Richard handled winterizing our lawn sprinkler system and it was clear he is dedicated to finishing a job the right way. During the project an unexpected complication arose and Richard worked the problem until everything was perfect for winter. Great job.

This is by far the worst contractor that we have dealt with in 38 years. After researching the price of concrete we found that we were being charged more than 2 X the high going rate. They say that they have been in business for 20 years when it's really only 8. We found them to be dishonest and they were constantly complaining that they were doing work for free when we were being charged for it per our contract. We had several issues with their veracity which we brought to their attention. We paid them $10,000 (1/2) up front and the remainder was to be paid after all work was completed. They insisted that they would not come back to pour the concrete unless we paid in full prior to completion of project. The wife, threatened to come to our house and remove the framing and re-bar. Our $10,000 payment up front more than covered the work done with almost 1/2 coming back to us. The re-bar was taken from the concrete that they demolished at our house. My advise would be to find someone who you trust and has a good reputation.
Because they have refused to finish the job we have received estimates from other contractors that measured the space at almost 500 square feet less than what Rainmaker put in our contract. The prices we have gotten for stamped concrete are less than what they were charging us for regular concrete.

All communication is going through our lawyers. There was only one change order and when we realized that they were charging us for 1200 square feet when is slightly over 600, we asked to go back to our original agreement or charge us for the actual square feet.. They they refused both options and claimed that they would only complete the work if we paid for 1200 sq feet of stamped an additional $7000 bringing the entire job to over $27,000. They had not ordered or paid for the colored concrete. Now they are charging us for texts and emails they sent to us.

We just found out that they put a lein on our house fragulantly as they walked off the job before pouring 1 ounce of concrete. They never gave notice of a lien and lied about the whole thing. BEWARE STAY AWAY FROM THIS UNPROFESSIONAL "COMPANY".

We had the pleasure of working with Rainmaker Landscapes last summer. We had a strict budget and, after several quotes from other companies that would have allowed us to only complete portions of what we wanted to do in our backyard, we were pleasantly surprised to be able to work with RM to complete the entire project within our budget. Our project was a big one, and involved removing tons of existing dirt and rock, and replacing it with a retaining wall, new sod, bushes, trees, and sprinkler system to take care of them all. It turned out fantastic. They also turned an old fire pit into a pond at our request. During the project an existing fence post was broken, and it was replaced without a word.

We had no issues with RM completing what they agreed to in the contract, and they didn’t ask us for any additional money before the job was completed, even though I have a feeling the retaining wall was a bigger project and took more time and blocks than they anticipated. This is a small business with some of the usual small business issues (like scheduling during the busy season with limited resources), but with just a little patience comes the personal touch that you won’t get from bigger companies.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend RM to friends and family.

Paid 50% deposit and asked for a start date. Waited 2 days with no response. Finally got email stating they were waiting for my check to clear. Sounded odd as my credit union has never held my checks before. Called credit union and was told it was cashed 2 days earlier. They then stated they would check with there bank. Called next day to find out what the outcome was and no response. Following day got call back and lots of excuses were offered but still no start date. Lots of alarm bells going off. So at this point I asked to have $$ returned and was told they would bring it that night. No show and 3 days later still no answer to emails, calls or texts. 9am tomorrow I am in the courthouse to file a civil suit. My advice is do not trust this company. 3 weeks later and still no refund of my $3500 deposit. Got Tom Martino involved and now working with Fox News problem solvers to get resolution. Have contacted BBB and have filed paperwork with courts. Pretty bad that this company chose not to just give the $$$ back.

tl:dr
I am mostly pleased with the finished product produced by Rainmaker Landscape. However, for the price paid, which is significant but appropriate for the amount of work performed, too many frustrations and causes for personal intervention were involved to ensure a professional-grade result. If John at Rainmaker had simply produced work that he would want at his own house (Golden Rule) without my intervention, this would be a 5-star review.

Although the work performed by John's team was a marked improvement over what my front yard was, it was not without frustration. This is my number one complaint. A consumer should be able to trust that the contractor is capable and interested in producing professional results without intervention. This was not my experience.

[Cost]
I think, given the work that was agreed upon, the price was just about right at around $10k. I don't suffer from the delusion that it is cheap or easy to transform a front yard. The work performed included:

- Installation of a retaining wall, 70-80ft long and four 6-in blocks tall
- removal of old "lawn"
- a brick-lined pit (aqueduct? micro fallout shelter? nobody knows) that was in the front yard and covered with a stone slab - caved and filled in with dirt
- a sprinkler system w/ 6 sprinkler heads installed
- 3 french drains installed on gutter downspouts
- new soil, sod + edging installed
- grading for proper water runoff

It was a sizable task, no doubt. Others have suggested that the price was high, but I have had work done elsewhere on my house, and I have a pretty good feel for the relative cost of work.
I paid it because I expected to get a professional job. As I said, I had to intervene several times to make sure I wasn't going to be stuck with sub-par results.

1) The retaining wall: This was the single original goal of the work that I approached Rainmaker Landscapes with, and should have been the primary focus to do right. I had to insist several times that John do it as originally planned rather than shorten the length or do less than the full 24-in height.

2) John borrowed my neighbor's sledge hammer after breaking his mallet while trying to break up the aforementioned concrete slab covering the brick-lined pit. What happened, you ask? Well, he broke my neighbor's sledge hammer handle and without even pausing for breath, handed the broken sledge to him and says "it had a crack in the handle". I was very embarrassed at his behavior in front of my neighbor. If a tool is already damaged or weakened, you shouldn't be using it. And if you already broke your tool, you probably should be using a more suitable tool for the job. And how could you make this situation better? By suggesting that your client pay for the replacement tool. Yep. That happened. I will say that, in the end, he took care of replacing the tool himself. However, the damage to his reputation at this point was already done.

3) I had to speak with the plumbing contractor directly to get the new water-line copper pipe, clearly visible on the finished family room wall in my basement, leveled. The plumber soldered it at about a 15 degree angle off level and was prepared to leave it there. I noticed it at the end of the work crew's day. He took off and left it like that. 15 degrees is significant over a three foot piece of pipe running beneath a level window.

4) The French drains. John had not left a sufficient length of drain sock to cover the perforated drain tubes. We could have waited for his return, but that ended up being about 5 hours later, and honestly, I didn't want to have to deal with him again at this point. So, I went to the hardware store and purchased a new roll so that the workers could get the job done and not waste any more time.

5) No insulation on the new external copper pipe. In Colorado...

6) There is currently a 6-8" depression in my front yard where water gathers and can't be mowed. Still waiting for them to come resolve.

we have used Rainmakers landscapes on two different properties of ours.
both times they showed up when promised and completed work on time and efficiently. always respectful and professional. not to mention the work looked amazing. their designs came out better than we could have imagined. we will definetely use them again this summer on our next project. Rainmaker Landscapes had done numerous jobs for us. Sod, sprinkler system, concrete work. Removed old wooden deck, replaced it with a beautiful stone deck, that requires no sanding or staining. Replaced our front porch with the stone work also. It is beautiful and requires no maintenance. Thank You John and Amanda, and your crew. We will continue to use you on our next project.

Hired Rainmaker to install RV driveway/parking. Was presently surprised by the idea John came up with to keep the ground in towards the house. Equally surprised on how fast he got the job done and how amazed it looks. Definitely will hire again when the time comes. Excellent communication, excellent work. Highly recommend.

Reached out again to another project. No response.

John and Amanda were amazing to work with. Had our backyard completely redone several years ago. It was a mess from the previous owners and the only way to deal with it was to literally just rip it all out and start from scratch. Our grass is still doing great, our trees have grown amazingly well and we love the entire area. Had them come back out 2 years later to help deal with some drainage issues in the front yard and put in a riverbed for us. It was such a swampy area and next to impossible to mow, the wasps were insane and the smell was getting pretty bad. We've yet to have an issue with either jobs they've done. Great people to work with, honest and wouldn't hesitate to hire them again for future projects that come up.

We couldn’t be happier and highly recommend Rainmaker Landscapes. John, Amanda and their crew did an amazing job and were some of the hardest working individuals we’ve ever hired. They replaced a retaining wall, sod front and back, multiple flower beds, fence with RV gate and a trailer paver pad.

I read their online reviews, where in question, read their response, and when a list of prior customers was provided with their quote, I took the time to call a number of them before making our decision. We truly have our dream yard and want to thank them for it!

We moved into our home in April, and finally I couldn't take the dogs bringing in the dirt anymore, it was time for landscaping. In July I started calling landscapers, I called 11 companies, and only 3 responded. One of those was Rainmakers. Even though their quote was a little higher than the others, the professionalism and responsiveness was amazing, and John and Amanda clearly knew what they were doing.

They were open to our requests, even the odd one from my daughter, who wanted a stage in the backyard, and were willing to share their own expertise as well. Our backyard went from dirt and weeds, to a place that we truly love hanging out. It was an expense that we didn't expect, but turned out to be an amazing investment, especially during the pandemic when we were asked to stay home. We had an outdoor spot that is comfortable and beautiful to be in.

I highly recommend Rainmakers with John & Amanda and their crew. They not only did a great job, but finished on time and were wonderful to work with.
