I contracted H&C Construction for a reconstruction project, and I am very pleased with the professionalism of Oscar, the PM assigned to my project. He has very good communication skills. Oscar took time to explain every step of the work, what is doable, and what is not, and offered altenative solutions. He was very responsive from the beginning to the end. He was present on site, collaborated with other company contractors present onsite to get the job done. He made it feel like an easy task to achieve. I would recommend H&C Construction for your next project.

Very bad customer service, I initially spent a lot of my time with H&C Construction but at the end they never finalized the proposal because when their Project Manager took over, he just stopped communicating/ignoring me although I attempted to talk to proceed multiple times. Below is the last email I sent to H&C Construction (with some minor edits for more context):

Hello Luis/H&C Construction,

Did you ever plan to answer my previous email a week ago?
I'm ok if you/your company doesn't feel like continuing this project with me. All you need to do is to just tell me so that I can move forward with other contractors, instead of just IGNORING / REFUSING to communicate.
This is very UNPROFESSIONAL.

I do have 3 - 4 contractors with competitive prices for this project, but I chose H&C Construction (I did intend to move forward with you on this project) because John Cayani was very professional, and you have quite good reviews on both Google and Yelp.
However, ever since Luis took over as the Project Manager after John left the company, all I have been experiencing is your UNPROFESSIONALISM.
Impossible to contact since the beginning, either through calling, or texting, or emailing.
After a lot of emails in 3 - 4 days, Samuel was finally able to help me to get Luis to communicate (???).
All I asked of Luis is to confirm details before we sign the estimate/contract, which he initially did NOT intend to do when taking over from John Cayani.
I suspected that Luis would not have the right idea of the project, just based on the paper estimate (who could?).
This indeed was proven true, when he came over he was not aware of a lot of details.
After factoring all the details into the new estimate, now it's 30% more expensive ($14.5K to $19K).
If I did not insist on having him over to look at the project before starting it, this 30% cost increase would have been forced on me after I decide to start with H&C.
Is this how H&C manages projects, having a bad estimate and later forcing customers to pay this much of the cost increase?
But worse, the new estimate does NOT explain anything about the 30% cost increase (!) - NO TRANSPARENCY.
After I emailed to ask Luis in the previous email, he's been ignoring me for 1 week now.
He used this excuse a lot of times before for not communicating, which is that he does not have phone access from Friday - Sunday from 8AM - 10PM.
What a LAME / UNPROFESSIONAL excuse!
No phone access during a time period, you can still respond later, sometimes just saying something quick like "I'll get back to you on Monday".
I totally understand when I ask, he doesn't always have time to answer right away, but it's just ignored completely for days/weeks, every single time I tried to talk to him.
I also messaged him, and until this day, he still never answered - See attached image.

I'm not sure about other customers' experience with H&C Constructions that gave the good reviews, but I'd be sure to want your future potential customers to know about my experience with H&C on Google and Yelp.

We are very pleased with our project! They were prompt to arrive for our consultation and then for each day on the project.
Luis was a lot of patience and always was careful to avoid any damage or problem, he kept us updated each day as to the status and progress and what to expect the next day. The guys were all courteous and respectful. The quality was great and they cleaned up after themselves really well. They even disposed of our old chandeliers. I was very impressed by their professionalism and communication with us. I would definitely hire them again!

H&C completed a bathroom renovation (including Tub to Shower conversion). I cannot say enough great things about Lias and his crew - absolutely phenomenal work. He kept me informed each step of the way, went above and beyond in explaining each aspect of the remodel from tear down to installation and future care for the shower wall tiles & flooring. He was an absolute gem! Luis (project manager) stayed in close contact with me and addressed and kept me in the loop with ordering sink, accessories, shower door, etc.,). I am EXTREMELY pleased with the final outcome and look of the new bathroom. Thank you Luis and Lias!

I can't say enough good things about how H & C completed our project. We had a stall shower with tiles falling off due to water damage to the sheet rock behind the tile. Luis planned the work, which presented some challenges due to the conditions of the existing cement block backing. Alex did the work replacing the tile and sheet rock with new tile on cement board. Work was completed in a timely and very competent fashion. Alex showed up on schedule and cleaned up the work site every evening removing all project trash. Fit and finish exceeded expectations, and the project cost was very reasonable.
H & C will definitely be my first call for any future construction work.

I hired h&c construction to do an addition and extend my kitchen.
I really liked that they explained in detail the estimate and the process of doing this type of work. I was very happy with the final result. Always look for a company That handle with all the permits and inspection like h&c does.

We used H&C for a partial basement remodel and they were hands down the best experience you could ask for from a contractor. They were fast to get us quoted and scheduled, on time for start and completion, professional the whole way through, and did exactly what we discussed from day one and with quality workmanship. 100% will be calling them soon for our next project. We didn't have work completed by H&C due to the extremely frustrating estimate process. A 3-5 day turn-around ended up taking nearly 3 weeks. Good luck getting a timely response from their quoting team too. When we finally received the estimate, there were a ton errors and a lot of missing information. I'm not sure how since we went over the list with the consultant twice while he was in our home. The estimate they provided was basically useless. If you can't get quotes back to customers in a reasonable timeframe, you should at a bare minimum reach out to inform them the process will take a little longer.

H&C was so good I asked them to do another bathroom project immediately afterwards. The price for both was competitive. Elias (the remodel tech/worker) is an absolute genius. He took what I said and made it better. Luis is a great project manager and was responsive and patient. Valerie is the admin glue and kept everything straight. I'm very happy with both projects and would use them again in the future.

Recently contracted H&C to remove some walls/electric/etc. in my home. They were very communicative and organized. The estimator provided a thorough itemized list for the work to be done and a clear planned schedule. The work was finished as requested in significantly less time than estimated. My wife and I are very happy the with value & quality of the work done.

We have done so many projects with h&c. They are professional, friendly and the end product is always fantastic. The estimate time can take a while sometime but it’s worth the wait!

H&C was excellent to work, and I would highly recommended to others for several reasons:

1) Customer Service - They were flexible/understanding on what we needed done - in the time that we needed it. We just purchased a property and needed small/minor tasks completed and the replacement of our basement ceiling. They were detailed in their estimate and very accommodating to what we could budget (we asked for several changes - and they never missed a beat).

2) Schedule / Task Management - They did a pre-job walkthrough to verify exactly what we wanted done, and did daily check-ups to let us know how work was progressing. They managed themselves to meet schedule - which is a challenge for any construction project.

3) Communication and Strong Team - Their entire team was extremely responsive via email, text, and phone. You can tell they work well together, and despite being busy - they had excellent internal communication that provided a great customer experience.

We are planning to use H&C for our next Project, and recommend that you do too.

I found H&C Construction on facebook and I hired them to finish my basement, remodel my master bathroom and build a deck .from the beginning I liked the professionalism and dedication they put to my project.
The project manager, designer and architect were very profesional and friendly. They offered a 3D design for my project and I really liked it even though I asked for many changes to the design they were always willing to help, they also helped me with the necessary permits for my project.
I feel really happy with the final results without a doubt they are the best general contractor in the area ,I give them 10 out of 10

We had H&C do a complete remodel of our basement, including a bathroom, and they were fantastic. The team was very responsive to all of our requests and were communicative throughout the process. The price was fair and the quality of work and attention to detail were fantastic. I highly recommend working with H&C for any home project.

I contacted H&C construction for an estimate. The person who came (on 4/30) was nice and knowledgeable and said he would send me a quote. Two days later I called to follow up and was told to allow an additional business day for the quote. It’s now 5/9 and I haven’t heard back or received any emails from the company. Makes me feel uneasy - inviting someone in your home for business reasons and then never hearing back is very strange. What was the point of coming?

Recently I hired H&C construction to renovate my basement and kitchen, which were in a state of disrepair. I asked estimates from 8 other companies, and most ghosted me after seeing what I needed done. H & C construction stepped up to the task, and gave me the only professional, itemized estimate I received. Once I hired them, they had a schedule of tasks i could see online, and they followed their schedule closely. If they did something that wasn't to my liking, they fixed it without fuss. Now I have a beautiful kitchen and basement that I hope will last for years to come. If you have a job that needs done, H & C construction does great work, and I would hire them again.

H&C construction is by far the most professional contractor team I have worked with!
After buying one of those typical DC row houses which needed major renovations, I interviewed 15 different construction companies (as I had bad experiences working with other contractors in other cities and heard horror stories about DC contractors). H&C team gave me a fair quote, and the quote was very detailed. I ended up hiring them.
H&C team did a great great job with our home. They added powder room to the main level, remove some walls to create an open concept in the living room and kitchen area and added full bathroom in our basement. The project required permits and architectural work. They took care of everything without us being involved and charging us extra. The staff is licensed, insured and super professional. They were super fast and accommodating. I love the end result and more importantly there was no surprises in the process. I highly recommend them and will def hire them again.

I truly loved the experience with H&C Construction.
I needed to redo the kitchen of my new house and Luis and his team were nothing but excellent. I was pretty concerned about having it done on time, before we moved into the house. They were punctual every day, cleaned after working and finished the job on time. They cleared all my doubts, and recommended the best ideas in order to have the most functional and beautiful space. I am very happy with the work that H&C did at our property in DC. The refinished floors are fantastic and they accommodated our unusual request for a built-in bookcase. Communication was clear and their portal makes it easy to keep track of project progress and payment schedules. I would not hesitate to hire them again.

I found H&C via Yelp, and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly they responded to my initial phone call. I had originally intended to get several quotes, but having been in the construction industry I am good with pricing, and their initial quote came in exactly where I thought it should be for quality work at a good price. From my initial phone call to a finished basement office and guest bedroom, the entire process took only 4-5 weeks. A very professional project manager was assigned to me and provided an easy single point of contact for the whole process. H&C uses buildertrend website which kept me informed and also made very clear when something I asked for could incur additional expense. There were no hidden fees/expenses or scope creep, which I know can be a big problem. All additional services were clearly quoted and submitted for approval before implementing. The workers that came every day were clean, professional and friendly and I felt comfortable with them being in my home. At the end of the project, everything looks great and is just as I asked it to be. I will definitely recommend H&C to my friends and will be sure to use them on a future project.
