We had a good size roof leak and they were super responsive, got people out that day to diagnose and were at our home doing repairs the next day! Richard helped us deal with our home warranty multiple times when they were giving us pushback and we will definitely be using them in the future for any repairs or renovations.

Best experience ever with a contractor. We have had some doozies in the past. They were in and out with a job well done. Thank you Kevin & Brandon for being so professional.

The guys at Virginia Coast Contracting Services are dependable, reliable and hardworking Zach was the technician that repaired my ceiling that caved in which required a good amount of Sheetrock, mud and paint which he prepped the surrounding areas to not get debris throughout the home and cleaned up very professional, very detailed oriented.

We hired Virginia Coast Contracting to repair a bathroom floor that had soft areas. Kevin came out on a Sunday and went into the crawl space to determine the source of the water leak and damage. He thoroughly explained the problem and proposed repairs. The crew completed the job in a single day and we found their work to be stellar. We are very happy with the workmanship and repairs and that we found a decent contractor at a reasonable cost.

    ***DO NOT BOOK THIS CONTRACTOR***

We had a fence with an automated driveway gate installed by Rick and his crew. Initially, the work appeared to be great. After about a month, we began to see all the corners that were cut in the process starting to be exposed.

Before getting into the project failures, the work started almost 2 weeks past the discussed start date and finished about a week late. It took a phone call saying that I was about to pull the plug on the project for them to actually get started. Communication did not exist unless you made multiple attempts to reach out to see what’s going on after they didn’t even bother to show up on certain days.

The guide tracks they installed on our driveway for the automated gate were not installed properly. After a month of use, the method of securing them down to the pavement came loose. It took several phone calls to get someone to show up weeks later to address the issue. Instead of performing a permanent fix, they decided to spend as little as they could to alleviate the problem. The same thing happened about a month later, and we still have loose guide tracks, to this day, that the gate struggles to operate with. They don’t want to spend the money or time to fix their own design flaws.

Quality of the electrical work is very questionable. The main power line that they installed to operate our driveway gate was not placed in any sort of conduit subsurface. Instead, they took the easy route of burying the exposed line only 2” underground from the house to the gate motor. We found this out the hard way when landscapers accidentally hit and cut the wire doing some basic work in the area. We now have a non-functioning gate that could have all been avoided if they took the proper time and effort to place the wire in a conduit deeper underground.

To top it all off, we’ve been contacting Rick non-stop over the past 3 weeks to have these problems addressed. Each time he picks up, he reassures us that the problem will be solved in a timely manner. However, that time passes with nobody showing up, and we have to call again asking why. All we get is the same cycle over and over again…

    Call with problems
    Rick makes false promises
Nobody shows up to fix issue
    Call Rick again
Rick provides excuses and more false promises
    Repeat cycle again and again

Seriously, do NOT waste your time and sanity with this company. We’ve decided to bail on their “warranted” work for a year because it’s simply a false hope to bait you in. You can find somebody far more reliable and willing to communicate with you when you need them.

They did the most amazing job, removing popcorn ceiling. The mess was minimal . This is the second project that I have worked with them. I must say , Rahim was the project manager and made it easier. Definitely ready for the next project.

I had a window in my house that leaked since new. Attempted to fix it a few years back and solved 80% of the issue—finally called VCCS to figure out why it still leaked. Guys were awesome. Did an estimate and figured out that the dryer vent way above the window was likely not flashed properly, letting water run down and behind the window. They came and did the repair—it required less work and materials than they estimated, so they charged me less than I expected. They also stayed until 8pm to get it done. Zero leaks!

These guys are great! They inherited a terrible renovation experience and turned it around into the home we love today. Rick and Raheem were very responsive, and they were flexible with us and our timeline needs. I would use them again if we ever have the need for a big project!

I typically don't write negative reviews, but my experience with VA Coast was concerning enough that I feel obligated to share. I will stick to the facts.

I purchased a new home where the seller chose VA Coast to handle the agreed-upon repairs (PICRA). Before closing, VA Coast submitted an invoice claiming all work was complete. However, during the final walk-through—conducted by me, my realtor, and my home inspector—we found that many items on the invoice had not been touched. This nearly prevented the closing.

To their credit, they agreed to pay for a re-inspection, and funds were held in escrow until the work was confirmed. A week later on a Friday, the re-inspection revealed the repairs were still NOT done. I attempted to call VA Coast to resolve the miscommunication and get them paid, but the owner was defensive, spoke over me, and insisted the work was finished despite my photo evidence to the contrary. My realtor had a similar experience with them and told me later that the owner was defensive and spoke over them as well.

On Sunday, they returned to the property unannounced. While they did some work, they removed one of the exterior outlets that was on the PICRA—making the situation worse.

The final straw was the dishonesty. On Monday my realtor received photos from the seller's side purporting to show the electrical outlets were fixed. When I looked closely, I realized the photos were of different, functional outlets that were never part of the inspection report. They were trying to pass off functional outlets as the repaired ones!

At that point, given the failed inspections, misleading photos, and defensive nature I concluded that they were either incompetent, dishonest, or both. So, through my realtor I banned them from the property. The seller's agent hired a different contractor who fixed everything in 3 hours—work that VA Coast couldn't finish in 3 weeks.

VA Coast may do good work on the surface, but it's the unseen items; what lies beneath that are the problem. To improve and hopefully avoid future stories such as mine I suggest they:

Improve Communication: Work directly with homeowners and stop showing up unannounced.

Implement Quality Assurance: Verify work is actually done before sending invoices.

    ⭐☆☆☆☆ (1 Star)

I rarely leave negative reviews, but after two separate projects with Virginia Coast Contracting Services, I feel obligated to share my experience.

I hired this company to install an HVAC system at one of my properties in Norfolk. After installation, the system was not functioning properly. It was set up to operate only in A/C mode, which caused condensation during the winter months and resulted in water leaking through the ceiling. I now have to repair drywall due to the moisture damage. I also had to hire another HVAC company to install a heat pack so the system could operate correctly.

While they were working on that property, I hired them for a second HVAC installation at another property in Portsmouth. I paid the deposit on December 4th, and the project experienced repeated delays with numerous excuses over an extended period. Meanwhile, my tenant was without proper heat during freezing temperatures.

I made the final payment yesterday upon completion, and today the heat is not working. I now have to hire yet another company to diagnose and repair the system, resulting in additional unexpected expenses.

This has been a very costly and frustrating experience. Based on my experience with two separate projects, I cannot recommend this company.

I highly recommend working with these contractors, I had an upstairs bathroom with leaks that was completely gutted, they turned it into a beautiful new bathroom quickly with a great budget. Everything was done on time, done well, Charlie and Nancy were the contractors and I hope that you have the pleasure of working with them.

I am posting a review because I wanted them to come out again. I reached out and I just had another incredible experience working with Charlie and Nancy. They were out here immediately and the job is already done, the turn around was faster than I thought possible, and I always have a fantastic experience, I highly recommend these contractors.

At this point I have had painting and a full bathroom remodel done and I expect more projects to come in the future, I found these contractors by working with my realtor Lisa Hughes and I could not be happier!

I’ve had the pleasure of working with this contractor, and I can’t recommend them enough! From start to finish, their team is professional, courteous, and incredibly reliable. They always show up on time and communicate clearly throughout the process. The craftsmanship is top-notch, and they go above and beyond to take care of their customers. No job is too big or small for them, and their attention to detail is unmatched. Hands down the best contractor experience I’ve had—I'll definitely be working with them again in the future!

We are very pleased with our kitchen remodel. We removed a wall, moved plumbing and electrical, changed a window, changed doorways replaced flooring, cabinets, and countertops.

Dave Smith, the contractor, was very knowledgeable and confident. His pricing is fair and reasonable and he is easy to communicate with. He does great work. He does a little bit of everything, and if he doesn’t do it, he has capable folks who do.

We began working with Dave with a pretty good idea of what we wanted. His wife, Melisa, helped us finalize the design. They were patient with us as we changed our minds during the process.

The result is even better than I had dreamed. The only reason I didn’t rate a 5 is because the project took 3 months to complete when it was estimated to take 5 weeks. Maybe that’s the nature of the business. It was worth the wait, but it made planning ahead difficult.

A more accurate estimate or a shorter time frame to finish would have earned a 5 star. Everything else was perfect.

Absolutely one of the best contractors we've ever worked with be it for private homes or commercial work. Do yourself a favor and give him a call if you need anything done. Work is very reasonably priced and the work is QUALITY. He did a remodel for us and also a lot of fine carpentry work.

THE most responsive contractor we've ever dealt with hands down, even if he can't make it on a certain day, he actually lets you know asap which definitely can't be said for a lot of other contractors that have you waiting around for them to show up or answer you. He is pretty busy but that is without a doubt the nature of the industry. He's worth waiting an extra week or 2 for and he'll always let you know what's going on and communicate which makes all the difference. Cleans up after themselves also more than a lot we've worked with in the past. Can't recommend him more.

Highly recommend this family owned business. Excellent craftsmanship and customer service. We use them for all our electrical needs. Wish we found them sooner!

Family owned and ran, you will not find a better option for residential or commercial electrical service. Frank is the kind of professional you want to have on the job as he does everything by code and NEVER takes shortcuts.

Local Father & Sons company in Virginia Beach, Virginia. They do amazing work while paying very close attention to detail (will post pictures to follow). They also clean up very well at the end of each day. Absolutely wonderful to talk to and have around. I cannot recommend these guys enough. Such a great experience and will be hiring them again in the future.

An absolutely amazing father and son run electrical company! When I called them for my old house to rewire, they were quick to respond and scheduled me out for a quote.

When they came, we reviewed all of the electrical work that needed done and he wrote me up a scope and price for all the work to be done in and out.

I signed off on it and we got a final install date for a few weeks after signing(The price was exceptionally competitive in the market for the stellar quality work they ended out doing.) They came and we're in and out of my home quick and easy.

Once again, I could not recommend FAT Electric enough for all your residential or even commercial needs!

Frank always arrived at our appointment times for the estimate as well as the work itself. He installed a new electrical panel box and explained the entire process, pulled the proper permits and did the work in a timely and professional manner. Will definitely call him again in the future for electrical jobs. Highly recommend!
