Great service, Judy and Zac were soooo helpful. The passion and love of these incredible people is just amazing. Had a great time buying new plants.

Your #1 spot for buying plants AND getting the best quality advice. Even if you don’t have a green thumb, the folks in the greenhouse are incredibly experienced, always speaking with a smile. I really enjoy my visits here, especially as someone who has become a plant parent.
Very LGBTQ friendly! They use gender-neutral language in their customer service, and I’ve loved every visit. PLEASE SUPPORT GETHSEMANE! -
The BEST place for all plant/tree needs! We wanted to create a beautiful arrangement for our hanging railing planters and didn't know here to start. It can be overwhelming. Gail assisted us and helped design an amazing assortment of plants and flowers that love the sun and can handle higher winds. Check out the photos of the arrangement we created with her and then how we did it as soon as we got home! Gail was amazing and really cared about making sure we were happy and we felt went out of her way. Overall Gethsemane is just full of good vibes and happy folks - both the employees and the customers!

Update: the staff at Gethsemane did reach out to me and helped rectify this situation.

As a decades long customer of Gethsemane Garden Center (spending between $500 - $1000 each season), I'm sad to report the quality of the plants sold there have noticeably declined. I never minded paying a premium price when Gethsemane offered higher quality; however, this year 3-4 of the perennials I there purchased died within a month or so.
Case in point: see the photo. I purchased two of these perennials based on the recommendation of a Gethsemane employee. Planted side by side, one is doing just fine, the other is dead. Same light, same soil, some amount of water. I have to think it was the plant itself.
When I was at Gethsemane earlier today, I mentioned this to the perennial staff member (just happened to be the same woman who initially recommended these plants.) Of course, she said it was likely the soil, the light, watering ... and at least inferred it was my gardening skills.
I suggested the evidence pointed to a different conclusion, but the employee definitely would not consider providing a replacement. "Our policy." -
Great plant and decor selection. The prearranged planters are very well put together and have thoughtful pairings. I appreciated the clear and visible signs regarding shade vs sun for how the plants grow.

This is one of my favorite garden centers for both indoor and outdoor plants. They have a huge selection of pots, planters, and water features. The Gethsemane team is very helpful and knowledgeable. Make sure to pop into the Wild Pansy, which has a selection of seasonal decor as well as great home goods and gift items.

This is hands down my favorite garden center and plant shop in the city- truly a gem. They have a wide selection of plants and flowers, as well as a great variety of pots and garden accessories. All of their plants are healthy, without bugs or issue, and the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. I come here often for their own brand mix of soil so I can propagate and plant my spider plant babies. I have bought a few plants here that have thrived at my home- and I feel confident every time I purchase a plant here that it's been well maintained.
They even have an awesome gift shop full of artistic and festive home goods, jewelry, gifts, tableware, accessories, you name it. Gethsename is one of the most impressive garden centers in Chicago, and I HIGHLY recommend it for your garden and houseplant needs! Thank you! -
A slice of horticultural heaven! Everyone was super nice and enthusiastic about plants. And the selection was amazing. The conifer and Japanese maple collections were particularly outstanding. Great selection of air plants too!

The best plant shop in Chicago! Super friendly employees, amazing service, clean, unique plants and free easy parking highly recommend.

Love this place! I was looking for a small business to buy all my plant stuff and I'm glad someone recommended it to me. The staff is super nice and always willing to help.
-
Great options and easy to get around. Only complaint would be that staff can be rude and seemed to be really annoyed that I approached them to ask them a question, but that wasn't a huge deal.

I love Gethsemane! This year I came with an idea of what I wanted - a concept really - and was inspired by all the vibrant colors! Russell was absolutely amazing with helping me compose this gorgeous color scheme🤩🤩 I knew I was in good hands as we created my over-the-top planter ensemble.
No other garden center even comes close to the quality, selection, and helpful staff that put Gethsemane in a league of its own. -
Best store ever! I bought a large bonsai and the staff was super-attentive. My tree is thriving! Also, I just completed the kokedama class and it was amazing!

This place is incredible. Even if you’re not looking to purchase any plants, it’s just so much fun to wander around their beautiful shop and look at all the awesome plants. However, I can almost guarantee something is going to catch your eye and you won’t leave empty handed!
My personal experience here was excellent. Zach was our garden guide who approached us and asked if we had any questions and I wish I could have just rented him for the day so I could just listen to him talk about plants! He was unbelievably helpful and far exceeded any expectations of what customer service should entail.
At one point, the other staff even had some extra donuts on hand and offered them to us which is just a side note about how much fun we had just hanging out with their great employees.
If you are even remotely interested in plants in the slightest, just swing by and check this place out. It’s unreal and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. You might even find a new passion for plants like I just renewed! Also, check out my awesome little plants I just bought this time I went. Love them. -
Great garden center, the staff is always helpful and nice selection of items.
We always buy our Christmas tree here, but enjoy shopping here year round. -
Really magical experience here - my boyfriend and I went and an employee there came and asked us what our dream tree height was, we talked a bit and he set us up with the perfect tree within our budget - beyond grateful and I hope he knows his kindness made our month!

Tried a few other garden shops around the city and nothing compares to Gethsemane. They have the most helpful and knowledgeable employees, the healthiest plants, and a super wide variety. Regina has been the standout helping us but had nothing but good vibes all around from everyone!
The plants I bought here are by far the healthiest/happiest in my collection so I won’t be going anywhere else again.
Hopefully one day I’ll learn how to pronounce the name. -
👁 👄 👁 when I saw that greenhouse...
With the greenhouses in the conservatory in Lincoln Park closed, and other plant shops closed to in person shopping - I needed this.
This is a pretty huge showroom greenhouse with tons of selection in tropicals as well as cacti & succulents. They also have a real rarity - actual Bonsai stock and accessories.
I found not only wishlist plants here but also some amazing pots at a good price.
I’m so glad I came here, and I will keep coming back! They seem like an awesome local business 👍 -
Just laughable quality for the price. This is the second plant that was repotted with pieces of the original plastic still fused to the roots. Unbelievable prices for such poor quality.

This is my first time visiting this shop to look for a Christmas tree to decorate my home. I was very impressed upon arriving—there are plenty of Christmas trees to choose from, along with a wide variety of holiday decorations. The staff is incredibly attentive and provides excellent service. There’s also a section with decorative plants for the home, offering a great selection. If you’re looking for a good plant shop, I highly recommend this place!

I like plants. They got 'em. Knowledgeable staff who take the time to let you know each plant's care plan. There is almost too much stuff to sift through. The plant prices are reasonable. Some of the other stuff, fountains, planters, and incense, seems astronomical. 800 for a fountain, small plaster planter, 75, incense 15, while a larfe two panel wooden trellis is 35. Pick and choose what makes sense for you, and enjoy the great outdoors
