Don't be fooled! If you are looking for the Walther gardens as you remember it, you will be disappointed. The trees are incredibly overpriced this year, you can't find anything under 50 even small trees. Whoever is doing the buying now is much less skilled and the decorations and selection are much reduced.
It's a shame to watch something so good become very commercial feeling.

Walther Garden is an enchanted spot in Baltimore You can shop the big white farm house for great gifts and inspiration to decorate your own home and then explore all the other buildings onsite for garden items and the Peggy house for jams and jellies
Snowballs too ! Oh yeah plants too.

My family and I live in the Lauraville neighborhood near Morgan State University. We had family visiting from out of state and we wanted to take them to our favorite neighborhood "Snow Ball" stand. When we arrived to Walther Gardens & Nursery we noticed several changes. One of our daughters is allergic to artificial dye and under the new ownership every flavor is natural with no artificial dye, artificial coloring, or gluten. We could taste the difference! From our youngest family member (8 years old) to our Nana EVERYONE Loved their snowballs!! We have gone to this same location for a few years but under the new ownership the whole property has been transformed into something beautiful! The property is also now plastic free and the spoons are made from compostable wood that deliver taste at a different level.

After enjoying our snowballs we walked around the property and learned that the new owner is a certified Master Gardener!! After less than two months of owning the property he established multiple demonstration gardens and hundreds of square feet of shaded and sun nurseries. They now offers community based gardening workshops. We couldn't believe the restoration work that was done all throughout the property.

Despite our multiple years of visiting this venue, today the new owner taught us all about the history of the property. He had deep respect for the original family that developed the property in 1885 and explained that the Walther Gardens & Nursery developed the first egg custard recipe almost 150 years ago!

The new ownership is bringing live jazz music every Saturday throughout the summer from 11a-2p and they have plans for epic Fall and Winter plants. They have already ordered their Christmas trees and have plans to decorate with more than 20,000 Christmas lights on the property this next season! We really loved our experience and will be back ASAP!

Do not come here for a Christmas tree anymore!

We have purchased trees from this location in the past but prices are outrageous this year at over $100 for a 4’ tree.

Prices are not on the trees but on some chalkboard - you need to be paying close attention to notice it.

PRO: Young men (teens) helping with the trees were friendly and great. I hope they get a good cut of those profits.

Really curious to see how much snowballs will cost here in the spring at “The Peggy”

How this piece of Baltimore history became such pretentious nonsense is beyond me.

We used to come here every year for Christmas trees when it was Walther’s Garden so we were excited when we saw Margaret Cleveland would still be selling trees when it changed hands. However, the prices had tripled!! We walked away without a tree because the only thing you could get for under $100 was a 3’ pine. The set up is quaint and I love the way they arranged the gardens. They still have Christmas decor to purchase but it too had gone up in price significantly. Home Depot sells its trees for $45– I think that’s where we’ll be going later today…

It was so cute and they had some local craft works for sale too. They had a Santa for kids to get photos with as well. Some people complaining about tree prices obviously haven't been outside lately, since prices have gone up for trees everywhere. The owner was great and approachable, we can't wait to come back for snowballs in the spring

Our whole family loves spending our time here! The shops are filled with gorgeous gifts, the gardens with beautiful flowers and plants, and our most favorite evenings include the movie nights in the gardens. Not to mention the most delicious snowballs!

I am just so impressed with how much the store has expanded since last year! You can get lost for hours with all the new magical areas to explore. We got our tree at Walthers last year and were blown away by the amount in stock this year. There was a large range of sizes and types. Chris helped our family pick out the perfect tree and was so helpful and knowledgeable about the different kinds. I can’t wait to go back because there were so many unique ornaments that I can see being staples for our family for holiday seasons to come!

An absolutely delightful experience! It is so obvious the care and love that has been put into this local business. From the oldest snowball stand in the country, “The Peggy,” to the music playing in every nook and cranny of the charming garden, you will enjoy taking your time to peek at all of the well thought out details in the Potting Shed, Shade House, and Tropical Greenhouse, just to name a few. This property has always been well loved by many including me. Thanks for making this my new “happy place!”

A very intimate spot on Walther and southern, you can't miss it in the back and there are several little shops to explore

The Margaret Cleveland is truly a gem! From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed by the warm and kind owners who make the whole experience feel special. The shop is filled with unique, upscale home and garden treasures—you never know what amazing find you’ll discover, but you can be sure it will be beautiful and thoughtfully curated.

And of course, The Peggy—the oldest snowball stand in Baltimore—is right here too! It’s such a treat to enjoy a classic snowball alongside exploring the store. Between the charm, the history, and the hospitality, this place is absolutely one-of-a-kind. I can’t recommend The Margaret Cleveland enough—it’s a must-visit in Baltimore.

The new owners have done such a wonderful job at recreating the space here! The snowballs are delicious (today’s choice was strawberry-mango and it was dreamy). The gardens themselves have been converted from buildings filled with odds and ends to noteworthy spaces brimming with personality and loads of plants and gardening related items. The grounds now have plants throughout and it’s looks so well-kept and welcoming. Seating has been added around the snowball stand, and it makes you feel like you are somewhere else, not in the city. I love the music they have playing throughout the space, it adds a little extra fun to the experience!

As if all of this isn’t enough to keep coming back, the staff I’ve met thus far is so friendly. I had the pleasure of meeting one of the new owners, Chris, today. He was incredibly kind and great to talk with. I hope the neighborhood helps keep this absolutely gem of a place alive!

My daughter and I visited The Margaret Cleveland at Walther Gardens & Nursery today and we were completely enchanted. It is more than just shopping. It truly feels like stepping into an acre of wonder.

We enjoyed exploring the 12 distinct spaces, each filled with beautifully curated treasures. The historic farmhouse showcased art, design, and unique pieces for the home. The Mystic Gallery carried a deeply spiritual and mystical atmosphere that felt grounding and inspiring. My daughter loved the Little Gardener space, and I was drawn to the thoughtful home and garden selections.

The surrounding gardens made the experience even more special. The rose garden, gathering spaces, vegetable garden, and even the bees all add to the magic. We also stopped for snowballs at The Peggy, which was the perfect treat to round out the visit.

It is clear how much heart has gone into creating a place that is both welcoming and transformative. Baltimore is lucky to have this one-of-a-kind destination. If you are looking for a place to shop, reflect, and be inspired, The Margaret Cleveland is a must-visit. We will definitely be back.

The Margaret Cleveland at Walther Gardens is a wonderland! Around one corner you'll find a house filled with one-of-a-kind artwork and beautiful objects for your home, around the other corner are the most stunning Italian garden pots and sculptures, then a larder-like space of local foods and pantry items, and then a lot of Christmas trees (currently) around the other corner. It's a beautiful space for shopping, but it's also a sweet and cozy gathering space for friends, families, and special events. The owners are so fun, kind, thoughtful, and creative. It's inspiring!

We attended a guided meditation and sound bath at Galerie Mystic at The Margaret Cleveland. This was such a special experience and special space on the grounds. We can’t wait to see more.
