I had my house (Lebanon, IN) roof done by Jackson Contracting in 2018 and the company was wonderful to work with and had the lowest of 7 estimates. I got in touch with the company and found out that Universal Roofing bought them for their metal roof business. So, I got in touch with Chris Tillery the Sales Manager that is so sweet, cares about his customers and great work ethic. The roofers were amazing, quick, and respectful to my priority. The gutter company A&F Gutters were so quick, and their workmanship is awesome. It was great that Christian took his time to explain about the new gutters that were installed. If you are looking to get a new roof, check out your roof for storm damage or just to get information then call Universal Roofing. Since this is my first house, I made sure to do my research and would use Universal Roofing (Chris Tillery) on my future houses. Chris helped me get insurance money to pay for the new garage roof and gutters. My house roof stood up to the Hail damage that came through and just reassured me of the workmanship of Universal Roofing/Jackson Contracting. 😊 Edie C

I will never hire this company again.

1. They did not communicate at all about when they would perform the work after giving us the quote. I reached out several times with no response and eventually they just showed up unannounced with a work crew.
2. When they were done, tar was dripping all over the edge of the flat roof and there was no metal counter flashing installed. They also left several trash bags full of junk behind as well as several rolls of unused material. The job looked so bad and there was so much left behind that I assumed they weren't done, then we received an invoice (once again with no communication).
3. I had them come back and remove the trash, but they still left behind several handfuls of screws loose in our drive way that I had to pick up, which could have easily popped tires.
4. I had to pester them for over a week and a half to get someone to come back out and chip the tar off the sides of the roof and install the metal counter flashing. They kept saying someone would be here, and no one would show up.

This was the worst experience with a contracting company that I have ever had. It looks acceptable now, but not great. I paid them because I was tired of dealing with them, and will never use them again.

Highly recommend! After buying our first house, we worked with Universal on a few small projects to squeeze the last bit of life out of the previous roof. Our previous experience was terrific, so when the time came for a replacement, we stuck with them. From ownership on down, everybody we have interacted with from their organization has made us feel closer than customers. They are timely and considerate, they get to know you, and they make sure that your needs are met :)

I am happy with the new roof, gutters and downspouts. Both crews are very friendly and did their best respecting our property and cleaning up after.

Bads:

-Communication.
-Follow-up.

Examples:

-Roofing crew showed up and proceeded to climb onto the roof to work, without speaking with me first. I did know they were coming so I went outside to confirm they are with Universal Roofing. I wished someone spoke to me on-site day of before work started.
-Gutter crew showed up and I was not informed what day or time they were coming. I had to call company rep #1 to confirm they are with this company.
-During the roof build, a different company rep contacted me about a change order. I was not notified that a 2nd rep would take over at any time.
-I requested their crew to inspect a substandard repair job by Showtime Roofing. They did not inform me anything about it until I asked them about it.
-I had to ask rep #1 for an invoice. I wish they sent me one without me having to ask.

Overall I am happy, but the communication and follow-up could have been better.

I am extremely happy with the work completed for me by Universal Roofing and Exteriors. The work included new siding installation, repair of rotting sections of wood, and painting. I worked with Gary as my sales representative, and he was extremely helpful throughout the entire process. Crystal was very helpful when scheduling my work, as well. After a fairly long period of backorder by the manufacturer, Crystal was able to squeeze my work in during a few nice days this winter. The crew that completed my work was very efficient and skilled, and the supervisor (I believe his name was James) was extremely professional and explained everything very well (including the additional rotting wood that needed replaced). I was extremely impressed with James taking care of some accidental damage on my ceiling inside, which happened due to accidental dropping of a hammer. I assumed it was incidental damage, however James brought it to my attention and had it promptly fixed. You can't tell there was ever a hole in my popcorn ceiling now because the drywall man did a wonderful job! The painters also did a phenomenal job painting the trim, existing siding on my sunroom, and doors. I am overall very happy with the work, and would recommend Gary and Universal Roofing & Exteriors to everyone!

I was referred to Universal by a friend and fellow customer and found them to be responsive, professional and thorough. Their crews worked very long hours on our home and the result was excellent. I also appreciated the communication with our foreman during the project. In a time where quality work seems to be a diminishing attribute, I am happy to endorse Universal and their services.

The company was quick to respond to our situation, the employees were excellent at their jobs and friendly to boot. The new roof and gutters they installed looks awesome and are performing well. The roof repair also looks great and they suggested and added soffit venting that we didn’t even know we needed; makes sense to keep it ventilated and dry.
We would highly recommend Universal to anyone needing quality work.

The whole process had a strong start. Our salesperson Chris was excellent. They were thorough in guiding us and answering our questions. From there we had a slight hiccup in communication with the operations side but that was remedied and then the roof project began. They got our roof replaced and everything else on the list and we had no problems after that. They were quick to use up the good weather we had available in December. All in all happy with the experience.
Final note: our roof was part of an insurance claim but we did choose our own contractor.

I was referred to Universal Roofing and Exterior by a family member. I visited their Website and was impressed how this Family owned company gave back to our Community! I had my roof replaced. I know what a "bad" Roofing Co experience is- I was able to escape their clutches! My experience with Universal Roofing was Top notch! The crew assigned did a great job with the exception of not protecting my plants. The supervisor of Universal Roofing documented the damage, I'm expecting some compensation for that; otherwise I am very satisfied with the results. You will not be disappointed with this company. Couldn't thank Universal Roofing & Exteriors enough for the amazing job they did on my parents roof. We have a pretty tall 2 story house in Carmel and the house was a little over 15 years old and it was time for a new roof for sure. We met with Rob Yeary to have everything checked out and we didn't feel pressured at all to have to buy a new roof. Rob made us feel like family, taking the time to meet with us, let us ask ALL the questions we could think of, and took the time to answer all of them. After getting a plan, we not only got a new roof - but we went with some custom copper work around the tops of our roof to give it an even better look. Universal's team came out, they didn't leave ANY mess at all and even protected all of our plants and trees. You would have never even known they were there... and the roof was AMAZING! We have contracted with Universal Roofing several times and have been very pleased with the work they did for us including roof repair, gutter guard and sky light installations. Their teams are courteous, skilled and respectful of property.

I first used Universal Roofing to inspect my roof twice a year and make repairs when needed. When the roof was 18 years old, I decided to replace the roof and Universal did the work. I also had Universal replace the gutter guards. I have been very happy with their work.

I had them come out to do windows on the house just two of them. Initially they were very professional and seem to understand what they were doing. When the windows came in they took the old ones out and went to install the new ones. I asked multiple times why the window looks so much smaller or why there was such a big gap on top and on the sides of the window. They told me that was normal installation and that they would fill in the gaps and he wouldn’t even know the difference. Clearly you can tell and we also don’t have a lot of windows for natural light so every inch mattered. After multiple conversations with the person installing the windows who said had 20+ years of experience and then also reaching out to the person ordered the windows they both said that this was normal installation. After that I sent pictures to a couple of friends in construction and my dad and brother who all stated that the windows were the wrong size and that they need to fix it and put new windows in. So I had them remeasure the old windows and then I asked the guy that ordered the windows what the measurements were that he ordered and they were off after that he finally admitted the mistake and re-ordered the windows and put them on a stat order. Once the new windows came in the guy with 20 years experience set out in the truck for most of the installation. I also had my father come out to make sure that they install the windows correctly. He had to make a few suggestions when they were installing them and then they try to explain what they were doing and my dad told them I’ve been doing this for 50+ years so they stopped arguing.

I will give them credit for fixing their mistakes. They also installed a piece of the siding in the wrong spot which they came back out to fix. Also one of the weatherstrip on the window was ripped and they came out twice to fix it. I will give them credit for doing the extra work to fix the problems but a lot of the problems or self inflicted by not owning up to the wrong size windows. The fact that they try to install the wrong size windows for over four hours before I told them to order the right windows makes me question their ability to install windows properly or to address if there is any issues with installation
