HVAC reviews in Denver, Colorado

This is the ac company you want to avoid at all costs. Ignore this message at your own peril. Tech showed up, did not know how to diagnose two non working units outside. Did not even talk about switch box breaker, ac fuse etc. Said capacitor is gone, after checking just one unit and proceed to charge a diagnostic fee. Didn’t take a pic to see what type of capacitor needs to be replaced and wanted to get back to a company meeting. Called them 6 times to submit info r warranty and they didn’t after first lying that they had. Did not show up for follow up appointment nor respond when they would. I cancelled the work order entirely. Horrible company

Update on May 17: I had a minor issue that I called about yesterday, and Austin made time to come out to take care of it for me this morning. This experience reinforces everything I previously posted about their service. And I will continue to refer others to them! Thank You Again!
I cannot say enough positive things about everyone at Big Dog Heating and Cooling! They made multiple trips to my home, gave me direct phone numbers to call their staff and technicians, and the owners made a weekend visit to follow up with me after the installation of a new water heater. Professional service with a personal touch. They also helped me navigate the hoops my (now former) home warranty company made me jump through. I plan to be a life time customer of Big Dog!! -
Wish I could give them negative stars because this company is absolutely the worst. The technician hasn’t “had his laptop” since Tuesday morning to send the report to my home warranty after deeming my unit needing replaced. Who doesn’t have two minutes to send a report in after three days?!!!!! Found a sticker on the unit advertising their business and promptly took it off. Like literally all they did was sticker my unit. Go with a different company at all costs. Unfortunately, I’m stuck with this horror show until my warranty can get the report from these people.

Had big dog over to looknat our A/C. Nick was very knowledgeable and their price was very reasonable compared to other companies.
I would recommend them for your hvac needs. -
I would give zero stars if I could. This is the most incompetent company I have ever had the displeasure of working with. Not sure how they stay in business. If you are expecting an HVAC company that can do any of the following things, then you should immediately look elsewhere:
-Being able to give you an accurate ETA of when they plan to arrive at your house and actually sticking to it. Big Dog can't do this. They will not give you an ETA if you don't beg them, and if they do, they will either miss their ETA by completely canceling on you last minute or showing up 4 hours late with zero notice.
-Being able to repair an ac in under one month. Or even finish a job for that matter. Big dog started trying to fix my ac in May and it's almost July .. not finished and they sure do not make it a priority to finish what they started. Or seem like they really even care for that matter. I have been canceled on by then at least 5 times now. Their guys come in and tinker around with something for 30 minutes and then just say "sorry we don't know what it is" and leave. Like I'm sorry but most people aren't allowed to just say that they don't know how to do their job and then just leave with it unfinished like that.
If you love waiting around at your house every day from 8am to 1pm for an ac company that will never show up and not give you any notice, this is a great company for you! -
Review update - after the initial 5⭐️ review (the initial tech visit to diagnose the issue with AC) we’ve been trying to get our unit fixed. They were sent to us through a Home warranty co. They didn’t show up for a scheduled appointment, do not respond to messages and claim they couldn’t reach us in a response to the warranty Co inquiry about the missed appt. It’s been dragging on for 2 weeks, the temps outside are about to hit 100 and we have no AC. STAY AWAY FROM BIG DOG!

When our A.C. went out on May 31, 2024, our warranty company sent Big Dog out to access the situation. Their recommendation was a completely new system (which we were suspecting), and after an 8 week battle with the warranty company, we finally got what we needed. Big Dog was required to come numerous times to meet the warranty's demands, and they stuck with us to the bitter end. We can recommend Big Dog for the quality of their work and commitment to seeing the job done completely.

Run – don’t walk- away from Big Dog Heating and Cooling – especially if 2-10 Home Buyers warranty sends them your way! They are incompetent, uncertified, untrained and unprofessional. They make their money through their deal with the supply house on REPLACING equipment and do not have the training necessary to make REPAIRS. My experience is similar to many of those reviews left here. 2-10 first sent out Big Dog in February 2024 to diagnose our furnace which, of course, they determined needed to be replaced though I am not confident in that diagnosis now. While the technician was on-site, I asked him where the filter went and he responded, “it just lays inside the cabinet” and I accepted that. We had another company come to do a furnace clean and tune this winter and they explained that the filter rack was not installed as it should have been by Big Dog. I spoke with the owner of Big Dog, Cherry Johnson and she acknowledged that the technician that installed the furnace was negligent and should have installed the filter rack as 2-10 paid them $175 to do so! She assured me she would make it right and would come out to install the filter rack. To date, she has gone dark and will not return calls, texts or emails even after no-showing for several appointments to install the filter rack. I now have a certified, competent company coming out to install the filter rack at my expense. The life of our furnace was likely impacted by this and we have been breathing dust and toxins for over a year now that should have been filtered out by a proper filter installation. At the same time the above was going on, 2-10 once again sent out Big Dog to diagnose a non-working gas heater in our garage. They failed twice on their diagnosis to repair and ended up throwing $1100 of parts at this heater to no avail. They then determined that it needed to be replaced (of course) and quoted me an exorbitant price for the heater itself and then wanted to charge $2400 in labor to simply hang it on the ceiling and hook up the wiring and the vent! I attempted to negotiate this amount with the owner, Cherry and she told me that they used a “flat rate” for their labor no matter what is involved! (What??) As we were unable to arrive at an agreement as Cherry would not call me back, I cashed-out on the replacement heater but since they had already paid Big Dog $1100, this reduced what I was paid for the replacement heater by that $1100. Further, as the above was going on with the first garage heater, another gas heater in our other garage stopped working so Big Dog assured me they could fix that one as well. Their diagnosis of garage heater #2 showed a bad blower motor. After a week of waiting for them to come back, they came back and replaced the blower motor assembly that did not fix the issue. They then diagnosed that it was a bad mother board – makes no sense. They left after two attempts to fix the heater stating that they would look for a mother board. I had to call many times to get the diagnosis that they could not find a board and the heater would need to be replaced – again, they were out of market value on their price for the heater and also wanted to charge $2400 for labor! To add insult to injury, after they left the last time, I realized that they left with the blower motor and shroud assembly and have failed to return them. They took my property without my permission and thereby robbed me of my ability to have a second opinion on this heater by a reputable HVAC contractor. I now have to replace that unit. So two garage heaters for Big Dog to replace, they would have charged me $6600 to do it and this is roughly DOUBLE of what it should have been. I have ordered heaters on my own and found a reputable HVAC contractor to hang the two units for their hourly rate which will be $400 in labor! I am rarely compelled to write reviews, however, I hope that this will protect another poor consumer and 2-10 Homebuyers Warranty customer from the unfortunate experience of exposure to this company. DO NOT USE!

This company is extremely non-communicative. It has been an entire year just to get them to show up to replacey AC and furnace then to finish the installation. This started in May of 2024, they didn't replace it until October 2024, didn't finish the job. It is now April and they have still not finished the installation. I call them numerous times, set up appointments only for them to not show up, not communicate and continue to push dates back without notice. I think waiting for an entire year for work to be done is unacceptable and the lack of communication and responsibility has made this a frustrating experience. Do not recommend.

Wish I read all the negative reviews on this company prior to working with them. My parent's AC didn't work so we had this company come out to diagnosis the problem a month and a half ago. They initially send someone out that was not able to correctly diagnosis what the problem was. Then they kept saying they will call me back when I call to check when will the problem be solved. Every single time they say they will call you right back or call you before the end of the day, they never will. I spoke with Cherry the owner many times after repeatedly calling her cell phone and she is very nice when she speaks with you and tell you she really cares and want to make sure she fixes the problem. However, this never happened. My parents is also taking care of an infant and I wanted to make sure they have AC since it's been over 100 degrees for weeks. They will send someone out and they will make a different diagnosis and state the initial one was incorrect due to hiring new people that did not know what they were doing. One of their employees that came out to look at everything a 3rd time said the company is a mess right now and nothing is getting done correctly so he will try to fix it. 2 days later when I reach out, that employee quit due to all the problems. We paid to have them come out to look at the issue and they never can figure it out and can't return your calls on why it's taking so long. After 1.5 months, we finally gave up and called a different company that was able to fix the problem right away. This experience was horrible for my family. Cherry seems very nice when you speak with her but she never can follow through on what she tell you. This company is a mess and I would recommend saving yourself the headache and staying away from them.

Similar experience to other recent negative reviews. We were referred by our home warranty. Big Dog Installed our heat pump incorrectly in July of 2024. It is still not working properly. We have no AC. Sounds like some very incompetent staff were involved and then fired- which has created a backlog of incompetantly done jobs. However, we made the mistake of paying in full before the job was completed and are left with being strung along. Cherry is trying- she dropped off portable AC units for us at one point and has come by a couple of times every couple of weeks... But at this time I would not recommend them until they can prove they can rectify these botched jobs without further upsetting their current customers from poor communication, no shows, and empty promises.

Do NOT use this company. They are absolutely terrible. They do not communicate, they refuse to answer phone calls or emails. I tried to get in contact with them for a month to follow up on a diagnosis. Could not speak to anyone who was able to help. They did not work with the warranty company. I called a different HVAC company and they fixed the problem with in 10 minutes. Please save yourself the headache and stay far away from this company.

Big Dog Heating is the best. They helped so much. We had issues and had to reschedule. But they were so good at getting back with us. And when they came out, the service was really above and beyond. Friendly, knowledgeable and just fantastic to work with. We have thier card and will call them for all our heating and cooling needs. Thanks so much

Our house is at that age where things have begun to run their course and we had the trifecta of replacements needed; AC, Furnace and Water Cooler. Big Dog showed up, educated and communicated. They explained what was happening, what needed to be done and in the end, they were able to provide us great prices and great service. Thank you so much for your hard work, attention to detail, and your more than pleasant attitudes. We appreciate you and are extremely happy everything is now running smoothly!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! This company was booked under our home warranty. We had a scheduled appointment and they texted us 10 minutes before the appointment and said they had a "Flat Tire" and needed to reschedule. I told them that it does not take 4 hours to change a flat tire. I had taken work off to be available and that I could be home anytime allay. The owner Cherry then called me and was extremely rude and unpleasant. I tried to be sympathetic of the alleged excuse and asked if her technician was a bunch of jobs behind. She just kept talking over me and she eventually hung up. I have never been treated so poorly as a customer. Nothing was ever resolved. I am still in shock how the owner called me and just ran her mouth the whole time never listening at all and offering no solutions or customer service.

LONG-WORTH READING! TURN THIS COMPANY AWAY IF THEY ARE SENT TO YOUR HOME. Involves GAS LEAKS, NO PERMITS & SO MANY OTHER ISSUES! Would give 0 stars if it were possible. This ordeal has become our worst nightmare of 2025 and is still not resolved!! We considered going to small claims court over this but have PTSD and just want to move on now. I will not even be able to go into full detail here because of the max character limit…1/27/23 they came out and said our 23 year old furnace needed to be replaced. Cherry, the owner, helped us with the warranty company but they ultimately only gave us $600 towards our new furnace and said in order to get it that we had to use the company they sent out (Big Dog Heating & Cooling). Big Dog quoted $6k for the furnace. 2/03/25 they were late but did the install and left the condensate pump detached and leaking on the floor. 2/4/25 they came back with the new pump but did not electrically connect the wires from the old pump and said they would come back. 2/10/25 I had to reach out to her to get them back out to hook up the pump. By this time the temps outside were in the teens-20's and the furnace had stopped working. Woke up to our house (with two toddlers) being 53 degrees. From this point it was a series of issues from the install…Cherry or Jimmy was at our house 1-2 times per week changing out different parts and trying different things. End of March we told them to take the furnace out and asked for a refund after all of this and still not working. We agreed to a full replacement and they would remove our old water heater that also needed replacing (we installed new one). 4/16/25 2nd new furnace install. That night at 9pm my husband and I smelled gas in our basement near the furnace room. Cherry came out right away with a gas reader and it was at 2ppm according to her reader. She said you are fine with anything under 7ppm. Obviously, any gas leak is NOT OKAY. Next morning we smelled it higher up and called the Xcel gas hotline to come out immediately. The tech said that the flex line they used from the gas line going into the furnace is not up to code and with his gas sniffer it was measuring at 43ppm!! 2 PPM AWAY FROM THE LOWER COMBUSTION LIMIT. SO SCARY. He replaced the flex pipe Big Dog has used with an up to code metal pipe and fixed the gas leak. The Xcel tech said "Do not call that company back out to your house, this is one of the worst installs i have seen in my 20 years of doing this” and named 5 things that were not up to code. Big Dog had at one point taken off the pipe from the air exchanger to blow it out to see if that was the problem back in Feb and NEVER REPLACED IT. Cherry told me, "Just don't run your A/C, I have some window units/swamp coolers I can bring for you." Jimmy had mentioned that Cherry wanted him to let us know that tariffs are about to increase the price of the A/C units, so she can get us a deal now on one. This is when nothing was ever wrong with our A/C before this nightmare of a company entered my house. My dad ended up having to rig a connection tube that would drain into the laundry room floor drain in order for us to use our A/C in the summer. Without this, when we would run our A/C at the beginning of the summer, it would leak water all over the top of the brand new furnace. We had someone from Lakewood Plumbing & HVAC come out. Within 3 minutes of being there he told us exactly why the furnaces were not working. The pipes running out to the side of the house from furnace for venting are not at the correct amount of slope per foot of piping. He also listed 6+ other things that are not up to code from the install that Big Dog did and other things that were pre-existing but they did not catch and had no knowledge base for. He said no matter what DO NOT CALL BIG DOG BACK OUT FOR ANY REASON. NO PERMITS were pulled for their work and the head of mechanical for Denver city building inspectors could NOT find an HVAC license for them. We will now have to pay $3k to get our brand new furnace from Big Dog up to code and Cherry refused to pay the $3k.

Good job. Hard to find parts but they did it.

They did not follow through on their appointments.

Jurassic Air came out and replaced our hot water heater. We will call them again
