General Contractor reviews in Vancouver, Washington

Daniel and his team worked on two basement apartments, aka an ADU.first off, the work is high quality craftsmanship! My apartments are so beautiful!
In addition, he dealt with all of the permits during a slow time in Portland. The work was efficient once permits were received. He also dealt with all of the permits required for prior work that was done incorrectly. This was a challenge. He also dealt with all aspects of electrical and hvac and water with separate meters.
Both apartments look brand new even though the homes are 100 years old and the work was done without any issues. You will be more than satisfied with your final product!
When there was an issue the first couple of months after the project was complete, he had his subcontractor fix the issue. He found additional supplies and came to a fair agreement with me.
He communicates daily, the work is solid and the price is very reasonable. He wants to ensure you are happy with the finished product.
The only improvements were the amount of time, although this appeared to be due primarily to PDX slow permit processing and mediating the final issues directly after the project was complete.
I appreciated his honesty and willing to talk through any issue that arises over the course or 9 months. I would highly recommend he and his crew! This is my 4th remodel and I would go with Advanced Construction if I were to do another project! -
We found Dan through recommendations because we specifically needed a contractor experienced with VA-related projects. Our goal was to make our home accessible — a downstairs bathroom, porch, and office made to bedroom— so my husband, a veteran living with ALS, could safely move around and maintain some independence.
We first contacted Dan at the end of 2024, and demolition began in early 2025. From that point on, the project became an ongoing and exhausting headache. Communication was consistently poor and at times completely nonexistent. Messages were frequently ignored for days or weeks, and we were often left without updates, timelines, or follow-through.
The bathroom was finally completed around June 2025, and the porch was not finished until September 2025, despite repeated assurances that the work would be completed much sooner. Throughout this time, it was clear — based on what we could see— that he and his company were working on multiple other projects simultaneously, while ours was repeatedly delayed.
We paid out of pocket to ensure this work could move forward in a timely manner, yet we were still treated as if our project was not a priority. That lack of urgency and care felt especially disrespectful given the circumstances: this was not a cosmetic remodel, but essential accessibility work for a disabled veteran living with a progressive, terminal illness.
What made this experience most disappointing was not just the delays, but the lack of accountability, transparency, and basic communication. When you are working with families in situations like ours, professionalism and respect are not optional.
Unfortunately, based on our experience, we cannot recommend Dan or Advanced Construction LLC to anyone needing reliable, compassionate, and communicative work — especially for accessibility projects where timelines and trust truly matter. -
We are completing an ADU build with Advanced Construction and couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. We have done our share of DYI remodels and were not sure what to expect from a completely new build but the experience was awesome and they handled everything! Dan has been incredible to work with, understood our vision perfectly and every detail has been better than imagined. All the subcontractors he works with have been very nice and worked quickly but also with great craftsmanship. Dan was able to work around our busy schedule and was super responsive to our questions and calls along the process. We highly recommend them to anyone!

Professional from start to finish. Jeremy spent extra time with us during our consultation visit and answered all of our questions. He designed features for our backyard on the spot and gave us different options to choose from. Quality of the work they performed is excellent. We couldn’t be happier with our new backyard.

We had a few company's come out to look at our project and Rod at Vulcan Design was amazing and got our approval almost immediately. After the design was completed they gave us a start date and the work began. 1-1/2 weeks later it was done and it is beautiful. I can honestly say that I have never seen a crew that has been so detail oriented as they were. Tony the project manager answered all phone calls promptly and took care of any and all concerns we had during the process. Standing ovation for Vulcan Design. Thank you.

We had a paver patio installed by them about a year ago. They were more expensive than most, but supposedly had superior quality work and a lifetime warranty. A little while ago we noticed some sinking and cracked pavers and called them to schedule some warranty work. Over the past three months, I have called them no less than 15 times and left messages with the receptionist. I have yet to even receive a call back. At this point I am beyond disappointed.
UPDATE: Shortly after my initial review I was contacted by someone to schedule a time to come do the repair work. Finally, all of the repairs have now been completed. It ended up taking about nine months from my initial call about the warranty work until it was completed, but I do have to give the company credit for ultimately standing by their work and honoring the warranty. I've updated my rating from one to three stars. I give the quality of the work five stars, but it unfortunately took a lot of time and effort on my part to get there. -
Vulcan Design did an amazing job for us. We had a pathway with large boulders that was difficult to walk on and a safety hazard. They designed a walkway with pavers and steps that is a 100% improvement. Our back yard was not accessible for large machinery so Valentine broke up the boulders by hand with a sledge hammer and carried the pieces out. He is a master at cutting and fitting pavers together so that the pathway followed the previous curves around trees, etc. Then, Claude made a beautiful, extremely sturdy bridge over our water feature. He is a perfectionist who clearly is very committed to creating something that will last forever. I definitely recommend Vulcan Design for any project you might have. Scott and Eric are great project managers as well.

We had a wonderful experience working with the Vulcan team — specifically Kevin, Tyler, and Israel. From developing the design for the project, to setting expectations for the timeline, to the execution. Everything went smoothly and worked in unison. Tyler was hands on and Israel deftly and professionally led the talented crew. Thanks, team Vulcan!

Stuart "Stu" Mosier our design consultant was great. He really cares about his customers and their experience. Great company. We are really enjoying our new patio and gas fire pit.

Our new patio is AWESOME!!!
Jamie and Eric really delivered on our new paver patio.
A design that Jamie & Eric came with my wife Ellie’s vision which included a fire pit and seating wall.
Perfect, we have had so many compliments with pictures we’ve taken & posted.
Thanks Vulcan Design, you exceeded our expectations.

I used Vulcan Construction for a complete backyard project. New deck, patio with pavers, fire pit and turf. I was pleased with their services from beginning to end. From the first meeting and planning I knew what to expect and when. Communication was clear the entire time and I always knew who was in charge of which portion of my project. I will definitely use Vulcan again in the future.

Vulcan Design did an excellent job from start to finish.
Paver Patio, Covered attached outdoor living space.
- Took time to help design a solution that met our needs - balancing cost and quality.
- Professional project management in coordinating the timing of multiple stages and construction skills despite challenges of winter weather.
- Able to adapt to change requests that arose during the project.
- Left the site clean upon project completion.
- Overall very satisfied with the finished product. -
These guys are great! They were very helpful with ideas, concepts, and receptive to collaboration when questions or issues arose. I did experience several delays, some were expected as I was told in advance, for others I was not (but Eric also Audrey just had a baby, so some latitude is given). But when I was picky about certain features and requested changes, they did so with enthusiasm. When we realized the patio roof was constructed so high that rain easily blew in under it, Eric decided that install a gutter at no cost me just to be sure my new space was truly usable year-round. That was a gift I appreciate greatly. I've done many remodels and renovations for my home(s) and rentals... Issues will always arise in construction. What counts is how the contractor responds. These guys are PRO!

Excellent job and completed within promised time frame (they actually were able to work me in a week earlier than initially planned). Mine was a small job (replacing leaning pillars with new ones plus some chimney work) but of the 5 estimates I sought out, Vulcan’s was the most logical and professional.
There had been some confusion about the size of the new pillars, and Vulcan righted the situation agreeably and promptly.
The work was extremely well organized and executed, starting with the initial designer consultant Luciene and followed with Scott, my project manager contact person. Both responded promptly to texts and phone calls.
Great company to work with! -
Consult was great.
Love the patio and deck.
Overall, a good experience.
For the most part, the workers were here as expected.
A few items we addressed:
If you want cedar handrail stained prior to application tell them. They were installed as raw wood.
Clear and defined final cocktail rail product. It didn’t look as expected. -
We were very happy with Vulcan's design and construction of our covered patio and retaining wall. They started earlier than anticipated and every worker was easy to communicate with. There was some confusion with which manager to deal with at times and the leftover supplies and Port-a-Potty hung around longer than necessary but really, that's just whining on the yacht when we got exactly what we wanted on time.
I will certainly think of Vulcan first for any future work. -
Vulcan design did a great job with our project. We had a fairly unique vision for our landscaping project, and a prior landscaper was not communicating well and was trying to talk us out of things that were important to us. We came across Vulcan at a home show and they were willing to give us a free consultation and 3D design. When we saw the design drawn by Lucienne, it was exactly what we had in mind. From design to completing of the project, they were very professional, they finished ahead of schedule, and also gave us advice/ideas to fine tune our vision. Overall, we are very pleased with Vulcan! Not only will we use them again in the future, we would recommend them, especially for projects involving the element of design.

I had Vulcan come out and bid two different outdoor Hardscape projects and while I am sure they do quality work, their price point is double what I ended up paying for the same quality with another vendor. I can’t recommend them due to their gouging prices. Shop around folks, you can do better.

Great experience working with Vulcan (patio and retaining wall). The crew did a great job and the owner followed-up as well. They take pride in their work, which I greatly appreciate. Everything was done on time and according to the schedule they laid out. Owner is honest and professional. Yes, they are busy, but they do a quality job at a reasonable price. I did make one extra phone call to follow-up on the job start date, but that's just standard for any work like this as far as I'm concerned. Great job! Thanks!

We had a great experience hiring Vulcan to completely redo our backyard with pavers, fire pit and turf. Jamie, one of the owners, spent hours with us; he listened and asked questions. We really had no idea what was possible and he came up with a design that exceeded our expectations. The whole team was great and responsive throughout the construction process.
We can't believe the transformation. We barely went into the backyard for years and now we use it daily. -
My Wife and I saw some work that Vulcan had done on a driveway several blocks away from us. We noted the number for Vulcan and gave them a call. Jeremy Spetman came round to do the initial consultation and to give us an estimate. After agreeing a start date the process was handled very professionally by the Vulcan team. They started work at the beginning of the year and it took them around 7 days to complete our driveway and patio area. The workman were very professional and made an excellent job. We are really pleased with the end result and would recommend Vulcan design to anyone looking for driveways or patios
