It’s deeply disappointing to see Vanguard Cleaning Systems with nearly a five-star rating, when in reality, the credit for that satisfaction should go to the hard-working independent business owners franchisees who clean those buildings, not Vanguard itself. I speak from direct experience as a former franchise owner.

Vanguard does not provide equipment, eco-friendly cleaning products, or even basic supplies. Everything is purchased by the franchise owner, out of pocket. Vanguard is simply a name a middleman that takes a large cut of the money paid by businesses for cleaning services, while the real labor and responsibility fall on the franchisees.

Many customers don’t realize that the person cleaning their office is not a Vanguard employee, but a small business owner with their own tax ID, insurance, and staff. Vanguard collects payments from the client, takes a large percentage, then pays the remainder to the franchisee who still has to cover wages, insurance (including worker’s comp), taxes, and supplies.

To be clear, when I lost one of my contracts, it wasn’t entirely Vanguard’s fault the client ultimately made that decision. But that’s exactly the point: it doesn’t matter how much you invest or how hard you work. Once you pay for that contract, your money is gone. If anything happens whether it’s Vanguard, the client, or circumstances beyond your control you are left with nothing. There’s no refund, no protection, no backup. You carry the financial loss entirely.

The truth is, the contracts never actually belong to the franchisee. You can pay thousands sometimes tens of thousands but the contract remains in Vanguard’s name. And if it gets taken away, there’s no compensation. I personally invested a lot of money, and when I spoke up, asked questions, and pushed for clarification, I was slowly pushed aside. It’s a system that favors silence and compliance not growth and transparency.

If I’m taking the time to write this, it’s not because I’m bitter or hurt thankfully, I have a profession and other ways to move forward. I’m writing this because small business owners deserve better. If you’re a customer and you’re truly happy with your cleaning services, take a moment to get to know the person or company that actually shows up every day. Talk to the people who are dedicating hours of hard work to keep your space clean. If you’re happy with their work, help them not just the corporate organization collecting the check.

Stop helping billion-dollar companies grow even richer while the small businesses doing the real work stay invisible. Your praise, your recommendation, and your support should go to the ones who earn it not just the logo on the invoice. Too many franchisees do amazing work and get absolutely no credit. Their company name is forgotten, their effort overlooked because all anyone remembers is “Vanguard.”

That’s why I’m giving this one star. Not because I didn’t work hard. But because the system is broken, and it’s time people knew what really goes on behind that five-star rating.

We have been using Vanguard in my office since I have been here for the last 2 years. Any time I have questions or concerns, I am able to reach out and talk to a live person. If I need something, it is taken care of right away and on time. I would recommend Vanguard to anyone. Very attentive and always does a wonderful job.

Here at our community we absolutely love cleaning lady!! She's shows up every week and is very punctual! Our buildings never looked better as she has her own schedule of cleaning to make sure all areas are touched.

Miriam and her Daughters are spectacular, we had some bingo players last week wanted us to know that our bathrooms haven’t been this clean in a long time . Plus when I walk into our social hall after they have cleaned and when I look across the floors it looks like they were just clear waxed which means they shine that much . When I first started using Vanguard a few years ago there were some issues. I was considering looking for a new cleaning company but after Monica took over my account there have been virtually no problems. I always get timely customer services, and she keeps track of my cleaning schedules better than I do.

We have been utilizing Vanguard and TJ since April of 2025 (approx 10 months at the time of this review) on a bi-monthly basis for our facility. During this time our facility has been maintained faithfully and were happy with the services. Feedback has been received gracefully and action items have been corrected and maintained moving forward.

We began working with Vanguard Cleaning Systems of Maryland this past summer and have continued with them throughout the school year for our middle school—and we couldn’t be more pleased. Their team has been reliable, responsive, and incredibly helpful in addressing any challenges that come up.

Most impressively, they have our middle school bathrooms smelling good—which, as any school knows, is a miracle in itself. Their attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, welcoming environment for our students and staff truly sets them apart.
