South Eastern Carpentry demolished our old deck and built a new Azek composite 31' x 18' deck with Key-Link railing and horizontal cables, including a whole new frame, stairway, and several footings. We cannot remark positively enough about Steve, the owner, and his crew of John and Joe. They hold themselves to exceptionally high standards in quality and professionalism, are personable, and communicate well. The new frame greatly exceeded building code standards, and our town Building Inspector remarked privately to us that he greatly respected Steve's projects among all the work he examines. A couple of unforeseen problems came up during the construction which Steve was able to solve on the fly, but Steve nevertheless stayed within the contract price and finished the deck when he said he would. They have a very strong work ethic, as evidenced by their excavating 4-foot deep footings by hand in 95 degree heat. Even though this was Steve's first Key-Link horizontal cable deck, he quickly progressed through a steep learning curve to a point, at the end, where he could have given Key-Link's engineers a few pointers about how to improve their product and make it easier to build. Steve and his crew took a level of expertise that is expected from finish carpenters, and applied those same skills and levels of quality to our deck.

We had the house sided by SEC, a major project. All the old siding and gutters removed; then new insulation, siding, gutters, two new windows, a new back door, and a new front door w/sidelight units installed. Where there was some rotted wood found underneath the old siding, it was replaced.

Steve is absolutely meticulous, to the point of OCD. The job was be done perfectly, starting with a laser to mark level around the house, to special-ordering long siding panels to eliminate all the seams mere 12' panels leave. The complex work around the two walk-out bays and the power/meter took days, but everything was carefully measured and fitted .

Steve also had some very creative suggestions, particularly trim above the front door and windows.

This work, when done properly, takes both time and skill. Steve and Rick are neither the fastest nor the cheapest. If you want a slap-dash job by swarm of aliens, with one English-speaking supervisor, perhaps for a "flip," go with some big remodeler. It will be done quickly.

However, f you want your house remodeled by a craftsman, who will pay close attention to all the details and work until he satisfies both you and himself, hire SEC.

Stephen and team were absolute professionals. They delivered on time, on budget with exceptional craftsmanship. They completely transformed our deck and basement. Can't wait to have them tackle our bathroom.

Steve and South Eastern Carpentry replaced our large wooden deck recently. When we decided to go with South East Carpentry, I was very impressed by Steve's finish work and his level of detail carpentry that was beyond what any others provided. What astounded me however is that when the work commenced, the amount of time and materials Steve put into reinforcing our substructure before even building our deck. No other comparably priced quotes from some very good contractors included this level of analysis and revision of the existing substructure, that was in very good condition to begin with. Beyond that, the finished deck is beautiful with unique detailed joinery that is Steve’s ‘signature’. Materials were of the highest quality available.
