Home Services reviews in Overland Park, Kansas

Great selection and a wonderful setup. Beautiful flowers, plants and trees. I loved that they had a playground for children to play on. Helpful staff even offered my son a mini pumpkin to take home for free!

The staff was helpful, directing us to the plants we wanted. The layout signage was nice. I especially liked the way one young female cashier included two children in their parents' sale.
Unfortunately, a young bearded cashier did not give us the two for one sale price. We called a handful of nurseries for prices. Suburban's two for one deal was why we drove across town. There was a sign posted, indicating the sale, and one of the staff members pointed it out.
The bearded cashier also told a customer that a higher priced brand could not be discounted if the lower priced brand ran out.
I found it sexist that the women's long rose cutting gloves were $4 more expensive and much smaller than the men's.
In the end, we DID get the sale price. We asked the bearded man to do the transaction over again, despite his complaint. -
Selections were disappointing. It's early in the season but I was expecting more. There are usually employees that are knowledgeable and can help. No one greeted me today or asked if I needed assistance. Expect to pay a premium price. They do carry a lot of statuary and decorative rock. Loading is done by staff and is easy to access.

Both locations always have a wide selection of healthy plant materials. In addition, many of their staff are very knowledgeable. All the staff is helpful and will direct you to the right person if you have questions they can't answer. Some of their plant materials may be more expensive than Walmart or Home Depot, but they are healthy and well cared for which means they will work well in your yard.

I purchased a peony bush in early April of 2023. I have purchased other peony bushes. They are thriving. The plant I purchased in April is a dried up stick. I called today to see if I could return and was told no. I asked if they don’t offer a refund or an exchange for a new peony. I was told no, it’s a perennial and we don’t guarantee. Lowe’s will guarantee for a year with receipt. I try to shop local and not national chains. There is something to say for a national chain as they will stand by what they sell a customer. Bye Suburban Lawn and Gardens. Kansas City Metro people shop elsewhere.

Went to get a bamboo stick but if course ended up buying 3 houseplants as well. The young clerk was reading a book, maybe she was upset she actually had to do her job. 3 plants were clearly marked with price. She scanned the most expensive one 3x. I said that they weren’t all that price. Her response was “well let’s see if that is true”. She then picked up her book and finished checking me out one handed. Maybe I should be impressed that she can multitask? Today just cemented why I usually go to Family Tree. This is the 3rd time I’ve been to Suburban and had horrible customer service. Won’t give them another chance.

I wasn't sure about which tree's I wanted to purchase and the employee sat there with me looking over countless photos and helped me choose what was right. They were patient and kind and left me feeling less anxious about such large purchases. Needless to say, I'm two months in with 4 new trees and they are doing SO well and we're in love with them!
Thank you! -
Great customer service at the check out counter every time. Great plant selection and pricing. It can get pricey but you’re getting what you pay for. This suburban lawn and garden is much smaller than the one on Wornall but you’ll most likely still find what you need.

Update 4/23: Had an excellent shopping experience at the Roe location today and checkout with Miranda was quick and efficient! I wish every retailer had an employee like her! The lot was full of Spring shoppers, but the selection was great.
4/21: Unfortunately this location is not great for contractors pulling a trailer or who need large stock. On my last visit there was no place for me to park, so I had to park across the street and down the block. Their selection was poor, especially considering that it was April 14th and the plants are ready to get in the ground. I was shopping for larger balled and burlapped stock and they had nothing.
Update 4/21: At the end of the day, I was able to purchase everything that I needed at the K-7 Lenexa location. -
Beautiful prairie hike. This is a pretty easy hike with a mowed path, some paved areas, and some gravel areas. Dogs are welcome on leash!

Everyone on staff at this location is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Also, tons of employees helping out and on-task. I've had multiple staff members ask if they can offer advice for my landscaping projects at home. I love this place because they offer superior plants and flowers to the big box stores. Use these guys, support a local business.

The staff are all helpful & knowledgeable. They have a really nice selection of all things gardening & landscaping ! I heve been shopping with them for many years . I enjoy the Roe location best for ease of getting around & good selection!

Every time I'm here, I'm greeted by the staff and made to feel like they actually appreciate me being here. I live an hour away and this is the only place I buy my house plants from. They have the best selection, and their plants are healthy! They are knowledgeable and helpful. I could probably write a book about why I love this place.

Love this company. I come from Topeka to shop here

Suburban lawn and garden has a nice assortment of shrubs, annuals, and perennials. The staff could use some training on being friendlier, and more helpful!

The store was very well organized, and the plants were beautiful

Enjoyed their small selection of pre bonsai. Schefflera, Succulents, Elm, Juniper (pine).
I was able to find a great schefflera (Umbrella tree)!
Edit: the tree had mealy bugs. I would recommend being careful when you bring a plant home to clean it thoroughly! -
One of their drivers driving a dump truck had things flying out of it. He did not have a tarp he did not have a tag and when I called and complained spoke to Matt, he did not take care of the situation and tried to cover for his guy. this is big business I would think they would take care of people when they damage their vehicles. Excuse excuse. If they act like this about this situation I’m afraid how they would treat you at there store.

Fantastic place, lots of fantastic variety and everything looks very healthy. You definitely get what you pay for. I'm very happy with what I got. Went in again today and had exactly what I was looking for, even though I didn't even know it! They always seem to have exactly what I want!

They have a lot of nice plants and good people working here
