I had a snow removal contract. They charged me over $1200 for what a group of random people who knocked on my door charges $350 for.

It is impossible to reach them -- they never answer the phone, do not call back, do not respond to emails or texts. They cleared my driveway in the middle of a snow storm, which left 3 inches of accumulated sleet after the fact, and then never responded to me so I had to hire someone else to come back later and finish the job.

The workers themselves did a good job but this company is impossible to work with.

Blue Collar Scholars completed a yard drainage project for me including and open river swale to divert surface water away from house. They were on-time, on-budget, professional and thorough. Great work!

The operations team went above and beyond meeting my demands in a changing project.

I know we had agreed to a certain layout with stonework, decking, and opening up the back of our kitchen in the beginning.

However, I wanted to change a lot of how the patio looked and the team was able to accommodate and make sure everything came out perfectly as I wanted.

Great collaboration with this team! Little shaky in the beginning about communication but once we touched based again communication was superb. They put in a brand new laundry room, brand new bathroom, and renovated kitchen. Extremely happy with work. They were able to reconfigure an electrical outlet through the wall to accomdate an electric stove we bought with very inconvenient outlet intake, very expertly done.

Professional from the start! Sam was very great at explaining the whole process and discussing prices. Our architect designed an awesome back covered patio. The crew worked fast and was very accommodating for our weird schedule and our dogs!

The level of difficulty it took us to find a home addition contractor in Bethesda, Maryland was ridiculous.

We saw one of their design build signs on Old Georgetown rd and decided to call.

One month later we had architectural designs for bumping up our main structure by adding another floor, and an entire 800 ft.². Bump out addition in the back. This also included a two car garage underneath the addition. The team was extremely knowledgeable about the whole permitting process, and within three months of the engagement, we had our permits passed through Montgomery County permitting.

The finish selection was easy as we met multiple times at the Home Depot in Westlake Terrace.

They passed all inspections, including the footing inspection, framing, inspection, and final inspection without any issues.

The separate HVAC, electrical and plumbing permits went swimmingly as well.

We are forever grateful for the final project, and my in-laws are even happier with their private space that they have.

I would enthusiastically recommend their architect and deck team! They opened a window in the back of my house and installed beautiful glass French doors. I now have a fantastic composite deck I can walk out on now. It took about one month and a half to get the permit and another two months to complete the job.

Has been handling property management for our commercial/ residential property since 2015.

I've always dealt with the same crews and this outfit is like a one stop shop.

They take care of our landscaping, hardscaping, decking, fencing driveway repairs, drainage, waterproofing (those terrible summer rains!!!), interior/ exterior painting, plumbing, drywall and even handle interior alterations when permits are needed.

Blue Collar Scholars just did our Spring yard cleanup, as they have done for many years. The guys work extremely hard and do the best job around. We had a party in our backyard the day after they came and we got so many compliments.

Amazing experience with Blue Collar Scholars. We had drainage issues and just a lot of mud! 2 golden retrievers didn’t help!! With the consult of Matt and his team, we were able to create a beautiful and functional hard scape solution. The icing on the cake was a custom built fireplace

This landscaping job was an absolute delight from start to finish. The initial appointment to get a quote was seamless, and the options provided made me feel like my best interests were being prioritized. When the work began, I was given a window of dates to choose from. On the day of the job, a skilled crew arrived and got straight to work. Although I wasn’t home during most of the project, I noticed their progress each day. I spoke with the crew a few times, and they were incredibly helpful and thorough in their work. They worked hard! They even went above and beyond to assist my elderly neighbor with a chore, recognizing his struggle and offering their help. The finished drainage job exceeded my expectations, and I’m confident that it will perform exceptionally. BCS opened up our back kitchen window to create a French door opening which now leads to a large deck.

I honestly don’t know how we lived without this. During the spring, summer and fall months we leave the front door open with just the screen to get the fresh air.

We now have a seamless entryway to our backyard from our raised first level.

The dogs are happy, the kids are happy and more importantly my wife is happy!

My wife was the one who actually dealt with the consultant and project management team of blue-collar scholars and she can be hard to please.

However, I didn’t hear one single complaint about the whole process and we have had blue collar scholars back to do smaller jobs since. So they must have impressed her!

This company completely replaced my driveway and walkway system in June 2025.

I honestly don't know how we lived in this house without it! It's the first thing we see we when we come home and every piece of the concrete driveway with stone bordering looks flawless.

The only problem was that we could not use salt this year as they told us not to use any ice melt or salt so there was some ice during this past storm. We were able to manage that luckily thru being careful.

Never even made it to the job to determine if theyre good at what they claim because the initial process was so bad. I had to repeatedly confirm my appointment, as I was sent notifications for several different times. When the time was finally confirmed, turns out they assigned the wrong address to my account. The estimator missed our appointment because they were sent to the other side of the city. The estimator was nice and apologetic and assured me the job could be quickly scheduled and accomplished. Because this was a time sensitive repair and it seemed like a honest mistake, I agreed.

The back and forth with their office in order to get a schedule set led nowhere. They were not transparent about what the hold up was or when I might get an appointment. Everyone is very nice, but it feels like there is zero coordination or communication. It was like talking to automated systems every step of the way. After bothering them quite a bit, I was finally told a date that would work "weather permitting". I agreed to the date, but never got any other info, follow-up, or confirmation that they would actually begin that day. Then I woke up to missed calls and texts. Apparently they sent their crew to do the job despite having no information on when they should show up or how to get inside. The calls and texts were to express their absolute confusion over having sent their crew to... The wrong address. And upon realizing my actual address, they told me they dont have employees able to service my area. I waited weeks for them to make this happen, and after already having gotten it wrong and wasted a day of their time and mine, they went ahead and sent a crew to a random house.

At this point, I told them this was unacceptable, that my repair was time sensitive and I was already behind. I asked for my money back and I went to a different contractor. In response, they continued to be be very nice and said they COULD actually get a crew to me the following day and to give them another chance. I politely declined, because the second contractor had already shown up and completed the job within 24hrs. I got no response because by now it was new years eve. So I sent a follow up, and got another long response asking if they could just apply the the total to another service. This felt like a desperate attempt to keep my money and I was tired of the lies. I told them I wasnt going to fight for the money, but I would be reporting the experience to the BBB and posting a review. This was when they backed down, clarified they didnt intend to keep my money, and sent me to the owner to process the refund. At this point I had already rated the company 1 star and began writing a review. This owner was also nice and apologetic, sent the money, and then asked me to consider removing the 1 star.

I never finished writing the review, because I was happy to have gotten my money back and decided to let it go. I actually forgot about the star. And then the calls and texts came through. The office didnt understand the review, didnt seem to know who I was, and wanted to find out what happened. Then came the estimator, expressing his apology for the confusion and asking me to consider them in the future. I would never. And now today, over a month after this insanity began, I got another call and another text. So I called and told the woman who answered that I was being contacted and to please stop. She told me she didnt know what I was talking about. I told her ok thats fine, Ill contact the owner about it. Assuming this man would have the power to communicate with his employees, I explained what happened, told him not to contact me again, and that if I got any more communication from his company that I would post, in full, what happened. This man had the audacity to send me back a picture of his screen with my (otherwise blank) 1 star review on it "So it looks like the review is still up"

So here I am, following through on what I said (must be a new concept to them), and giving that star some well deserved context.

Emilio, Rafael, Manuel and Jobany did a terrific job on my new downspouts extension. They were on-time, exceptionally professional, thorough, and explained the job clearly during and after the work. They also cleaned out my front gutters to ensure the cleanest possible start to my new downspouts.

I would be happy to recommend them to others, and was proud of the work Blue Collar Scholars put it before (explaining the work) and during the construction. I will be happy to use them again in the future for additional jobs.

We had an excellent experience with Blue Collar Scholars installing a set of ikea cabinets in our kitchen. We went with them instead of the ikea installers because BCS did demo and all needed plumbing (minor, like detaching and reattaching the sink and dishwasher) and ikea wouldn't, for comparable prices. We're so glad we went with them. Roberto and his crew were fantastic at every step of the process. When any functional or aesthetic questions came up, they clearly explained our options and their recommendations. There was no upsell, though we did decide to add on a few tasks based on issues we only saw once the old cabinets were removed. Even though this was a small job compared to big custom kitchens, it really felt like they cared about the quality of the work and how happy we would be with the resulting kitchen. Also, all of the company stuff were lovely to communicate with and very responsive. Would definitely strongly recommend the company and would hire them for future work.

The team did a great job installing a blue stone patio and fitting it into the existing brick hardscape. It completely transformed our backyard and made it into a space where we really get to enjoy. They worked quickly and left the area extremely clean. We would definitly work wiht BCS again.

What began as a stressful situation with another contractor quickly turned into one of the best decisions we’ve ever made when we hired Blue Collar Scholars. Their team took what started as a nightmare — after we initially hired a small contractor with only a couple of reviews who completely botched the job — and turned it into an absolute success story. Blue Collar Scholars stepped in, reassessed everything with true professionalism, and saved the entire project.

The attention to detail and quality of work are unmatched. The new addition was built with a fully waterproofed crawlspace, giving us peace of mind for the long term. Inside, the natural hardwood floors flow beautifully throughout the space, and custom windows now overlook the backyard, creating a warm, open feel filled with natural light. They even planted privacy trees along the entire perimeter of the yard, and in just a couple of years we’ll have complete privacy — something we’ve always wanted.

The kitchen has been completely transformed. It’s now open and inviting, with natural cherry cabinets and granite countertops that make the space both functional and stunning. The electrical work was done flawlessly, giving us perfect lighting that connects seamlessly from the addition into the open kitchen. The master bathroom was expanded, and we now have a beautiful walk-in closet that has completely elevated how we use our space.

They also solved drainage issues the right way, installing two dry wells that ensure the property remains protected even after heavy rains. The deck extension was built with Island Mist Trex and accented with sleek black aluminum railings — a perfect combination of durability and style. Just off the addition and deck, they created a gorgeous Techo-Bloc patio where we now gather around fires in the fall.

Every step of the way, the planning, design, and craftsmanship were top-notch. Even other contractors who have since been on the property have complimented the quality of the work. From the crawlspace to the custom finishes, Blue Collar Scholars delivered beyond expectations, and we are absolutely thrilled with the results.

My kids were really excited about the framing/electrical and drywell portion of the job so i'll post pics of the process!

We hired Nature’s Friends to remove a very large Tulip Poplar in my backyard. The service took all day and was complex with difficult access. The removal was manual and crew worked extremely well in unison and was able to remove the tree with no issues. Everyone was friendly and very professional. I highly recommend this company.
