Appel employee called before arriving and was on time. Completed yearly maintenance service as expected. He was courteous and efficient.

Appel kept me from having to buy a new furnace, because another company was trying to scam me. I highly recommend them for your repair needs!! Thank you Otis & Jeff

Working with Appel was amazing. Very professional. I had a quote on Tuesday and a whole new HVAC system by Friday afternoon.

We had a very old system replaced in 2021. The installation went great. Although it is not 'fun' to pay for the service plan, it is a reasonable ongoing investment to keep your equipment functioning. I'm amazed at how much debris an AC unit screens in a single year! Appel has always been punctual and courteous. While they do offer promotions, they don't feel too pushy trying to always sell you something else. We have been pleased!

Showed up on time, very knowledgeable and communicated well with what he was doing. I recommend Appel and Otis, who was my technician that came out.

I have used Appel more than once and have spent well over $6000 with them. I had them install a new radiant heat system in an addition for me, they have replaced literally every part on my furnace, and I have had them do normal service calls for maintenance. I have always been happy with their work until this time.
I will start by saying this review is not based on any one individual.
I originally called them on July 15th because my Expansion Tank for the boiler developed a hole in the side of the tank (not on any seam or connection point...literally a hole appeared straight through the metal wall) and was spraying water everywhere. On that call I was asked to send them a video after I described the situation. I sent it and he called back a couple of minutes later and stated (almost verbatim) "I have never seen anything like that and neither has the tech I showed it to". He then told me that the part was still under warranty and he would call back to let me know what would be done. I never got a call back.
On October 20th I finally had enough of waiting and called them again. This time a woman answered, I explained the situation and she had no personal knowledge of that first call so she stated she would call me back once she got more information from their files. She called back within the hour and stated that she had found the video I sent it and watched it and that she showed it to another tech but there was no other notation on my file. She then stated the first available appointment was on the 29th (today). I was then told that they would first send a tech to diagnose the issue then return the next day to do the work. I told her that was an unnecessary step as 3 people had already viewed the video and it was clear that there was a hole and water was shooting out of it. She said that was their process and they would have to first diagnose the issue. I told her fine, send the tech but ALSO to go ahead and bring a new expansion tank as the tech would obviously see what the video shows.
The tech arrived today (also a great guy and very nice) and saw the hole, I then showed him the video and then he states "why didn't they send the tank with me" to which I responded that I had no idea. He immediately went to call his manager, we waited 10 minutes and the manager did not call back, so then the tech said he would try again. The tech then mentioned that the manager did not call but did send a text. The tech then told me that someone would call me back later today to discuss next steps. The tech then mentioned that there was a $100 service fee I had to pay. I told him I would not be paying at that exact moment and that I would gladly explain to the manager when he or she called me.
A manager did call me at 5:29pm and the first thing he said was that the service fee was still due. After explaining everything to him (that I have just written here) and that I would not pay that fee as at least 3 different people in that company had viewed the video I sent them and that the tech didn't diagnose anything today his response was that it was "better if we no longer did business together" so basically fired me as a customer. I asked him if he thought it was acceptable for a company to not reach out to a long time customer for over 3 months and he did admit that was not good service. I then asked why they would not have sent out a replacement tank to do the work (that was obvious to all who had seen the video and to the tech that arrived today) and he stated it was because often times a customer is wrong about the problem and they do not want to purchase parts and then "get stuck with them" (his exact words). That is a valid explanation but I know I am not the only person in Indianapolis with a boiler system that might need a new tank. I looked up the price of this tank and it is $45. Even if there had been another issue with my boiler aside from the tank it was obvious that the tank was defective and would have to be replaced. Poor Customer Service this time.

I have been using Appel for almost six years now. They installed our new HVAC system when our old one went out and have done any routine maintenance throughout the years. They never try and upsell and all the technicians are friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend them to anyone.

Appel was quick to respond when we requested a quote. They came out in under a week for a non-emergency quote and were able to schedule the work a week after we got the quote. They also were the cheapest in the area by a wide margin on a full hvac replacement. Will be using them for all my HVAC needs going forward.

Technician was very pleasant, efficient, timely and explained everything he did, what items he checked and what he found. Our furnace working properly. One of the best technicians we have had the privilege to interact with.

We have been w Appel for 30 + yrs. The office staff are so caring & genuinely helpful. The technical maintanence and service guys are very knowledgeable and have never tried to upsell us. We have our favorite we always ask for but dont want to share him...LOL We're retired and appreciate their honest approach as they do their best to keep our older HVAC system running smoothly. So far, so good..!

Awesome work from Nate and his team. We have been struggling to get our large room space comfortable enough. They added a split unit that is going to make this area very comfortable during the extreme weather months.

They got everything installed and up and running, in just a few hours!!

Definitely the company to call for heat or air conditioning.

We have been customers since 2009. Appel has provided consistent, excellent service over the years. Their technicians, customer support, scheduling, sales. Just outstanding from top to bottom. A family owned business with a focus on the customer.

I have had an off-season maintenance plan with Appel for many years. When we moved from Westfield to Greenfield in 2021, we brought Appel along. The maintenance plan ensures that we will get the best performance and life from our equipment. Appel has always been locally owned and very reliable. I highly recommend Appel. They served us well in Westfield and now in Greenfield!

I was ready to purchase a new furnace based on information from other HVAC companies. I appreciate the advice from Jeff in the office and the diagnostic testing done by Otis to assure me that my furnace is just fine and didn't need expensive repairs or a new furnace. I highly recommend Appel for their excellent customer service and work.

These folks had a very difficult job on a very old home gas/boiler system. The followup and work detail was on point! We're definitely having them to do our AC this spring. Affordable and top notch service.

Joe is always great to work with. He has been to our house enough that he knows where things are located and is very efficient and friendly.

We pay annually for two visits to run maintenance checks on our furnace and AC.

Unfortunately we have had an incredibly poor experience with Appel with regards to customer service since our unit was installed.

Got a new unit from Appel in March 2025. In early December, the brand new heat pump went out. Technician came, diagnosed the issue, and said they would be in contact with regards to getting it fixed. No one called for 3 days. I finally called and was told a part needed to be ordered and it would take 4-6 weeks. Every time over the next 4-6 weeks I asked to be updated (given it was the coldest months of the year), rarely did anyone call when we were told we would receive a call. It was constantly us having to follow up on reception telling us that someone would call.

The part finally came in at exactly 6 weeks (after my wife was told they were able to find the part from a different supplier). However, this created new issues and our heat pump continued to not work. A few days later, another technician came out to check out the issue, said another part was needed. It was at that point I asked if the technician would advocate for us to the main office - since the technicians have bene fantastic and I just needed someone to communicate with us and. He told me that someone would call the next day (Tuesday) to communicate next steps. Tuesday came with no call, so I finally called at 4:30pm and was assured that someone would call me that day to provide next steps. No call.

I called then around lunch Wednesday to follow up and asked to talk to speak to someone else, since most everyone to that point who was supposed to call never did. I was told the GM would call later that day. That did not happen (though someone did call to communicate that something came up which I understood and appreciated being communicated with). I was assured I would receive a call Thursday. Thursday came, again no call. I called Friday morning and was told the GM was out for the day. I expressed to the person I spoke with how frustrating it was that no one would follow through on communication, or give us updates, or act like they cared. That person said they would make sure I was contacted when he returned and would personally follow up by the end of the day with updates because they cared. And again, no call back.

The next week came and went with no call from the GM. I reached out to my sales rep expressing how frustrating this has been and was told now by a 3rd person that manager would contact me. We are coming up now on 2 weeks and being told by 3 different people that I would get a call by someone higher up and still nothing.

In the meantime - after 8 weeks during the 2 coldest months of the year, I’m finally getting to use my less-than-1-year-old heat pump. And this is thanks to the technicians, who have been incredibly helpful through this and the only ones keeping me sane throughout dealing with this. And the manufacturer is (supposedly) offering some sort of compensation for electric heat.

But not even receiving any sort of “We’re sorry for not following through time and time again when we say we will call you” or “We’re sorry you can’t use your new unit and we are doing all we can to help” makes me feel like this level of customer service is just par for the course.

We’ve been customers of Appel for many years. During this recent winter storm our old furnace went out. Appel responded quickly to get us a new, upgraded furnace set up and running. They are great to work with!

I gave a 5-start review based on my near 10-year experience with this company for my old house and my current house. The staff has been very friendly, and the business is very good to deal with. Because of all those years of experience, a small mistake can be forgiven so I decided to still give 5 stars while expressing my disappointment. I had a regular maintenance on December 3rd of 2025, and the technician mentioned the filter should be replaced. He said the filter would arrive "in a few days", and thus he removed the old filters and threw them away. Later that day, I got a call from the office with quotes, and I proceeded. I was told the "filter would arrive in 3 or 4 days; and once it arrived, we will give you a call and a technician will go to your house to put it in." Nothing happened so I made a call on December 11th and said I understand if there is some delay so I just want to check the status. I was told, on December 11th, that the part has not arrived and I will get a call when it arrives. I said thank you. Nothing happened so I made a call again on December 26th, asking about it. I was told the part has arrived and was asked if I will come to pick it up. I was like "what? You said I will get a call when it arrives and a technician will come to put it in. Nobody called me." The lady has been very helpful and scheduled a visit on December 31st for a technician to put it in. To clarify, the technician and the staff in office have been very nice and professional. I guess there is some miscommunication along the process. The technician on December 3rd assured me that it "won't take a few weeks", well now my furnace would be running without all filters for 4 weeks between the service and the filter installation.

The technician Mike arrived on schedule, he had modern service equipment, and was very knowledgeable about the HVAC equipment being serviced. He was very thorough and communicated clearly with me on his findings and my options. He repaired my system to good working order.

Appel was able to schedule me in and not have to wait for weeks to obtain service. The pricing was fair and presented up front when I called to schedule the appointment. I will be doing business with them again.
