HVAC reviews in Chicago, Illinois

The service was abysmal. They charged $200 for a sales call, only to show up late when the part arrived. The woman taking calls insulted my wife, saying she'd been misled about the installation schedule. It's clear they don't value their customers' time or trustworthiness. Save yourself the hassle and go with someone who actually cares about your business.

I had a great experience with this company, from the initial call with Michelle to the installation of my steam boiler. She was incredibly helpful and provided all the necessary information I needed. The technicians were polite and explained everything thoroughly - especially considering my old building's unique requirements, they showed great care and consideration. They even cleaned up after themselves before leaving, which is more than most companies do. I'm extremely satisfied with their service, and I highly recommend them.

Unsatisfactory experience with this company.
When our AC stopped working, they told us a two-hour window on Friday between 10am and 2pm for the repair. However, by 2pm, nobody had shown up, and there were no updates from them. I called at 2:30 to inquire about the status, and was told I'd be next, but that it wouldn't take long. Despite calling a few more times, the same story kept being repeated. It wasn't until around 6pm that the technician finally arrived while we were having dinner with guests - inconveniently so.
The technician's initial assessment took only 15 minutes, but they determined that the problem was a ruined circuit board that needed to be replaced for $350 plus their hourly rate. Given the circumstances, it seems suspicious that they'd recommend replacing the circuit board when it wasn't necessary. The technician couldn't explain why the circuit board had failed in the first place, and I should have pressed them harder on this point since they're supposed to be experts.
The replacement circuit board wasn't available, so the technician came back a week later to replace it. What was initially expected to take 15 minutes ended up taking an hour and a half due to a mistaken assumption about the thermostat wiring - which was correct all along. As of now, I've spent $700 on repairs.
Unfortunately, the AC stopped working again less than 24 hours later. Another technician came to fix it, and they discovered that the problem was actually a short in the 24-volt wire running to the condenser. They applied a temporary fix, which means I've effectively paid for some wire nuts and electrical tape at this point. To make matters worse, they said they'd send someone out to run a new wire as a long-term fix.
I had an appointment scheduled but had to reschedule it after being asked to wait a week due to emergency AC repairs. Although I was willing to accommodate this request since we still had working AC, I felt taken advantage of when I called back to set up a replacement appointment and asked them to confirm that this would be free since they'd previously failed to diagnose and perform the work correctly.
The representative told me that no, they'd have to charge for this service, at least $150. At this point, I'm done with them - not worth the hassle or time. It's unclear whether their incompetence is due to a lack of expertise in diagnosis or if there's malicious intent involved. Whatever the reason, I've wasted money on an unnecessary circuit board replacement and will need to hire someone else to fix the short-term fix.
It's challenging to find reliable, honest contractors - keep looking elsewhere! Sorry to say that Reeder isn't worth the time or money. -
The company is now part of a different entity called Perfect Home Services, which can be found on their outdated website. They managed to redirect my initial appointment request to themselves, making it feel like a fake attempt to keep customers loyal rather than a genuine service.

After waiting weeks for the job to be done, I followed up multiple times to ensure it was completed. Unfortunately, the service provider failed to show up and didn't call to notify me. When I inquired about the status after a four-hour wait following our scheduled appointment, I was told they had called me but left no message - I have no record of any missed calls or messages. Save your time, as this company doesn't follow through on their promises.
-
I tried to get my A/C unit serviced, but no one showed up at the scheduled appointment. I called again and was supposed to see an emergency technician, but they never followed through on that either. When I called for a final time, I was more concerned with the lack of service than parking issues caused by the Cubs game - it seemed like their priority. The price quote was steep too: $89.95 to start, plus $80 an hour after that, and even higher at $155 an hour after 5pm. Now Four Seasons is sending a technician out tonight for just $85 flat fee with no extra charges or hourly rates. Avoid this company - don't waste your time calling them.

We would advise others to steer clear of Reeder Heating & Cooling. We hired them to install a humidification system in one of our clients' homes, but it malfunctioned within a month, leaking from the water feedline. Despite multiple attempts to contact Reeder, we had to wait weeks to get anyone's attention, and even then, no one ever answered the phone or responded to our messages.
Eventually, we managed to reach the owner, who resolved the issue promptly. However, the problem persisted when our client called us, saying the humidifier was making excessive noise. Reeder initially claimed that the issues were caused by a faulty motor, but refused to replace it and instead suggested contacting the manufacturer directly.
We ended up hiring another vendor to fix the job, which proved more effective but came with an additional $468 cost. The experience left us unimpressed with Reeder's customer service – they seem uninformed about their own products and services. We have no hesitation in saying that we will not use them again and would caution others to do the same. -
Reeder recently replaced our old heating and cooling system in our row home, and the experience was exceptional. After researching and comparing prices from multiple companies, including Home Depot, we found Reeder to be competitively priced - if not slightly lower. What really set us apart, however, was the outstanding customer service provided by Gene, the owner.
Gene's professionalism, honesty, and responsiveness were impressive - he returned our calls promptly and followed up on everything. We had a unique installation situation that required special ordering an AC unit for a tricky space, and Gene took it upon himself to offer detailed options and solutions. The three technicians who installed our system worked efficiently and effectively, completing the job in just one day.
In short, Reeder delivered top-notch service without any hassle or fuss. If you're looking for a reliable and hassle-free heating and cooling solution, we highly recommend them. -
I initially called the company to have my old air conditioner/heater unit repaired after 30 years of service. I had purchased the unit from Reeder in the past and was hoping they could fix it. The representative, Rebecca, scheduled an appointment for the following Monday between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. in February.
When the technician arrived at my home on time, he asked about my furnace, but I explained that the real issue was with the old air conditioner/heater unit. He took one look at it and told me they don't repair those units, only replace them. The cost for replacement would be $89.99.
I pointed out to him that Rebecca should have informed me of this policy during our phone conversation, as I had explained the situation to her. The technician seemed apologetic, saying she was probably busy and got the orders mixed up. He offered to replace my old unit, but warned that the service call fee would be applied to the replacement cost.
I agreed to the deal and the technician took measurements of the old unit before leaving. A few days later, I received a call with a quote for a new Friedrich air conditioner/heater unit, priced at $1,995.00. This seemed excessive considering the price of similar units on the market was significantly lower - around three-quarters less expensive.
I told the representative that the quoted unit was too costly and he promised to follow up with some alternative solutions. However, I haven't heard from him since. In contrast, I recently purchased a Friedrich air conditioner/heater unit in the area for a much lower price than what he quoted me.
To sum it up, Rebecca's company failed to deliver on their promise of repairing my old unit and instead charged me a service fee that would be applied to the replacement cost. This lack of transparency and follow-through has led me to take my business elsewhere when I need to replace my Utica boiler at year-end. -
I'm extremely disappointed with this company. I booked a furnace cleaning service at short notice, expecting a time frame of 1-5 PM. However, when I called at 2:40 PM, the technician's arrival time was still uncertain, and I was left waiting for over an hour. The promised call 30 minutes before their arrival never materialized.
I tried to follow up with multiple calls, but the phone stopped being answered around 5 PM, leaving me stranded until 6:15 PM when I had to leave the area. The next day, I called to express my frustration and explained the situation to the manager, Michelle. Unfortunately, she displayed a terrible attitude and seemed unapologetic about the inconvenience.
When I politely mentioned that it was inconsiderate of them not to call or update me on their schedule, her responses became increasingly dismissive. She repeated phrases like "I'm sorry" without any sincerity, and claimed they didn't want to do late-night cleanings. When I asked if she could do anything to rectify the situation, she offered to reschedule – a gesture that felt hollow given her earlier attitude.
The fact that this company is referral-based makes me extremely wary of using them for my heating needs. Their apparent disregard for customer time and satisfaction is appalling. I will never use them again and would advise others to steer clear as well. -
I've had nothing but great experiences with Reeder for all my heating and air needs. They consistently deliver on their promises. When I needed a motor replaced in my furnace quickly, they got it done without missing a beat. Their professionalism is spot-on, from arrival time to thorough explanations. Plus, they were more affordable than the competition. Their staff is also super friendly and a pleasure to work with – can't recommend them highly enough!

We recently needed a new furnace installed after ours gave out last week. We chose Reeder based on good recommendations. The whole process went smoothly, from getting an estimate to completion - the staff provided decent customer service, the technicians turned up promptly and got the job done well.

I had a water heater go out with the gas control unit not functioning, and luckily it was still under warranty. The water heater company recommended Reeder for repairs.
I called Reeder and they quoted me $90 to diagnose the issue and $100 an hour for labor. I wasn't thrilled about the price, but I was willing to work around it. The gas control unit itself costs around $250, so it all worked out in the end.
The repair technician, Mike, showed up at 1:45 PM and claimed he tested the power to the gas control unit. He spent 30 minutes on the phone with the water heater company, chatting about YouTube tutorials for replacing parts, before finally getting off the line at 2:12 PM. He told me the pressure valve needed to be replaced and would return Monday or Tuesday (it was actually Friday) to do the job in under 15 minutes.
I got billed for a full 30 minutes of labor plus the diagnosis fee, even though Mike said it would take less than that to replace the pressure valve. I called Reeder on Tuesday and they claimed Mike had told me to order the part myself, but I never received such a call.
The next day, Wednesday passed without any updates from Reeder. On Thursday, I called them again and was told that Mike had indeed asked me to order the part. It seemed like he'd been playing me all along.
I decided to take matters into my own hands and ordered the part overnight. After watching a YouTube tutorial on how to swap out the pressure valve (thanks, Mike), I found it was actually much simpler than expected. However, the new part turned out to be a whole blower assembly, which required disassembling the vent pipes.
To make matters worse, the blower assembly had been seized onto the top of the tank. I managed to remove and replace just the pressure valve, but plugged everything back in and it still wouldn't turn on.
I called the water heater company again and explained all the symptoms. They told me that if there were no LEDs lit on the gas control valve, it meant the valve had to be replaced. Luckily, they overnighted a new one with no shipping charge this time.
After watching another YouTube video (thanks, Mike), I swapped out the gas control valve and plugged everything back in. To my surprise, it worked. The whole experience left a sour taste in my mouth due to overcharging for labor, lack of communication, misdiagnosis, and unnecessary delays. -
I hired them last year to put in a new HVAC system and they were a breeze to deal with - showed up on time, quoted fairly, and even gave me some options to choose from. When my apartment started leaking water in the utility closet, I thought it was a plumbing issue, but they still sent someone out to take a look. They found the problem and walked me through what needed fixing, were super helpful, and tried to fix it with their tools, even though it wasn't related to the HVAC system. We've got the whole building on this service, so everyone's happy with them. The office crew was top-notch - Michelle was a great help behind the scenes, and Derek showed up right on time for our service visit.

We've worked with this company multiple times and can attest that they back up their work. After installing our furnace, they came back outside the warranty period to fix an issue. The technicians, David and Tim, were a pleasure in my home. Gene, the owner, genuinely prioritizes getting it done right. We also had them install a water heater and humidifier - both experiences left us satisfied with their work, customer service, and overall professionalism.

I'm extremely disappointed with my experience with this home services business. When my AC issue needed attention, I was sent a technician who came out for a diagnosis in under 30 minutes. The technician informed me that the circuit board needed replacement, but told me someone from the office would need to contact me about pricing and scheduling. I waited until July to receive an unexpected invoice for $130, which included both service call and labor costs, even though no actual work was done.
In the meantime, I was able to troubleshoot the issue with my Nest device, discovering that the circuit board wasn't the problem after all. When I brought this to Reeder Heating's attention, I was met with a dismissive response from an office representative who told me I needed to speak with someone else about the matter.
However, when I spoke with another employee, we agreed that I should only pay for the service call and not the labor charge since the diagnosis was incorrect. Unfortunately, the situation escalated when Carolyn, the collections representative, began pushing me for my credit card information despite our agreement on a reduced amount of $89. She became increasingly confrontational and refused to accept the payment method I preferred.
I'm extremely dissatisfied with this experience and would not recommend this company to anyone due to their poor communication, lack of transparency, and aggressive collections tactics. -
Here's a rewritten version of the customer review:
I'm thrilled to upgrade my initial rating from one star to five stars after an exceptional experience with Reeder Heating and Cooling. My first visit didn't go as planned - the technician couldn't find anything wrong with my furnace, despite it constantly malfunctioning at odd hours. The next day, I called back and spoke with David, the supervisor, who listened attentively and promised a same-day fix. Another technician, Brian, arrived promptly and took the time to carefully examine the furnace. He explained everything in detail and made small talk - a refreshing change from the previous experience.
Brian's diagnosis and repairs were prompt and efficient. The follow-up work was handled by Gene, who was incredibly nice and generous with his time. What impressed me most was that Reeder Heating and Cooling offered to cover the initial issue for free as a gesture of goodwill.
What initially left a bad taste in my mouth has turned into an overwhelmingly positive experience. I'm now eager to use their services for future repairs and installations, and I highly recommend giving them a call. In my opinion, Reeder Heating and Cooling stands out as one of the best small companies I've encountered - kudos to their customer service and dedication to resolving issues! -
I had a great experience with Reeder Heating and Cooling, particularly with their recent installations of my air conditioning unit in May and furnace in December. The entire process was well-coordinated and carried out with professionalism from start to finish. From initial phone support to follow-up visits, the team made sure everything ran smoothly.
The technician who visited my house, as well as the office staff, were courteous and efficient. They went above and beyond to accommodate my schedule, ensuring that the installations didn't conflict with my work commitments. The installation team consisted of knowledgeable and skilled technicians who took the time to address any concerns I had about the equipment.
Overall, Reeder Heating and Cooling's business model is top-notch, offering excellent customer service and a reliable product. -
This company delivered top-notch service from start to finish. As a frequent collaborator with real estate agents, I've come across several reputable contractors, but Gene and Reeder Heating stood out.
After gathering quotes from other recommended companies, I was impressed by the consistency of their responses, yet Gene's team offered a more personalized approach that aligned with my needs. Their competitive pricing, combined with Gene's professionalism and attention to detail, made them the clear choice for replacing my old furnace and AC unit.
I deliberately waited until their peak season ended to minimize any potential delays, as I knew it would be busier during the high/low temperatures or at the start of each season. The wait was worth it, though - the Reeder crew arrived on schedule and completed the installation within a single day.
Throughout the process, I encountered courteous and professional technicians who kept me informed about their progress. Before departing, they provided a thorough explanation of the work done and recommended maintenance steps going forward. They even left the work area spotless, as if they had never been there.
Overall, I'm thoroughly satisfied with the service provided by this company. Their next visit for my yearly maintenance call can't come soon enough. -
They're part of a bigger company now. I called for an annual maintenance quote on my tankless water heater and was directed to press 1 to speak with a live person. Instead, I got automated system that booked a $59 appointment, which doesn't even include the initial assessment - no other prices were discussed.

The team from Aircor gave me confidence in their work. They arrived quickly, broke down complex tasks into easy-to-understand explanations, and made sure I was comfortable with each step. Their professionalism left a lasting impression – I've since recommended them to others.
