I had a terrible experience with this company today. My heat isn't working, so I called to have someone come out and take a look. The guy who came out was nice enough, but he gave me an estimate of $816 and said he had to go make a call to see if he could get the part. When he came back, the estimate had increased to over $1,200! When I asked how much the part is, to see why the estimate went up by over $400, he said he couldn't disclose that information. WHAT?!? The lack of transparency is a problem, I felt like I was being lied to, and I decided not to have him do the repair. That was when I was told about the $98 "trip fee." I know there are contractors who charge a fee to do an estimate, but the customer needs to be told about the fee BEFORE they agree to the appointment. I paid the guy, and then I called to talk to the owner about it (Tim). He apologized, but said he didn't know what I wanted him to do. He said if I could tell him ONE contractor who doesn't charge a fee to do an estimate, he would give me my $98 back. I told him we had a contractor come out to work on our bathroom and he didn't charge a fee to do estimates. But he still wouldn't reimburse me. He argued with me until he abruptly hung up.

So I called a different HVAC company, and over the phone he asked for my furnace details, looked up the parts he would need, and gave me an estimate of $765, to do the same job (no estimate fee). He also shared the breakout of the parts and labor costs with me.

I don't have an extra hundred dollars laying around, so having to pay that undisclosed "trip fee" does set me back on getting my heat fixed. Thankfully, I have space heaters to keep me warm, but I'm definitely hiring the OTHER company for the job, for obvious reasons.

Edit: After reading the response from the company, I had to edit my review because they're lying AGAIN. This was NOT an emergency same-day call. This was an appointment made in advance. And the problem wasn't that the "information was not understood." The problem was that the information WAS NEVER DISCLOSED.

Be leery of hiring this company. If they screw up, they'll just blame you.
