Our home was built in 1952 and with a few minor remodels along the way we decided it was time to bring our house into the 21st century. We knew immediately what contractor we wanted to use and that was Homeworks Construction, Inc. We had worked with them 12 years ago on another project and had nothing but good memories. Sure enough they made what could have been an overwhelming experience nothing but simple and easy. All along the way we were provided with a time line and they came in on time even with some of our change orders affecting it. They provided architectural help as well as everything needed in the way of cabinetry, lighting, plumbing parts and flooring, all in house.
Heather was our go to gal, she was on property almost every day, and available to answer questions with a smile on her face. All the subs were polite and did great work. The house was constantly cleaned up and trash removed on a regular basis. The result was amazing, we couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you to everyone involved, from Marshall and Heather to everyone in the office and on property. You did a remarkable job!

Great company, knowledgeable employees. Called first a couple years ago when we were just in planning stages. The girl that answers the phone gave us a lot of info and a heads up permits take a long time. Called back when we were ready and they came out to give us a quote. They worked with us on some lot issues and were able to build us our dream home, just a little smaller. The guys that worked on our project were great, no neighbor complaints or noise issues, longest part was waiting for the permit. Mahalo!

Homeworks Construction did a complete rebuild on our home plus built an 800 square foot ADU. We had an excellent experience with them, and highly recommend them if you are looking for professional, high quality, beautiful work done within the contracted time. We needed a company that could help us from start to finish with permitting, design, and building.

We had gotten quotes from 5 other construction companies but decided on Homeworks because we really liked Heather Hickox, who came to our house to look at the place, listened to our ideas and she gave us great ideas too. She spent time with us and was very helpful and friendly and gave us a good impression of the company and what they had to offer. We also liked the fact that they drafted a drawing along with giving us a quote at a later meeting and that the quote was reasonable given the scope of work.

Planning and permitting took the longest time, but that was due to covid times and delays with DPP, not Homeworks' fault. Once demolition occurred, everything went quickly, smoothly, according to plan, and was often ahead of schedule! From demo to completion, everything took about 9 months. They planned and ordered things ahead of time to avoid delays. We are extremely happy with the way it all looks and turned out.

Everyone we worked with throughout the process was professional and knowledgeable in their area and stage of the project. Bob did a great job with the demo, Cody had great creative ideas and helped with the planning (David as well who is no longer with Homeworks), Elyse and Sean designed our dream kitchen and bathrooms that came out amazing, Marc Dawson was our project manager and made sure everything was coordinated and done according to schedule and in a timely manner, Marlon did a nice job of putting together details at the end of the project, and most of the subcontractors were friendly and professional. Janelle doing the admin side of things in the office is on top of things and very responsive. The owners Marshall and Silvio took the time to speak to us and problem solve when questions arose. I never met the architect personally but love the design of the house. I'm sorry if I missed anyone, there were many people who worked with us along the way and all were great.

They came out to the house and did a free estimate. Keeping our budget in mind, they worked with us to determine what to do with our 50+ year home. They've been patient with us throughout the design process and we're excited to start construction.

I had a bathroom addition added on to my house that is almost 100 years old. It is always a challenge to find a contractor that listens to what you want and gives good advice on how to make the end results even better. Even more importantly a contractor that is responsive and communicates often and effectively. I knew when and what time the workers would be there each day and what they would be doing. The sight was cleaned up before they left each day. There were some delays along the way but only because of supply chain issues which I was told about upfront. The people of Homeworks were a pleasure to work with, from the sales person to the project manager to the workers. Making any updates to your home is tough but Homeworks made it far less stressful! I would recommend Homeworks to anyone, no matter how small or large the project is!!!

The building inspector at my house (formerly), while my construction was going on, told me that S.Tanaka was THE BEST and most honest contractor in Hawaii. He was right.

We have never been through any major home remodel or build out, so needless to say, we were very worried about who we could trust to design and build a home for our family. While still living on the mainland, my wife and I found a few companies online as well as getting referrals from some friends who had recently finished their homes. After sitting through presentations, phone calls, and site visits with more than five local companies, it was clear to us that S. Tanaka came out on top for our needs. Our first priority was to work with someone with excellent communication, who seemed to genuinely care about our project, had a history of quality work, and could clearly articulate their process. From the beginning and through to the end, Tanaka presented all of those qualities and made us feel confident that what was promised would be delivered.
Ryan, the owner, patiently worked with us via video chat, text, email, in-person site visit, and in-office to answer all questions, point out areas of potential for the site, and most importantly give us STRAIGHT FORWARD answers. Not once did we feel like we were being sold or pushed into any decision, Ryan and Jen always acted as consultants and helped us to distinguish our needs from wants in order to stick to our vision. Once we put our plan on paper Tanaka worked hard to put us in control of the budget and stuck to their promises, no hidden fees or surprises at all - a BIG part of the project which they made VERY easy to understand.. Any changes which would be extra were clearly explained and communicated.
As with all big projects, alterations will need to be made along the way. Despite all of the complexities of a house build, Tanaka was quick to respond to our changes and always found a reasonable solution to our request. The team's professionalism and experience definitely made up for our lack of knowledge about the homebuilding process. My wife was at the job site weekly to understand what steps were coming up, probably a bit frustrating for the workers; luckily all the subcontractors and in-house craftsmen were friendly and patient.
We have been in the house for almost a month now and have been loving the final result! We still have regular communication with Tanaka for small touchups - it is nice to know that the team is still there to take us all the way through to the end and beyond. Hope our 2 cents helps those who are unsure about the home buidling process. Definitely put Tanaka on the top of your call list when considering a contractor for your home project!

When my wife and I first started this process, we were interested in doing an extensive renovation on my grandparents’ home. We met with several contractors and got estimates for both renovations and new builds. When we met with Ryan, he informed us that his company specializes in new builds. Not thinking that we could afford a new build (since the other contractors quoted us so high), we still asked for a quote. Within a short timeframe, Ryan came up with a great design and an estimate that fit within our budget. What surprised us the most were the little things he picked up from our initial meeting that he included in the design. That’s how we knew he was someone who truly listens to his clients.

The quality of service did not end there. Whenever we had questions or concerns, Jen, Weylin and the team at S. Tanaka Construction responded to us very quickly. As we watched our house being built, we found that all of the subcontractors we met were hard workers and really nice. And whenever things would come up, Ryan, Jen and Weylin always kept us in the loop. This is a company that takes pride in making sure their customers are comfortable and happy.

We can wholeheartedly say that S. Tanaka Construction exceeded every one of our expectations. In the end, our home was completed well within our timeline and our budget. My wife and I are so in love with our house. It’s been almost 2 years since we completed the build, but S. Tanaka Construction is still there for us whenever we need them. This is a company you will not regret working with.
