About a year and a half ago, we had the pleasure of working with Rock Solid Landscapes to transform our backyard, and we couldn't be more satisfied with the results. Our yard was previously an eyesore, plagued with awkward sloping and significant drainage issues. The team at Rock Solid Landscapes tackled these challenges head-on, providing effective solutions that have truly enhanced our outdoor space.

A special shout-out to Jason for his excellent design work. His vision and expertise were instrumental in creating a beautiful and functional backyard that we enjoy every day.

One of the standout aspects of their service was their attention to detail and communication. They not only addressed our drainage problems but also took the time to work with our neighbors to ensure everyone understood the improvements being made. We've used Rock Solid for three projects and had excellent results on all three: a complicated terraced wall and alleyway fence; a fence extension; and a revamp of our front yard, which included installation of an irrigation system. They are easy to work with and their crews are very skilled. Their designs are beautiful and practical. Everything was built to spec. We plan to do more work with them.

Rock Solid redesigned out back patio with stone pavers and steps. We enjoyed the design process and the patio turned out exactly as we hoped. The crew was extremely efficient, and great to work with.

Jason Cole and his team delivered exceptional landscape design/installation services from start to finish. After sitting on our landscape architect's designs for 3 years while completing other home projects, we reached out to several local companies when we were finally ready to move forward. Jason stood out immediately; he truly understood our vision and worked collaboratively with us to bring the design to life within our budget.
What impressed us most was Jason's ability to help us navigate important design tradeoffs without compromising the overall aesthetic we were aiming for. His team was professional, efficient, and always punctual. Jason himself was incredibly responsive to our questions and requests, often coming to our property to walk through details in person rather than trying to resolve things over the phone/email.
The quality of workmanship was outstanding, and the team maintained a friendly, professional attitude throughout the entire project. One piece of advice: don't wait until summer to start your project like so many people do; getting started earlier in the year means reaping the benefits of better availability and timing for your installation.
The results speak for themselves. We regularly have neighbors stopping us to compliment the work (think - full gut and remodel but for the outside!) and ask who did it. It's become a real showpiece in our neighborhood.
We were so pleased with the results that we've also engaged their maintenance services to ensure our beautiful new garden continues to thrive.

Could not have had a better experience modifying an existing patio in our backyard. An initial visit was promptly arranged and Wade and Jason came on site to discuss the project. They were very adaptive in using some stone that we already had. A work date was set up in a reasonable time. The actual workers were hard working and pleasant, completing the project in only two days. The cost was very reasonable.

We used rock solid to completely redo our builder grade landscape. Our yard went from fine but not usable or functional to our family to a beautiful place we all want to spend our time! Our yard had two massive water reservoirs per city ordinances and they did such a great job making them safer for our family and less of an eyesore. Our new fence and all the lighting brought it all to the next level!

We worked with Jason L. who was outstanding and naturally easy to work with as we discuss design ideas. His communication and updates are superior and the team’s quality of work is unmatched!! We had custom welded flower beds, retaining system hardware installed in the back. We needed a reliable company and structural design, we got all of that plus design appeal and assurance of a stunning, long-lasting upgrade to our home. The experience, sound structure and final product is worth the price and fair in price. Excited to update with spring photos and blooming floral arrangements.

From start to finish, Rock Solid delivered exceptional service and a great finished product. We engaged Rock Solid to redesign our backyard patio and front entryway including retaining walls, fencing and lighting. It was a large and complex project that was expertly designed and managed by Gregory. When inevitable issues arose, our concerns were listened to and promptly addressed and often Rock Solid came up with better solutions than we had imagined. Considering the scope and complexity, this construction project was easy and I can't say that about any other of similar size and scope. Throughout the process the crew never left messes; they worked well together; and they genuinely seemed to take pride in their work. In the end, we got the beautiful backyard oasis and attractive entry way we wanted delivered on time and within our overall budget.

We recently worked with Rock Solid to do a complete backyard renovation in the Bryant neighborhood in. They took care of EVERYTHING - from our initial consultation to the subsequent landscape design, build and now bi-weekly maintenance! We had the pleasure of working with Gregory who was always available for anything we needed during design and build process. The team who did the work was fabulous! They respected our wishes and worked around our established plants which we wanted to maintain. Everything was right on schedule, and the few changes that came up as work progressed were always cleared with us so we could stay within the budget and estimate they shared. Now we are working with the maintenance crew managed by JD and Antonio who do a fabulous job keeping our yard looking good and our plants happy! We would recommend having them look at your project for sure! We will stick with them for our front yard renovation in a few years.

We worked with Rock Solid on our backyard renovation a few years ago. From design to demo to completion, we could not have been happier. Transparent and reasonable pricing, expedient work, and high quality craftsmanship. We continue to work with them for monthly maintenance, mowing, etc. A truly “Rock Solid” team!

Tristan is a personable professional who listens, who asks questions, and who can translate a vision, however hazy, into a beautiful well-thought design.

Tristan and his crew were a pleasure to work with. Tristan had a clear and creative vision for my landscape project. I was very impressed with his professionalism and would definitely recommend him to anyone.

We just had Tristan come out for a consultation and we are extremely disappointed and underwhelmed.

Tristan does not respect our time:
1. First he came 15 minutes late - not a huge deal I guess but was a bad first impression especially when we let him pick when he wanted to come and made our schedule work for him.

2. Before he came out, me and my husband took out at least 3 hours of our busy lives to fill out a lengthy questionnaire to the best of our ability, providing pictures, and images of our yard clearly explaining our issues and the slope issues. Via email he told us that it is possible to do what we want within our budget and agreed to come out. Then when he did come out he tells us that he doesn't want to do the main thing we wanted to hire him for.

3. When he was here, he wasted both me and my husband's time discussing things that he didn't want to do and provided poorer insight than free consultations I got from other landscapers. It honestly felt that he was too lazy and did not want to take on any work if it wasn't easy. What we wanted was not weird; we just wanted tile concrete but apparently our side yard was not big enough so he wouldn't do it. Keep in mind that my husband provided him a detailed drawing with how big our side yard is so if he spent anytime looking at it then he could have saved both of us money and time and just said sorry I can't do it.

Not knowledgeable:
1. He said he would only take on fixing a drainage issue (which I would only trust a professional drainage person do anyways again based on his lack of knowledge when I asked him questions) and planting. I was extremely underwhelmed by his knowledge of plants, he could only provide two possible solutions off top of his head when a previous person provided me with at least 4 different ones off top of his head on a free consult.

2. On top of that he did not seem to understand the difference between pavers and concrete tiles. It may be that I am comparing him to the knowledge I received from a civil engineer and that's not fair but for $150 an hour from Tristan, I expected someone to be a wealth of knowledge and expertise. It was not clear at all from our discussion that he was going to be able to provide this sort of knowledge and expertise. Also whenever asking him about how much something would cost or if it's feasible, he kept saying 'I have no idea' and that he would have to ask some other contractors if they do this... Again, shows poor knowledge. And sorry what was the point of the long questionnaire we filled out again? We already told you that we wanted to build a retaining wall so why did you not say that you did not want to do this or that it wasn't within our budget instead of coming out to take our money then tell us that!!

He is not efficient, dishonest and had no creative solutions:
The thing that really drove me nuts was that he was making a design drawing at $150 per hour for just planting shrubs and plants!! You got to be kidding me; at that point, I just felt that he was trying to suck money out of us. I was willing to pay a lot of money to make our backyard beautiful but it seems like Tristan is not very good at finding creative solutions or providing good thoughtful discussion on topics regarding landscaping. I understand if he has to design and draw for a true landscape design like we wanted but when you are just going to plant a few things then I believe this is a true waste of money. I had to tell him frankly that we are on a budget and it makes no sense to pay someone that much to draw shrubs! I had to tell him no thanks but still paid him for the $300 consult though I feel that he did not deserve it whatsoever. I feel conned. Please don't make the same mistake I did and I am also questioning the validity of all these previous reviews or may be these people just didn't do ample research for other more competitive and more informative landscapers.

I highly recommend Solstice Landscape Design. Tristan created a beautiful design for our yard. We wanted to do the work ourselves, and he was very patient with us on how slow we were getting things done, and very helpful and knowledgeable when we had questions or concerns.

We hired Solstice Landscape Design to design and install a pave walkway around the side of our house with landscaping. Tristan carefully listened to us and came back with a design that far exceeded all our expectations. The paver walkway was simple but thoughtfully designed to beautifully curve around our home and tie seamlessly into our already exciting paver porch. The landscaping was simple, colorful, and all native to the PNW. Tristan is an artist and a pleasure to work with.

I chose Tristan and Solstice based on his design methodology described on his site. We discussed a design that is respectful of the house's history as an older Seattle home, but forward-thinking in a more spiritual, modern design. I'm pleased to say that he took my ideas and incorporated his own, and I'm very happy with the result.

I came to Tristan with a big empty space and a pretty uncommon set of requirements. I am most thankful that he was able to combine all of those in to a stunning and expressive design that absolutely got me what I was looking for. I had a smallish budget but I was willing to do the grunt work, Tristan made an easy to follow guide for me. What resulted was almost 2000 square feet of a Hardy and drought tolerant garden that has the whole neighborhood talking. Thanks Tristan!
