Tree reviews in Fredericksburg, Virginia

Phenomenal job by Top Notch today on a large tree in my front yard. You would never even know there was a tree there before! They were timely, efficient and professional. I will definitely be using this company in the future. Thank you!

Chad and his crew truly are top notch! As a fairly new home owner of a property with many mature trees and an avid tree lover, I have interviewed many tree removal companies to ensure that we are hiring the right company to perform work on our property. Chad came out to our house the day after I contacted him to provide us with an estimate to remove a tree that was dropping limbs close to our home. Not only did Chad provide us with a fair estimate, but he went above and beyond and assisted us with trying to get our new chainsaw working and provided us with recommendations for a different product and dealer. Top Notch is a fair and honest company servicing the local community and exceeding expectations. Chad’s crew was exemplarily. One request the day that the crew came out was that we try to preserve the two tiny rose of sharons that were incredibly close to the tree that they were cutting down. It was a tall order since the trees were feet away from the 100 year old maple
that they were taking down, but they were cognizant of my request and those trees are still standing after the tree removal. Chad and his crew are professionalism, friendly, and considerate. Before he left our house, I asked for his advice about our wooded property (we have many, many trees) and he provided us with great advice and again another fair estimate. I am thankful to have found a local company providing fair estimates with great customer service that I feel comfortable performing work on our property.

Chad and his team came out after the tornado-like storm that came through part of Fredericksburg recently. We still had the top of a tree blocking part of our driveway that we just didn't have time to take care of and we just don't have the equipment to haul away.
They cleaned that up, trimmed several large hanging limbs (from some very tall oaks), and cleaned up all the debris from the yard.
Chad's team wears a uniform and protective gear, something you don't always see. We were completely confident that our property was safe and secure. It's obvious he takes care of his team and his equipment.
Highly recommend!!

I couldn’t have been more pleased with the results we received from Chad and his crew. Knowing they have the right equipment to ensure trees or branches can be removed without worrying about our house or garage was reassuring. Their cost was very reasonable and they did a great job cleaning up after themselves. I will definitely reach out to them the next time we need those services.

When looking for a tree service that is close to the house, you have to be careful.

I saw their work at a neighbor and decided to give them a shot. Absolutely not disappointed.

Thoroughly discussed our situation and what to do. Very professional and did a great job.

The guys knew what they were doing, very careful about what they did and cleaned up very well.

Highly recommended.

Chad Kearns and Top Notch Tree were amazing! They went above and beyond to assist us in a timely manner with amazing customer service.

The work they did exceeded our expectations! I would highly recommend their services to anyone needing tree work done!

Fast, friendly and affordable!

Had Top Notch back for a 3rd time to cut two ~50 foot trees. One was a cedar tree and the other was a holly. Thank you Top Notch Tree Service for your Top Notch, professional, timely, & courteous service. Chad and his crew arrived right on time and got right to work. There were power lines, cable lines, garages, stone benches, and shrubbery all in their way, and this was in a downtown Fredericksburg city lot which is only 37' wide. With no path to get the Cherry-Picker in the Top Notch crew had to climb both trees and by using rope lower each limb and trunk. Quite spectacular work to watch and behold. I highly recommend Top Notch. For sure everyone should at a minimum get an estimate from them before choosing a tree service.

Had Top Notch back to cut another tree that was growing over the house. All Top Notch was excellent to work with and they did great work. They were prompt in returning my call, prompt with the free estimate, and prompt with scheduling me. I had an ~40 foot tree removed that hung over my house and the stump ground. They expertly cut the tree down and kept all branches away from the house. They cleaned up the yards and even took a leaf blower to the roof and porches to ensure everything was cleaned. Then they raked the yard and left it looking great. Hire them!!

All Top Notch Tree Services returned my calls in a timely manner. Came to the house to give 2 estimates because I changed my mind on which trees to cut. Chad is the owner & he is very personable and professional. The are BBB rated with insurance. We live downtown in the city of Fredericksburg where all the houses are tight (35' width backyards). We had 6 trees to cut any where from 30' to 70' all within 3'-5' of a house or garage where many of the larger branches were hanging over the structures. They took all 6 trees down without the slightest scratch or mark on either of the houses or garage. They did a great job & I would highly recommend them to anybody for a small or big job. Once done they cleaned up everything

Top Notch Tree service did a wonderful job removing several big trees and grinding the stumps and roots. They also did a good job with clean up. Chad (the owner) was easy to work with. His workers were courteous and efficient. I would highly recommend this company.

We had a very large tree removed and the stump ground after. We were nervous about it due to how close it was to our house but Chad's team was extremely impressive with their level of skill and the care they took removing the tree. We will be recommend Top Notch to anyone that asks and will definitely have them back to do some trimming for us in the fall. I really can't say enough good things about our experience with them.

Highly recommend this service for your tree removal needs! They are prompt, professional, and very well priced! Chad is a pleasure to work with as his courtesy and positive attitude helped instill my confidence that I made the right choice going with them.

Chad and his crew were here today to do a job that is not your usual request. It was wonderful. They did it in 1/2 a day. Indeed, they are “Top Notch”. This is the second job they have done for us.
They are so polite and appreciate your kindness. Good job, good price and fine company. Will have them back after the holidays.
Than you.

Chad and his crew are amazing! I had seven trees removed in close proximity to my shop and didn't have any worries. They are insured for both liability and workers compensation. Not a lot of other contractors have that! Give them a call, very good people!

Update four years later:
I had Chad and his crew out to remove a few more trees. Excellent service yet again! Fair pricing and quick to get the work done! They cleaned up so well you couldn't tell they were here... except for the two missing trees!

Five stars for the second time!

Update June 2025:

I asked Chad and his crew to come out and take out a very difficult tree that had died over the winter. These guys have skill! Did exactly what was contracted and cleaned up very well!

I never review but they earned it. All Top Notch Tree Services came to my rescued. Had a door knocker came at first and did the third of the agree bid. I called All Top Notch tree service to come and clean up the mess. Chad came two hours after my called for an estimated. Schedule for the next day depending on the weather. The following day had rain call for the whole day. So I was kinda down thinking I have to wait. All Top Notch showed up early and got everything done within two hours. The price was great, the service was professional, speedy but safely. I already have them bid forth next project. Most likely my only go to forward.

I had Top Notch Tree Service remove 1 tree and part of a second tree in my backyard. My backyard is fenced in with neighbors on both sides also with fences, so it is a tight space. Chad was very responsive and went over what would be done. Everything was done very professionally and they left the space very clean (they picked up all the debris, they even removed some branches I had piled from trimming a different tree!) I would recommend Top Notch if you are looking to have a tree removed.

Professional tree cutting service. They were prompt and communicative throughout the job. We had 3 large trees removed and a stump grinded. They removed all the excess wood and raked out the stump area to make it level. We will definitely use them again in the future!

Top Notch lives up to their name. Their response was very quick and they were just as quick to get the tree off of my house. They were the first to respond of the 3 companies I contacted. They were efficient, professional and cleaned up all the debris. Chad, the owner, is just a supper guy to work with!

Chad and his crew were absolutely the best. He came to the house, gave us a very reasonable estimate to remove trees and then, no muss, no fuss, did the job promptly and cleaned up. Really couldn't have asked for better service.
On another note, he did a second job for us; replacing two - 3 foot by 20 feet drain pipes under a section of the driveway. He cut out the section of driveway over the pipes and replaced them with new pipes and then restored the driveway so that it was driveable while waiting for the surface to be replaced by another company. Outstanding job at a very fair price and a wonderful crew to work with.

The name of the business says it ALL! The service was absolutely top notch! Chad and his crew were professional, courteous and knew what they were doing. They listened to exactly what I wanted to have done and then, at the end of their work, confirmed I was completely satisfied. The price for their service was fair and reasonable - no attempt to stab the customer. I would not hesitate to use them again and I highly recommend their service! My crepe myrtle is happy too!

From initial contact to job completion, Chad was wonderful. No one wants to pay to have a tree removed, but Chad made the entire process pleasant. Considering the amount of time the technicians spent at our house working and the equipment used, Top Notch pricing is very reasonable. The technicians arrived right on time and continued working until the job was done. We had a large tree removed that was very close to our home. The skill of the techs was amazing. I have a small magnolia in the middle of the yard and nothing touched it. Once they were gone, that had done such an amazing job cleaning up, you couldn't tell they had even been there all day! I would recommend Top Notch without hesitation to anyone I know.

The company name says it all. They are top notch! They cut down a huge tree for us and definitely have the crew and equipment to do the job! Very pleased with the job, the crew and the clean up. Definitely would recommend them and will use them again if needed. Great price for the project!

Called these guys to save my house from a tree and they didn’t disappoint. Went above and beyond to ensure the tree was removed and properly disposed of. Very friendly and very efficient company. Highly recommended
