HVAC reviews in Covina, California

OMG, McClay's is great. I can't say enough about their customer service.
My AC stopped working on a Friday night and too late to call anyone. The next morning, I started researching and calling a number of AC business's. They either didn't answer or took my info and never called back. A friend of mine recommended McClay's. I called McClay's and talked to Tava. She was so nice. She took my info, called back when she said she would, and fit me in. Archie got my AC working. I was so happy and thankful to be comfortable in my home again. -
McLays has been saving us from plumbing disasters big and small for decades..
as they say today: Not all heroes wear capes -
Bryan is great and very helpful and all my questions were answered. He was excellent and I would highly recommend McLay to anyone!

My family and I have been using m
McLay services for over 30 years. Great to work with a family-owned and operated company that has impeccable integrity and charges fair prices. Overselling and over billing for a job is against everything that they stand for. Quality work is impeccable. I just cannot recommend them more. The peace of mind gained as a homeowner by knowing that I don't have to shop around to get any job done. Great for plumbing as well as heating and air conditioning. Highly recommend! -
I was recently in need of a new tankless hot water heater. After soliciting estimates, I selected McLay Services and was very happy with the outcome. The entire organization was professional and helpful from start to finish. Chad came on site to review the necessary work and prepared a detailed estimate as well as patiently answering my numerous technical questions regarding the project. Nellie in the office was friendly and efficient in taking care of scheduling the initial on-site as well as the install date along with processing the necessary paperwork. Caesar with the assistance of Mark performed the installation of the unit; I was impressed with his attention to detail and dedication to doing the job right. He made an extra trip to the supply store to get the exact right gas fitting necessary rather than making do with the parts on hand that would've worked but not been as clean of an install. To top it all off, the cost was very reasonable. I definitely recommend you consider McLay Services for your next plumbing need.

Frustrating experience.
1. Confirmed and appointment 5-16-25 for a McClay Technician to come over and evaluate the AC unit.
2. McClay called and canceled the appointment, granted I took the day off from work but I understand things happen.
3. Rescheduled for the following day 5-17-25, and a McClay representative showed up and said the coils were leaking and would send a quote.
4. Saturday no quote sent.
5. Monday McClay called and stated they would send a quote and no quote sent.
6. Tuesday I called and they stated a quote would be sent, and still no quote sent.
7. Called another AC business Tuesday afternoon 5-20-25 and they came over and gave me a quote and ordered the new parts.
8. Emailed McClay 5-21-2025 to express my disappointment in their lack of service and told them we already hired another AC business.
9. McClay sends the quote after I emailed them.
Truly disappointed as three days were wasted and I could of called someone else on Saturday. I will not be using McClay for future AC Repairs. -
McLay has made plumbing repairs and installations for me over the years, and I've always been happy with their technicians' work. But during one of the hottest weeks of the year my air conditioner stopped cooling, even though the fan worked. They managed to work me in to their overflowing Saturday schedule. Bill came right on schedule and diagnosed the issue, had what he needed in his truck, and has the unit up and running! I continue to trust in McLay Services and recommend them!!

McLay is a trustworthy and skilled plumbing repair place. We have used them for 10+ years and there is nothing they cannot fix and fix correctly. The folks in the office are quick with scheduling and changes and are accurate as well. They have done the typical jobs like unclog drains or fix faucets, but they also have installed shower shelves, run the dryer vent properly, and change out the house pressure regulator. With a 70 year old house it is good to know who to call in our area and there is no guessing about if it will be done correctly and backed up of something is not right.

I had a rather large pile of lawn debris from several bushes I took down a few months ago. I had no idea how I was going to remove the eye sore from my yard without a truck and while on a rather tight budget. Mclay and the crew worked with me on the price and had it taken care of in such a short amount of time. AND they even raked and used a leaf blower to tidy up the area. I’m so pleased and so thankful to them!!

I found out my central Air Conditioner wasn’t working on a Friday at 4:pm in 95degree heat. After a little unsuccessful trouble shooting I called Mcclay at 4:30pm (on a Friday) because they had done my complete HVAC system replacement 11 years prior. To my surprise they said they could have a technician out the next morning. Their tech was at my house by 9:30am on a Saturday and by 10:am had the problem diagnosed as a faulty condenser. He didn’t have the part but rather than leaving me hanging until Monday he went to a supply shop and returned with the part and quickly completed the repair. Cost was very reasonable and I strongly recommend this company based on the job they did as well as the compete replacement of my HVAC system 11 years ago.

Response to the owner:
I would like to start off by saying that I tried to leave an honest review with only facts and to leave out any emotional responses. But if you are claiming that we were at fault I am not okay with it.
While you may think we did not clarify scope of work, I think you may have not asked your guys. After the initial quote of $1200 we were in contact with both your supervisor Chad and your technician Rick. During the initial quote we asked for a salt based water system quote. We sent them the EXACT unit over to both of them PRIOR to ordering the unit. The unit arrived and Rick was there to see where the tie in ports were. Everything was fine and we were assured on the pricing until Chad was called at the END of our session. We had the unit sitting there for 3 weeks before Chad called me back. Another 3 weeks for me to get a call back from you. If you verified with your guys in any way you would have heard this. They should still have the text messages with the unit model in their phone. I just want to say that Mcclay might have been a company for the little guys in the past but now with their big contracts they no longer feel that they need people like us. On my phone call with Archie, he in no way wanted to even work with me to mediate the pricing. He said with absolute certainty that Chad was right and did not even stop the conversation to verify. Since then I have called 3 other plumbers and not one of them said that this would be a two man job.
One final note to those looking at Mcclay, if you had ordered a unit based on the responses of a quote you received and they switched it on you last minute after having already agreed to start service, would you be mad? Would you feel like someone should have done something or at least said sorry? And to see a rebuttal without knowledge of the situation being posted. Would you be mad?

On June 30, a McClay technician quoted me $1,200 for a clean out. I asked what it would cost to do the clean out plus install a water softening system (if I purchased one from Home Depot), and he quoted $2,400 for both. After scoping my line, he said the clean out wasn’t necessary and could install the water system for $1,200–$1,400. That honesty made me want to work with McClay, so I purchased the system and sent the details to both the technician and his supervisor.
When the technician returned to plan the job, he spent about an hour walking me through the tie-in points and confirmed the original price range. He said he would write up the quote. That’s when things changed. After calling his supervisor, the same job was now quoted at $4,500.
I contacted the office three times before the supervisor, Chad, called back about a week and a half later. He explained that it was a two-man job at $175/hour and that materials plus markup were around $1,000. My own research shows the main materials cost closer to $230. He also compared it to a $5,000 job they did for another customer that required breaking concrete, digging trenches, and other extensive work — none of which applies to my home. My house has a crawl space, the underside is spacious, and I was hiring my own electrician for the electrical portion.
After two more weeks of trying, I reached the owner, Archie. He stood by his team’s pricing. While I respect a company’s right to set its rates, the difference between the initial and final quotes in my case was significant, and it came only after we had agreed to proceed.
While McClay may deliver quality work, my advice is to get multiple quotes and confirm the final price before committing. -
Always a pleasure dealing with any technician from McLays. Bryan was very kind and explained everything he needed to do to locate and clean out our dryer air vent. McLays is always the best option for any problem at home.

As a local resident and business owner, McLay Services has consistently treated us well over the years with great service and honest recommendations. Archie the owner is as good as they come!

Made an appointment for repair of a defective irrigation valve. When Todd arrived he went to solving the issues as noted above and others. The job was completed with repair to the defective valve as well as the entire configuration. I am very satisfied with Todd’s work and the price was right! KIDOS, to Todd and McLay! I will use them for any future plumbing needs.

We previously had McLay do work on our Carrier AC unit where they replaced a bad run capacitor. Service was prompt. This time, we called several times. No call back, when we reached them again, they said they would have to schedule a service call for $200+. We will find another repair service as there are plenty of others that are highly rated in area. Disappointing service level, no response and unclear on what charges will be incurred.

I had dropped an earring down my bathroom sink and also had an issue with our kitchen sink.
I was able to get an appointment right away. Bryan came out and was very knowledgeable and friendly. He explained what he was doing and resolved both issues within a very short time.
It was a very pleasant experience and I would definitely recommend McLay for anyone's plumbing needs. -
I emailed Mclay Services for a problem on my Navean Tankless Water Heater. Their technician, Chad Delk, apparently a supervisor, cams and started checking the inside of the small, tankless water heater.
In my estimation, he spent 15 minutes looking at the inside of the device and found a leaking heat exchanger and another 10 minutes checking with the supplier, Navean, if the problem heat exchanger of the device is under warranty, which came out NOT anymore.
However, being a supervisor, he had been on his cellphone for I think about 20 to 30 minutes, talking to his people on some issues on some of their ongoing projects.
After 55 minutes at my place, to my surprise, he handed me an invoice for $295.00 to sign for payment. $295.00 for 25 minute of easy work.
My mistake was that I didn’t ask him how much it will cost me for whatever work he will be doing. And he didn’t tell me beforehand his cost, which some honest contractor would do.
I think that’s their modus operandi; don’t say anything, pick up your screw driver and start banging on the device.
My advice to you all is that with any contractor, before they perform any job, even just trying to find out what’s wrong with your machine, ask for an estimate. Especially if the contractor is McLay A/C, Heating and Plumbing. If I found out that the simple job of determining the problem on my device would cost me $295.00, I could have decided not to go with this contractor.
My being naived cost me $295.00. Lessons learned……. -
I would like to thank Bryan from McLay plumbing who came out promptly and did an excellent job on my shower, toilet, and two sinks. The price was very fair and the work was exceptional! He was neat and clean and extremely knowledgeable along with his personality . He was absolutely fantastic!
