I wish I could remember my service techs name. He was professional, prompt and clean. I will use them again!
-
So far they have been fabulous And very thorough.
-
We would love to rate them however they have not shown up for the 2 appointments we've had with them to access the problem!

One of their workers parked in front of my storage unit. I called their company told them their truck number and the name on the side of the door. Waited 20 mins. Finally had to have the assistant manager go find him, where ever he was and tell him her self. Which took ever longer. UMS should have called their technician. Maybe next time he could have parked not in front of people's units

Even though I did get over 11 years from my water heater, I don't know how long it was leaking from the pipe hooked into the top of the tank. I found out that Universal Mechanical did not install to code. They mixed galvenized with copper piping. This sets up a magnetic charge and the minerals corrode the pipes. I can see those minerals by the leaking. This was either done out of ignorance, to save money, or because the installer did not have the proper materials. My advice is do not use Universal Mechanical!

Words cannot express how happy I am with Universal Mechanical!
After 3 frustrating visits from the company that installed my A/C unit, I was referred to Universal Mechanical. They found the leak, replaced my coil and recharged the unit. All is working beautifully. -
Universal Mechanical is a quality, well established organization with first class employees and mechanics. As a commercial property owner and building manager, I would definitely say that this company should be on your vendor list, if they are not there already.
UNIVERSAL MECHANICAL has a great team of technicians and the Company is organizationally staffed to be proactive, responsive and supportive to their clients' HVAC and other mechanical needs.
On one occasion Kurt, one of Universal's long term and trusted mechanics, was able to instruct me over the phone to find and isolate a pressure switch that had tripped.
This allowed me to be able to restart the building's AC system. This not only saved time and expense but it also kept the building cool with little down time or interuption, saving the building from having tenants that otherwise would have been too warm.
Universal's crews and staff are all very professional and they are internally supported to be able to provide both timely and excellent service at reasonable rates. -
We had UMS come out on an Angie's list deal to service our furnace as it was not heating from time to time. Unfortunately it failed once again during the cold front in November this year, They were able to get a technician out the next day. The service technician spent a fee hours trying to diagnose the issue but without it reoccurring he was stumped. The very next day he returned and had remember an issue with another customer where there circuit board failed on just one section which controls the temperature of the blower. Sure enough that part of the board was burnt. He was proactive an already and the part with him we have been up and running ever since.

They are always available for questions or repairs. I highly recommend their service to anyone who needs pool service, rescue or repairs. Great work - plan to use them again.

I have used them to service my furnace and heat pump over the past ten years but recently I have seen a decline in the level of service and expertise of their technicians. My last experience will be my last. I called them for the an assessment for my non-working heat pump. The callout charge was expensive but I figured they knew what they were doing. The tech came out, he was friendly and professional, assessed the situation, and explained what was wrong. He then subsequently charged me double to vacuum my heat pump out, not clean the heat pump or coils, just spend a few mins with a vacuum. I ended up calling the office and they agreed to reduce the charge by half but i wasn't told their would be a charge for 'vacuuming' or advised that I would be charged anything over the callout fee in the first place. Regardless, I went ahead a got a quote for the repair, it was over a $1k more than the next quote, Sadly, i won't be calling them again. If you're looking for an honest assessment, at a reasonable price, I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere.

I have worked with Universal on 3 properties for 2 years. They have made between $10K-$15K from us, but I will never work with them again and I cannot recommend them. As a fairly longtime customer, I believe my perspective is worth consideration.
Brief:
Cons:
Extremely poor administration and execution of scheduling/dispatch. Poor customer service attitude. Poor communication within the business between technicians and dispatch. Exceedingly poor communication with direct customers. Absolutely no respect for customers’ time. Repeated no-shows with no apologies or taking responsibility. There is a failure to provide a proposal/quote after numerous inquiries between technician and administration over the phone. They also tack on costs after original proposals have already been sent. Universal Mechanical likely leans on the fact that heat and AC are essential and they would never run out of customers. The service manager is also entirely absent of customer resolution to loyal customers.
Pros: At least one great technician (Matty). Prices are more fair than other companies. Their relative fair pricing is not worth their painfully reluctant customer service on the phone and absent technicians.
Specific:
-Lanora is the most reluctant person I have ever worked with in customer service or among contractors, which is a shame because she handles the scheduling and dispatch. Scheduling and dispatch is the entire execution of the business from the customer perspective. She refuses to follow-up with appointments and blames the technicians for not communicating their pending no-shows.
- The quote to one of our repairs failed to be provided by the technician and when I called Lanora, she simply didn’t want to transfer me to someone else on the phone who could help. I suppose Jason handles the proposals and I was sent the information only after I decided to rely on their business operator. The proposal was not itemized for hours, parts, and diagnostic fee, and so I requested for this information. I never received an updated, itemized copy from him. The following week, Paula sends me the invoice for payment that has an additional $189 diagnostic fee, additionally taxed. Failing to provide quotes repeatedly and then changing the amount after the first proposal is finally sent, is highly unethical. They still have refused to itemized the cost of parts or hours despite my insistence in 3 separate emails.
***Alternative Recommendation:
Those interested, consider 2 Sons for HVAC services. They make appointments with you, dispatch service calls you the same appointment day within 1-2 hours to update you on the status of your pending appointment, and technicians do a second phone call within 30 minutes of arrival. Customer service on the phone is pleasant, helpful, and are pro-active with their job. I have worked with them for plumbing and electric. Phenomenal technicians and would have used them this time, except I didn’t know their services included HVAC. I will never work with Universal again. -
Warning this company recently ran up their diagnosis price with us never communicating what was going on or how much it would cost just to diagnosis. They ran up a $1578 in diagnostic without any word on a 10 year old unit that is hard to get parts for They charged us $320 just to call the manufactures support line to help finish figuring out the issue.

I requested HVAC installation for a rental property. The process was smooth, from estimate to final inspection. Tenants are happy, and I know it’ll cut energy costs long term.
