Summary

Anibal built a walkway for us. When he finished it, the walkway was not level, either right to left or front to back. Each stepping stone was out of level different from the one before. When we asked Anibal to resolve the problems, he responded very unprofessionally. In the end, he didn't stand behind his work. So I had to tear down the walkway and rebuild it myself.

Details:

We used JVM construction to build a walkway with crushed rocks and stepping stones alongside our house. When they were done, my wife went outside with our toddler and took a quick look. She noticed the stones didn't look quite right. She asked them to adjust them a bit. After changing them, she still wasn't convinced, but she trusted that the company would stand behind their work and pay them. Unfortunately, when I got home and took a look, I was very disappointed. The walkway was not level from front to back or right to left. The middle part of the walkway was significantly above level. None of the stepping stones was level. You could see each stone tilted slightly differently. We had asked for a brick border along the right side. The line of bricks was visibly wavey. The other brick border at the gate was U-shaped, obviously not level.

I called Anibal and asked that he come out to review the work. When I mentioned that you could see the problems clearly when running a plumb line, he admitted that he hadn't used a line guide. I offered to work with him and help him fix it on a weekend. Initially, he said he would try to come out the weekend after the next. During that time, I started the teardown. As I found more problems, I sent photos to Anibal. That's when he began giving us excuses like my wife and I had asked him to level the pathway at different points or that we had asked for the border to be L-shaped. None of that was the problem. The problem was that he hadn't dug the pathway deep enough and hadn't leveled it. Every excuse followed that same pattern. We explained several times with photos, and he just refused to accept that the work was wrong. His responses were very unprofessional. Things like 'I am really busy right now. I can't lose a day coming to help you fix it, especially on a job where I didn't make a good profit'. He bid on the job. He set the price, which was in line with other bids that we got. In the end, we just cut our losses and are going to fix it ourselves.

We are just really disappointed. Anibal did our yard maintenance for a short period and did just fine. We took a risk with him for this other job. We don't wish him ill. We believe he lacks experience in these types of jobs, and we hope he gains that experience. However, we don't want other people to have the same experience we did.

We hire JVM company to do our yard and to put new grass on my backyard, and my wife and I was extremely happy with his work, my yard looks amazing, and We would definitely hire his company for the futures projects at my house, also him and his coworkers are very kind and hard workers

They came and cleaned up our yard after it had become unmanageable for us over the fall and winter. Got rid of all the debris, took care of our weeds, mowed the grass and even pulled out a rhododendron that I have been wanting to get rid of for some time.
