Landscaping reviews in Olathe, Kansas

After having a bad experience with TruGreen not showing up as scheduled last year, we decided to try Brown Brothers this year. Unfortunately, we had a similar issue with scheduling to the point that we have now been waiting over a month from initial schedule for the latest lawn treatment. Our lawn is currently overrun with broadleaf weeds. We have finally cancelled and are going to do the work ourselves. We did get responses and communication was professional from Brown Brothers, but the lack of execution was disappointing. I suspect we are not a major customer as we just have lawn treatment, so they likely prioritize bigger customers.

I used Brown Brothers Lawn Care for mowing my yard. These guys did an amazing job. They worked as a team of 2 one mowed the other used the weed eater to trim my side walk and drive way. They always cleaned up any grass that was on the sidewalk and driveway. The guys always made sure my gate was closes before leaving, so my fur baby did get out. I would refer this company to all my friends. Thank you guys for doing such an amazing job.

We have used Brown Brothers for multiple years and could not think more highly of their services! They do a quick, great job and the owners are extremely quick to respond to get you set up and if you ever have any questions. They have even expanded their services which is great because this is a company you can rely on. We will continue to use and recommend them as long as we live in the areas they service!

I love these guys! We had problems with our previous lawn mowing service as they repeatedly left the gate open and our puppy got out more than once (thankfully we have great neighbors!). We found Brown Brothers' in a flier and I found the service easy to use. Eddie quickly sent me a quote and worked with me on pricing and services. He has always been responsive, even when our little escape artist managed to take advantage of the open gate once again. Rather than blaming it on us for having a dog he reinforced that he would work with the mowers on the situation and asked for a photo of her so they could make sure to keep her in the yard if she tried again. I love the ease of their online billing and automatic payments and feel their customer service is top notch! Try them out if you're looking for lawn care that takes a technology approach.

We first noticed the well maintained appearance of our neighbors lawn. It was always cut and trimmed in a very professional manner. We started using the Brown Brothers service in the spring of 2020, and we were very pleased. They showed up when expected, as well as altered their schedule for us a couple of times, when we were having things done on our property. They always responded back to texts and emails promptly, and they have a very easy way to pay your bill monthly. I would definitely recommend these young men if you are in need of a lawn service.

Edited to add:
Original review was left in January of 2022. Brown Brothers did not bother to respond to the original review until July 2022. The original invoice they submitted was incorrect with the wrong crew size and hours. Eddie did not believe me until i sent pictures of when they arrived and explained that there was only two people and not three. Then he miraculously was able to verify the information with his crew leader. After that he continued to harass me asking me to change my review - which I will not. Regardless of how nice my lawn looked I cannot overlook the unprofessional behavior of the owners of the company.
Response from 7/19: Please feel free to reach out directly to myself as well for all 44 messages between Eddie and I for the full email conversation as they mention below. I was called heartless, slanderous, shameful and was told that money had corrupted my views. I asked repeatedly for Eddie (the owner) to stop emailing me however he chose to disregard the request. The crews DID do an amazing job on the yard. It looked fantastic. But the price gouging, late billing and obsessive behavior of the owner was what earned them one star.
These guys under quote work to show up on site then price gouge. I received a quote for fall lawn removal for $140 plus cost to remove the waste ($70) - which was reasonable for the sized yard we have. I agreed to the quote and arranged for them to come out the first week of December. . Almost a month after the service was performed I received a bill for $490. When I sent an email requesting an explanation I was told that the price was accurate and they charge by the hour if they go over. The price they quoted was NOT an quote for my property but a base price for the service. What can I say - they got me. Don’t let them get you too. -
This company is always on it and does a great job with any lawn care needs!

In 2021 I requested an irrigation system installation quote but never heard back from Brown Bothers Lawn Care, however got on their email newsletter. In 2024 I decided to give them a second chance and request the installation of the irrigation system again. This time I also requested lawn fertilization service as well. They were prompt to reply back to the fertilization service but wanted to set up an appointment to meet in-person and see the property for irrigation. The day came and I received a call 10 minutes after the appointment claiming they can make the determination using satellite imaging and didn't need to meet me in-person. Well, why didn't you mention this earlier? Disclaimer, this is the same satellite imaging they claim to have used to provide me with the requested fertilization service; which was reasonably priced (hence, the only reason I am giving them 2 stars in the review) It has been 3 weeks now and not a word back from them about the irrigation quote. There's no reason to accept the fertilization quote since this is, in my opinion, poor business conduct for prospective customers. Show me that you care to get my business. I believe my money is as good to others as it is to you!
Please continue reading (response to Brown Brothers' reply)
Update as of 8/15/2024. Google should not take down the review because I am speaking the facts. Your irrigation quote came immediately ONLY AFTER my review posted. This is, in my opinion, a knee-jerk reaction since plenty of time had passed from initially requesting the quote and 3 weeks after being stood up for an "in-person visit for an estimate". It also took you 4 months to comment on my review. Yes, I didn't do business with them but it is because of their poor business conduct and others should know this as prospective customers. Dealing with this company is a waste of time! -
After my lawnmower kicked the bucket I was in need of someone to maintain my lawn for the summer last year. After doing some research I came across Brown Bros and I'm really happy I did. They responded immediately and were out a couple of days later to take care of my lawn.
Not going to lie I got very spoiled with having them around, but all good things come to an end unfortunately. I highly recommend their services as they are very professional, courteous and do a great job. I'll be sure to look them up if I'm ever in need of their services again.
Great work guys!! -
Clearly the worst service experience of any kind!! After I accepted service contract, I could not get a return phone call or text when the services I paid for were not rendered. I was finally able to talk to the owner ONLY after I got his lawn service guys that were mowing my lawn to call him on their phone because he would not return phone calls or text messages. After explaining that I was not getting what was agreed upon, he promised to come out, assess and make sure issues were addressed. After 3 weeks, no response. Now after 3 months, Spring Clean-up and mulching was not done per agreement, lawn and bed maintenance has not been done per agreement and no return phone calls or text messages… today, I’m cancelling services and would never recommend them to anyone. Unfortunately, a good friend recommended them and it’s the only reason I have tried to work with them this long. By the way, even as I try to cancel services, I can’t get a return phone call or text. Again, I should not be surprised!

A lot of these reviews seem fake or for another business.
I hired Brown Brothers at the recommendation of my lawn guy.
They said they came out and provided a quote based on what they saw. We went back and forth in email about specifics. I felt we had a good understanding of the scope of work.
The work seemed good although they did not touch any of the trees I asked them to trim.
To my surprise a month later they charge my card for more than double the quoted price. They made no attempt to contact me the day of service to discuss further work or scope of work.
They refuse to work with me on price. The emails seem to be going nowhere.
I would not recommend as their pricing is way off base from their quotes. -
Updated Review: I have had Aeration done with Brown Brothers Lawn Care and was happy with the price and work. Got leaf cleaning done for fall of 2024 and was left with some mixed feelings regarding the price.
After reaching out, Eddie was able to make things right by correcting the price and made me satisfied.
Ill continue to be using their aeration services. -
Avoid this company! I had a very disappointing experience with their service. I scheduled an appointment for leaf removal in my backyard, and it took them weeks to show up. Even worse, I requested a notification when they arrived, but I never received any communication.
The work was completed in November, yet I wasn’t billed until January. I was initially quoted $140 for the job, but was charged over double that amount. When I questioned the charges, they proceeded to bill me without confirming or offering any explanation.
To top it off, the quality of the work was subpar—they did a poor job cleaning up the leaves.
In summary, this was a terrible decision. I strongly advise looking elsewhere if you value reliable service and fair pricing. -
We’ve had a terrible experience with Brown Brothers Lawn. They were not straightforward with their contract they asked us to sign. What they quoted us was different from what they billed. Their quote for snow removal varied from $200-$600 based on inch of snow, but we were charged over $3000. We later found out they will be charging us for upcoming winter storm because, according to Brown Brothers Lawn, we’ve signed a one year contract. They also notified us cancelation has to be with 30 day notice. We were, once again, charged over $3000 for treatment and after care. We explained we were a small church but they weren’t willing to work or sympathy with us. I don’t recommend this company especially for their pricing. You’re definitely better off finding another company for all your law care. Stay away!

I've been using their services for over a year and have been 100% satisfied. Always professional and courteous.

I’ve used several landscaping/mowing companies in JoCo and I’m more impressed with Brown Brothers than the larger known companies. I started last summer with just mowing (extremely fair fee) then decided this Spring to see if they would do a small landscaping project. A fair price, started 3 weeks after bid and finished on time as promised! We’re very happy with their work. Next I’m having them maintain our irrigation system.
-
Brown did great work maintaining our lawn and very helpful with special requests. Highly recommend them.

I had them come out to aerate and overseed this fall. The first time they came out, they aerated but didn’t put any seed down. On top of that, they broke one of the fence pickets trying to get their larger machine in the back. They told me they would fix it and would return with their smaller machine. The following week they came out and aerated the back yard but couldn’t seed because the other machine had a flat tire. The man working there did seed by hand using a plastic cup. I’ve requested they fix the fence several times for a month now without any response, yet they’ve sent several invoices for payment. I’d look elsewhere before using this company.

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!
I signed up with them on May 26, 2023. I was explicit that I needed lawn care and bush trimming and that I wanted the bushes trimmed immediately, sometime during the summer, and again in the fall. Also, my words verbatim, "I need the big bush trimmed so it's not touching the house. When it does, we have bugs that traverse the limbs and make it into the kitchen." I mean, very clear and succinct instructions, of which they affirmed would not be an issue.
To be fair, I will give them a thumbs up on mowing. No issues there. On par with the plethora of other options out there.
HOWEVER, when it came to the bushes, I had to call and text week after week and listen to empty commitments of when they would be out to address. I even asked them, "Do I need to just have you do the lawn and I find another company to take care of my bushes?" Finally, 7/14 my bushes get trimmed. Of course, I'm at work when it's done so I don't see it till I get off work. I immediately call them on Tuesday. My wife also calls. No immediate call back. The invoice for the bush trimming comes on 7/17 for $182.50. Imagine my surprise that I'm charged such an exorbitant amount for such poor service. I get the invoice at 9:24am. I paid the invoice at 9:35am. My reasonable expectation was that they would make things right so even though they were overpriced and rendering poor service, I wanted to make certain that on my end, the books were straight by paying them before the ink dries on the bill.
Well, we finally get a call back a little over a week later. We're told that they'll come back out and re-do the bushes but they would charge us for it. I'm like why in the hell would I pay you for the SAME job twice???? Mind you, we initially contacted them when the work was completed so it's not like weeks or months have passed by. Our contact with them was HOURS after the service was performed!
This whole ordeal with them does not rub me right in the least so I'm taking to the wonderful world of social media to let others know they should RUN, not walk, from dealing with this company.
Lastly, the verbiage on their invoice is very blunt, pointed, and specific with their expectations for payment for services rendered. So, as I read it, I'm wondering...what about the focus on the customer? Meaning, how about you first render the services in a timely manner and with good quality with the same energy and expectation as you have on receiving your money?!?! It's a two-way street here folks. This company has lost sight of that little tidbit. BUT, they want their money!!!!
I've advised them to not touch the bushes any further and that after this season is over, their services will no longer be utilized by me. I'd rather cut the yard with a pair of scissors than to deal with these people after this year!
EDIT: Ummm, yeah...the bushes hadn't been trimmed since the end of last season when my previous mowing company retired. So that is EXACTLY why the 2nd item we discussed during our initial communication was to get the bushes trimmed ASAP! Again, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to do the math...May 26th to July 14th. During that time, riddled with empty rhetoric, yet no service until I was fed up and ready to go find someone to provide the service that Brown Brothers' committed to do but didn't provide in a timely manner. Address that! Let's discuss that!
Further, I've got ALL text communication between myself and this company. He is correct, YES...they responded. Eventually. And read his words carefully, he stated they have an 'extensive' call record...of course, because I called weekly if not multiple times each week to see when they were coming out to do the bushes! DUH!
Let's help the folks out here, shall we? As to my lack of factual details review, I'm adding pictures so you folks can read what I wrote, read what the owner wrote, then evaluate if this is what you want to spend $182.50 of your money on. Weigh the frustration and lost time babysitting the issue to get them out to FINALLY trim them. -
Eddie and his crew have provided us with stellar lawn care services. He currently maintains our sprinkler system and provides meticulous leaf clean up. I highly recommend his company.

Eddie has been incredible, both in week to week lawn maintenance as well as a challenging water drainage issue I have been fighting for close to a decade now. They worked with me on a real solution and so far it has helped immensely.
I definitely recommend giving Brown Brother's a try for any and all of your lawn and landscaping needs
