My heater was not working. The technician from the gas company had told me that my unit just needed a transformer replacement. I asked the gas company technician to leave the unit open for the the hvac technician who will be working on it. Then I called Western Air, their technician came out saw the burn mark in the transformer and said he has to go to his car to see if he has one with him or not. After he returned, he said he has one and his boss has told him to charge $800.
I said no thank you.
I checked the price of the transformer on Amazon and learned it was only around $28. I called another hvac technician who came out & replaced the transformer with one that he had brought with him, cleaned the electronic filter, cleaned & serviced the unit and charged only $160 total. The unit works great.
