I spent months trying to understand the city’s permit rules on my own but made no progress. ADU Builders Bay Area stepped in and explained everything clearly. They handled the drawings, submissions, and scheduled inspections. I really like the vaulted ceiling they suggested. The project finished close to the timeline we discussed, and I didn’t feel shocked by the costs.

We've just completed our garage conversion with ADU Builders Bay Area, and I'm still in awe of how seamless the whole process was. What began as a simple concept—a basic one-bedroom ADU—turned into something so much more for our family, and that's all thanks to their team.

Naturally, there were a few things that we did not anticipate (some weather delays and permit surprises), but the crew consistently kept us informed and worked around them without issue. I was particularly impressed that even on weeks when there were horrible storms, they continued to work on the project without missing a step.
Everyone we interacted with was polite, professional, and communicated effectively—no hard sell or open-ended timetables, just honest work and an open schedule. The finished ADU is beautiful and already feels at home on the property.
Huge thanks to the fantastic team for making what was potentially a stressful project feel so manageable. We are absolutely delighted with the result and would highly recommend them to anyone who is going to build.

We picked ADU Builders Bay Area to build our backyard ADU because they seemed experienced and easy to work with.
They helped us design a comfy 2-bed, 2-bath ADU, showed us detailed 3D models, and handled permits quickly. It took 1 month for approval and they kept us updated.
Construction took six months, and we passed inspection two months later. The team was responsive and the work was great.
4 months later, we're still happy. When we had an insulation issue after a storm, they fixed the wall with no extra cost. Their quality and customer service are great!

This was my first time dealing with a construction project, and I'm really glad I chose ADU Builders Bay Area to help me out. They made everything so easy, from the planning stages to revising designs and handling the permitting. The team was quick to answer my questions and shared great tips along the way. Their know how made everything go a lot smoother. My ADU plans got approved with just a few tweaks, and they made sure to submit any changes to the county well ahead of time. Communication was always clear and regular throughout the process.
Now that the ADU is done, I couldn't be happier. I built it for my mom since I moved her closer to me from another state. I'm really thankful for such a hassle-free experience, and I’d definitely recommend ADU Builders Bay Area to anyone thinking about an ADU project. I'm looking forward to working with them again on future builds.

While we were negotiating with a few builders, we decided to have a contract with ADU Builders Bay Area as we got the best deal with a guaranteed win situation. The builders were flexible with our budget and customized the builds to our needs.

The ADU Builders team kept us updated with the progress on the permits, and every step going forward. Each builder, from the project manager to the designers, was professional and attentive. Hopefully, the project manager kept the workstreams in sync and presented a neat site to us. We really appreciated the design team on the completed work by Mia, excellent. Overall, the team was pleasant and the ADU was completed to high standards. For these reasons, we definitely would recommend this company.

I hired ADU Builders Bay Area to turn our garage into a one-bedroom after spending months attempting to understand San Jose's permit regulations on my own. They took care of the drawings and submittals, informed me before each city inspection, and broke down the entire procedure in simple terms. After permits were granted, construction proceeded steadily. The built-in shelves they recommended for the bedroom are my favorite feature and they surprisingly make the small area work well.

I wanted to build a small rental ADU to help cover my mortgage costs, but I was worried about getting lost in the complexities of permits and inflated quotes. ADU Builders Bay Area helped me plan an efficient unit that maximizes natural light and minimizes the footprint to avoid triggering hefty impact fees. They explained that the return on investment typically reaches around 60% in this area. Permits took a while due to city scheduling, but they kept me updated with weekly emails. Now it’s rented, helping with my mortgage payments. They delivered solid work and offered smart guidance.

We have gone back and forth for a while whether it's worth it practically and financially to put in an ADU. After a few consults, we decided to go ahead with ADU Builders Bay Area and looking back, we are so happy we did.
From the beginning, they were clear, organized, and supportive. Andrew, our ADU consultant, was great at laying things out in simple terms and estimates on what kind of return we could expect. Once our project kicked off, our project manager kept the project on track, and the crew was courteous, friendly, and efficient.
What stood out to us was how well they communicated. They set up a group chat so we were always looped in and knew what to expect at every phase. Overall, it put our minds at ease and it was far less stressful than we thought it would be.
The actual build finished faster than we expected and the quality of the finished ADU has really surpassed our expectations. It looks amazing inside and out. We are already reaping the benefits of having it, and it adds real value to our property.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I felt this one was worth it. We’ve been considering adding an ADU in our backyard for years, but it always seemed like too much trouble. A friend suggested ADU Builders, so I called them. From the start, they really listened to what we wanted and didn’t just push their own ideas.

Alex, who worked with us most of the time, was very patient. He explained everything and didn’t mind when we changed our minds about the layout halfway through. The crew arrived on time, worked hard, and kept the site clean, which my wife really appreciated.

There were a couple of small issues along the way, but they took responsibility and fixed everything without making us feel frustrated. In the end, we got a beautiful ADU that we are now renting out, and it’s already helping us pay off the project.

If you’re unsure about building an ADU, I’d recommend giving these guys a try. They’re not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. They do solid work and care about the outcome.

Okay, here's my take on ADU Builders Bay Area – nobody's perfect, right? We had them build a 650 sq ft 2-story attached unit.

The good stuff: the design is gorgeous, the finishes are top-notch, and they stuck to the budget. Communication was great... until week 12 when our project manager quit. We were a little lost for a couple of weeks until they got us a new one. Also, there were some mix-ups with the schedule – like the tile guys showing up way too early and having to come back.

But, they took responsibility for the issues. They gave us better appliances to make up for it, and the project only finished two weeks behind schedule. Even with the hiccups, the finished product is beautiful, and they fixed their mistakes. That's why I'm giving them 5 stars.

My advice? Get everything in writing, especially who your point of contact will be. Would we hire them again? Yeah, but we'd stay on top of communication more.

We aimed to create a self-contained studio ADU in Santa Clara, to serve as a guest house. Working with ADU Builders Bay Area was a smooth experience from start to finish. Their project manager portal was very useful as they would routinely provide us with photo updates, and all documents related to the project were easy to find in one location. The crew was efficient, and the site was always tidy. They finished work on time as promised, and the final product is very modern, very well insulated, and exactly what we need. We are very happy with the finished project. I don't want to leave a lot of photos of my project, so I'll share only two.

We wanted something small but functional for guests visiting from out of town. ADU Builders Bay Area took care of the design and permits. They included thoughtful details like built-in storage and a small patio area. The whole process took longer than we expected, mostly due to city approvals, but the actual construction went smoothly. Our friends have already stayed there and said it feels like a real apartment, not just a shed in the yard.

I hired ADU Builders Bay Area to convert my detached garage into a legal rental unit. Since I travel a lot for work, regular updates were important to me. Their team sent weekly photos and summaries, which eased my worries. Permitting can be tough, but they knew the process and handled it well. I appreciated that the budget stayed close to our initial discussions. The ADU was rented within 1 week of completion.

While I am building my backyard cottage, I genuinely feel good about ADU Builders Bay Area. I got to hear all the stories of contractors and the lack of consistency and issues with delivery, so I went into the project with some level of hesitation.

Consistency is what I appreciated the most with their team. I am a frequent traveler, and so I was away during a chunk of construction. Even during those times, I was kept up to date through the status updates and pictures. This level of transparency surely helped build a lot of trust. In the end, the timeline was shorter than actually predicted, being about 4 months. The quality of the final work was amazing.

I was given quotes, and the same quotes were given again, and again halfway through the project. I decided to add a couple of upgrades, and those extra costs went into the upgrades, and I was not surprised in any way.

On the fly, I gained a lot of confidence in their building problems solving skills, as they managed some drainage and electrical issues.

Building an ADU certainly came with its challenges. For one, our backyard was not just a simple slope. Everyone had to hear our backyard was an un-buildable mini cliff. Everyone had to hear that a construction company would tell us that building an ADU would require a retaining wall that would cost us over six figures. With an attitude that defied the odds, ADU Builders Bay Area took it as a challenge. They came up with the first innovative plan of a split level. This would need a specialized deep steel and concrete reinforced pier system. They partnered with us to figure out the complicated engineering involved. With project manager David and Andrew, it became clear. They had to build a custom seamless 3D model that showcased their vision as a hillside integrated structure. They had to completely simulate the entire construction process. They didn't bulldoze when confronted with an unexpected seam of loose rock. They brought in a geotech and made an important adjustments to the pier depth. This was a premium project. But it certainly wasn't just an ADU. It was a one of a kind, solid, treehouse-like, cantilevered studio. Rather than just build on our land, they built with it. They changed a not possible from the vast majority of contractors to a wow with their final result.

We built a one-bedroom ADU in our backyard in San Jose. This was so my mom could live closer while still maintaining her independence. ADU Builders Bay Area guided us through everything, from layout ideas to dealing with the city. The design team helped us fit a lot into a small space, and the construction crew treated our neighbors with respect. It took a bit longer than we hoped due to scheduling inspections, but the result is worth it. Mom has moved in and has already made it feel like home.

Our kitchen looks amazing thanks to Leo’s work on the countertops and tile. We’re excited to have them back for our bathroom project this summer.

We contracted with skytech builders to remodel our master bathroom shower. Yonathan and Leo came back to us with a competitive price point and it could’ve not went better for us. They helped us through the permitting process, shopping for finish materials and were able to manage the project smoothly. We love our new remodeled and modern bathroom. Thank you Skytech builders!
