I recently hired South Alabama Electric to replace an attic fan in my home. When the representative came out to price the job, we specifically discussed the job would take approximately four hours and with parts and labor would cost just over $400. Based on prior one star reviews about their billing practices, I requested a quote. The quote was for $475 and was non specific. “Replace attic fan motor, blades and thermostat - $475”.
The employees arrived at my home at 7 AM and completed the job in 1.5 hours. I was shocked to see I was still billed $475, when the job did not take 4 hours. When I called to ask about it the representative was extremely condescending. I will be taking my electrical needs elsewhere from here on out. -
I had to get a brand new electric box on my house with new poll, they were quick to give us a reasonable quote and had the job done within one day of the quote. Very professional from receptionist, workers who came out to house, and supervisor who gave quote. Answered all our questions and concerns know matter how many I had woth alot of patience. I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a electrician that is honest, professional, and stands behind their work.

I was having some wiring issues while putting in a bathroom vent fan. They worked me into the schedule, came out to the house, and were done in about 30 minutes! They were very professional through the entire experience. I highly recommend this company for any electrical issues!

Called with a home emergency. My power was cut off by Alabama Power because of old faulty power box. Receptionist answered the phone then put me on hold. A male answered the phone and asked me to explain what happened. He told me that they were backed up for weeks and that they could not help me. He then stated that he didn't know who to even recommend to help me. Glad it wasn't his home without power. Will not use for any other contracting jobs. As they have stated, they are weeks behind.

I reached out to South Alabama Electric based on recommendations from the NextDoor app in my historic neighborhood that praised the care that they take in working with older homes. I trusted their reviews and I have no complaints with this at all. But be prepared for their billing practices which are unscrupulous at best. One of their representatives came to my home to give me an estimate on installing a wired doorbell, nothing complicated or custom, modern electronics and I had already acquired the necessary transformer needed. His estimate at that time was that it would be roughly 2 hours of labor at $98/hour. I was agreeable to that and scheduled the appointment to install for 7:30am a few days later. Two technicians came promptly at 7:30 and began the work, and I had helped them out by removing the baseboards and door facings for faster access to the wall. By 9am they had the wiring and doorbell installed just as estimated, but when they connected it my house filled with the smell of burning wires and the chime mechanism for the doorbell was toast. They spent the next half hour trying to figure out what went wrong, removing the transformer from the wall and backtracking all connections and wiring, but never ascertained what had caused it to burn up. Needless to say they were unable to complete the install and left. The doorbell came with a manufacturer warranty, so once they left I contacted them and discussed my options for replacement since it was new and under warranty. That call was made at 9:52am according to my call log, the technicians were already gone at this time. I was able to get a replacement sent and got back in touch with them to complete the install once it arrived. They came to do that this morning and were here for approximately one hour. The manufacturer told me the problem sounded like the chime got too much power from the low-voltage transformer so I made sure that the technicians tested the output voltage before they connected the doorbell this time (something I should not have had to ASK an electrician to do). The doorbell is now working, I have no issue with that part of the service.
When I received my invoice, I had been billed for 3 hours of labor on the initial call when their technicians were on site for exactly 2 hours. I called to discuss this and was put on the line with Alvin, who seemed to rather enjoy going into detail about how their billing "starts when the technician leaves the office at 7am" (I've never heard of a company billing the customer for drive time to a job site). I live on Dauphin Street, their office is on Holcombe Avenue, a distance of exactly 2.4 miles. If their billing is done according to his monologue, it took them 30 minutes to drive 2.4 miles to get to my home, for which I was then billed $48 according to their labor rate. I then asked if I was going to be billed additionally for the work they had to come back to complete since their technicians did not complete the job on their initial visit - he said yes, that I would receive an additional bill. They were here for an hour this morning, my guess is I will likely be billed for two or three hours according to "their math."
When I presented the detail of the time from my call log that I made the call to the manufacturer as my record of the time his technicians left, Alvin got defensive and insisted he "has GPS tracking in all his vans and knows exactly when his technicians leave a job site." He also denigrated the quality of the doorbell I had purchased, saying it "was probably made in China and they burn out all the time, most of them are worthless when they get here." (Thanks for calling my choice "worthless," Alvin - but please note it was actually made in the USA and cost $500, this was not a run-of-the-mill Home Depot purchase). My first bill was for $313. I don't know how much the second bill will be yet, but it's looking like this "simple job" I was quoted on the initial estimate is going to end up costing me more than the doorbell itself. -
Have had SAE here for 2 jobs of installation of a new fan and 5 light fixtures. Not only were they prompt and efficient, they were professional and most courteous. Scheduling was easy, no long delays, and again, most courteous. Highly recommended ‼️

I would like to say that we are VERY pleased and happy with South Alabama Electric. I called this morning over an electrical issue. They were at my residence this afternoon, and my problem is now resolved. The owner, Mr. Wilson was such a nice man to communicate with. He was understanding, and accommodating. The tech, Manny, was friendly, professional, and even though we are remodeling, and our house is like a trap of wood and tools, he made the best of our construction scene and fixed our problem with no complaints! He was also great about answering my questions. I will recommend this company to everyone! Thank you! The Zweeres family!

The breaker that control's my
a/c went out. Air conditioning company gave me a quote to fix. I called several electric companies for comparison. South Alabama quoted me the best rate. They replaced my breaker for more than $150 less than the original quote I got from the air conditioning company. Their staff was very professional, courteous and efficient! I would give them 10 stars if I could! -
We had a tree come down in the storm from hurricane Berry. They sent an electrician named Gary out who was a great guy and fixed our issues within 2 hours so Alabama power could turn us back on. Within 4 hours we had power again. Highly recommend this company

I use South Alabama Electric many times a year. They are always there for me when I need them. They have installed industrial wiring, lighting, junction boxes, electrical for my CNC machine upgrades, new 480V equipment installations, pulling wires for motors...I could go on for a long time. I have always been satisfied with the service and will always continue to give them the first opportunity to provide quotations for every job requiring electrical work. I appreciate your timeliness, responsiveness, professionalism, and quality work. Good job.

Gavin and Daniel arrived exactly on time and went to work right away. Within 25 minutes they had installed 2 outdoor lights and repaired 3 outlets. They were polite and professional. We were very pleased with their work.

Could not be happier with the service today. Bought a new oven and realized we needed new wiring. Two of the youngest, but most competent and polite young men showed up. They rewired everything, installed the oven, and cleaned up an took away their trash. Fast, efficient, and polite. Highly recommend this company.

I simply can't say enough good things about this company and Brian Wilson! If I could give them a 10+ I would. I ran into a problem with my generator and they went way, way out of their way to help me. I won't ever, ever go anywhere else! Thanks to you guys!

I trust no one else in my home for electrical work—South Alabama Electric is the best in the business! -
The men and women at South Alabama Electric are the best. From the initial call with the office, to the supervisor; right on down to the techs, simply wonderful. They arrived on time, completed my project, cleaned up after themselves, and were gone. Other than the fact that my project is complete I couldn’t even tell they were there. I recommend this company to everyone.

Thank you guys for a job well done. The Chandeliers are beautifully hung!!

Called someone out for an estimate on several items. An electrician came out and gave a verbal estimate of approximately $500. He said I would receive an email with a formal estimate within a day. Did not receive the estimate. I called the office, and they assured me they would follow up. I never received the estimate and ultimately had the work completed by Smith Electric, who (amazingly) seemed interested in doing the job. Two stars rather than one because the initial visit was positive and the electrician was knowledgeable and helpful.

Had some specialty work I needed done in Mobile as I was out of state and not able to do the work myself. I previously installed an IT router outdoors on top of a light pole that needed some servicing.
Having never used this company before, I chose them from previous reviews here and elsewhere. Once I contacted them they were prompt getting back to me as well as scheduling the job.
The tech David I worked with was great on-site and went above and beyond what a normal "electrician" would be expected to do. Was very happy with the work and the interaction with this company. -
Had a bad outside panel for too long. Had it quoted by Brian Wilson on Friday. Power was going in and out Monday and Tuesday. I called South Alabama Electric on Wednesday. Ms Lorena pulled strings for me and had the guys out there and Alabama power out there next day! Cant thank the whole company enough! I had great recommendations for them and they exceeded my expectations thanks a bunch y’all got me out of a pickle!
