Home Services reviews in Overland Park, Kansas

It's all about the quality. I purchased 3 shrubs at a big box retailer this spring. (Rhymes with shows). All 3 of them died, in spite of my huge water bill. I just purchased 3 replacements at Suburban Lawn and Garden. They are the same variety and the same size. Suburban had them priced $5 higher. But I am amazed at the difference in the size of the root ball. I believe these shrubs actually will survive. The difference in quality is well worth the difference in the price. Photos attached of the difference between the shrubs that died and the shrubs that I just purchased.

Stopped by Sutherland's yesterday to find fall foliage to replace my burned-up annuals. Selection was great. The plants were nice, varied, and had been watered in a partially-covered shady area.
Early September did not reveal anything marked down. -
It's a shame that Suburban continues to sell harmful invasive species like Wintercreeper. However, they do offer some native plants, but the inventory is sporadic and varies widely by location. Their prices are some of the highest in the metro, so wait until their end-of-season sales if you're on a budget.

This must be one of my favorite places to pop in and have a look around. The plants are of spectacular quality, the staff are pleasant and informative, and the selection is one of the best I've found in Kansas City.
It's also a great place to clear your head.
I very much recommend giving Suburban Lawn and Garden a go.
Also of note are their informational cards pertaining to care. They have lil tid bits on there that I find quite helpful. -
Great staff, helpful and knowledgeable. Their tropical section is the best in the area. Highly recommend. They also offer repotting services if you are in need of that. :)

A landmark store. Feels like a treasure trove and hard to resist. Autumn plants (hardy mums) store display are a sensory feast. Knowledgeable staff. After sale service esp. for trees could be better.

A wonderful locally owned business with several locations. Conveniently located off the highway. Plenty of parking. Friendly staff answered all my questions. Sean was very helpful and is super knowledgeable on lawncare. They have an amazing selection of ornamental plants and flowers too. Go today for all your landscaping needs.

I was surprised their ceramic pots mostly didn’t have drainage holes. Then I learn they can drill a hole in any pot if you’d like! Wow. Jessica in tropical plants hooked me up with some recycled garbage she was throwing away that was really useful for me. Great advice and friendly people. Planted my Monstera cutting I got at the Downtown Overland Park Fall market.

There is something so therapeutic when getting to go to a plant nursery. The staff here are wonderful. They are quick to help you with questions and be sure you get everything you need.

I’ve been going to the location on roe all spring/summer and they have never failed to be wonderful. Be it a hot weekend day, or pouring rain on a Tuesday, they are knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. All of the herbs and coleus I’ve gotten from them have done great as well. They’ve made turning my sparse balcony into a thriving outdoor oasis easy.
In my photos: all of the herbs are from the basic starter sprouts here. We seriously cannot keep up with the basil and I just had to repot the cat nip because it’s exploding. Everything else is so healthy. All I had to do was plant as directed and add water. They’re thriving! -
This is the second best garden center behind Family Tree. This place has a huge selection that is only second to Family Tree. Suburban has a great staff that is almost as friendly as Family Tree's staff. Great place to go when you can't make it to Family Tree Nursery.

I was browsing the tropical plants and came across this. Other sections of the tropical plants department looked like they received around the same level of care and attention as this Ficus. Throughout the department there were plenty of dusty leaves touching multiple other plants because of the volume of plants on display.
If that web is from a Jumping Spider or something similar, it’s probably enjoying a steady supply of food (pests) with webs as extensive as these. I didn’t have any interest in staying to solve the mystery. There are plenty of other places to purchase tropical and indoor plants in the KC metro area that take better care of their stock. -
So happy with their service. Mr. Garcia was so prompt to respond, spent over an hour explaining to me the fine nitty gritties of tree removal, gave me options on “ biggest bang for my buck” and got the job done ahead of schedule. The curb appeal to my house has really enhanced. We chose them because of the work they had done in our neighborhood and we are glad we did!!!!

I can see the front of my house! Moved into a new home that was WAY overdue on tree trimming. Johnson County showed up on time and did a great job. The crew was knowledgeable and polite. I felt that pricing was fair and I plan to call them back out when it’s time to tackle the backyard. Thanks guys.

Fantastic job done. They removed many limbs from some trees we have in our backyard. They were all very polite, cleaned up after and worked quickly. They even managed to come get us done ahead of schedule. Couldn’t be happier with the results. Would highly recommend Johnson County Tree and would use in the future.

We were very happy with the job Johnson County Tree did trimming two of our trees. They were very quick and professional. They complied with our requests and clean up was wonderful. We would use them in the future.

David came out for an estimate in a timely manner and walked through our yard with me to go over in detail each tree that needed attention. David & his team did a great job thinning large trees on our property and removing branches and limbs. They were also professional, friendly & available for any questions we had. Thanks guys! Highly recommend !

Very expensive and we feel like we overpaid for the removal of a Bradford Pear. A lot of our tree fell from heavy snow and we cut all of the downed branches which only needed to be thrown into the chipper. They didn’t have to physically take down an entire Bradford Pear. Just an FYI: you have to pay $295 just for them to show up to give an estimate. We paid a total of $779.00. It took them less than an hour to do everything. I guess that the demand for tree removal after a major snowstorm means that you pay a premium. Ouch... won’t use them again.
In response to your recent reply and note that was left on our door while we were on vacation in July: Yes, you did send a large crew. However, that group of workers were already working about 2 miles down the street from us. It was NOT our choice for you to send out that large of crew or number of trucks since we text photos of the downed tree to you ahead of time. That was your call not ours. As previously mentioned, my husband had already broken down much of the tree and I have photos of this before your arrival. I’m sorry that this review might not be what you’d like but this was our experience. We overpaid and should have waited. -
Unfortunately our house was was hit by the tornado in June 2022. Needless to say the shock we were experiencing was over the top. We had a 100 + year old tree through our house. The city of Lenexa started street clean up very early (the street was covered with fallen trees). The did an amazing job. I was approached by Johnson County Tree (he claimed he was helping the city) about getting the tree off our house immediately. Since the tree went completely through the house and the interior was exposed, and I thought he was working with the city on clean up, I agreed to a price of 10K to remove the tree from our house that day. The crew worked hard all day (so I brought them water and pizza!) and then returned the next day to finish. WELL, FIRST, they claimed it was too dangerous to finish the last branches in the garage (which were on top of our car) so they walked away. SECOND, they send us a bill for 13, 500. When we asked why the additional charge his reply was well it doesn't hurt you, you have insurance. Claimed it was more dangerous than we thought so it cost more and they had to remove the debris. The last I find interesting as they put all the debris on the curb so the city had to take care of it. (The city walked up to us and said make sure they don't charge you for this debris removal as they put it within 3 feet of the curb so we have to remove it)!!! AND then left us with a 10 FOOT stump that we had to hire another company to come finish!! THIRD, We had to wait for the check from insurance and then send to our mortgage company for sign off and disbursement. As of today we have received many threatening phone calls from this company demanding payment. We explained that its with the mortgage company and we should hear something next week. I guess it wasn't good enough for them and we received a text today saying they were filing a lean against our house and charging us 10% interest from June 9th. This company is NOT professional, overcharges, doesn't finish the job, and then harasses you. I am just sick that with all the great tree companies out there that I used them. I would NOT use or recommend

We have used Johnson county tree 3 times now, 1 for a regular trimming and 2 times for storm damaged branches. They have been very efficient, helpful and priced very competitively. 1 of the times there was storm damage and we had a big tree limb leaning against our house. They were able to get it removed and cleaned up safely with no added damage to the house, which I was extra happy about because it was right next to 2 windows and above bushes which were not disturbed. They work very clean and rake up all the debris and leave things looking really good. I have been recommending them for years and didn't realize I hadn't left a review yet!
