So far so good!

I called about a quote and I didn't really have any additional roof space for a solar panel based water heater so they suggested I look into the SAHP product.

This is basically a standard size tank water heater that uses a large evaporator panel that is mounted on the outside of your house.

From what I understood of it in simple terms - It uses the ambient air very similar to mini-split technology to heat the water.

This unit came with a standard solar federal rebate of 26% back on taxes based on the total cost, and a 20 year warranty on the tank.

The unit has an electric backup which is really only needed during very cold winter months but nice that it's there knowing it can function as a standard water heater.

I have a SPAN electric panel so I've been able to monitor usage through the summer since mid July.

Here are some stats:
July 13th-31st: 79 kWh (Had electric backup enabled)
August: 63 kWh
September: 79kWh

An average electric water heater can use up to 4000 kWh per year so this is most definitely going to save me on energy consumption over the coming years.

They were able to lay down some vinyl flooring under the water heater per my request and the whole install only took about 1/2 a day.

Overall I'm happy with the service and it's been awesome to try out this new technology.

If you are looking to save on energy costs definitely give New England Solar Hot Water a call.

Great team work and keyed into the customer understanding. The advantage of rebates and tax credit to this new system is a very good feature.

100% works. So well that I installed a second one in my 2 family for the other unit. They are essentially silent. No maintenance so far (2+ years for the first one). And they have a backup electric booster for the depth of winter when everyone comes home for the holidays and I need a ton of hot water, just for a week or two.

They replaced my aging panels in June 2025. The work was done quickly and neatly, removing the old panels. The new panels are supplying all of my hot water heating. They are a great outfit to work with. Highly recommended.

We hired New England Solar to remove a failing roof-top solar system from a vendor that had gone out of business, and to install a new solar hot water heat pump. Bruce, the President, was very hands on. His team removed the old system, patched our roof to eliminate the leaks caused by the old system, and installed the new solar hot water heat pump on time and on budget. Bruce was personable, incredibly knowledgable, and displayed exceptional follow-through. The system has worked very well so far. Our electrical bill has declined, and the time it takes for the hot water to flow after turning on the tap has improved by 2x. We are very happy customers and can't recommend New England Solar enough.

NE Solar replaced our 42 year old solar hot water collectors and our solar / electric hot water tank. We had a couple issues at first and they came right back and took care of them and now it is working fine. I had also gotten a quote from another company but NE Solar beat their price by thousands.

NESHW has installed 2 systems for me. The most recent was installed 10 years ago and it is a flat panel drain back style system. The system has 3 flat panel collectors and a 120 gallon hot water heater. It more than keeps up with our hot water needs. The storage tank has enough capacity to provide us with solar heated hot water for several cloudy days in a row. NESHW has been very responsive to my questions and even came out proactively to replace the backup heating element that was having issues with other customers. They install a well designed system and stand behind it. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

We got a solar hot water unit installed this past winter and are very pleased with it. NESHW was very responsive - our old conventional electric hot water tank had died and they installed right away, on a weekend! We originally were going to get a heat pump hot water heater but didn't have adequate space for it. The solar assisted unit worked out perfectly in that regard. After installation, we had a minor question about the heat level and NESHW immediately sent out someone to look into it - turns out we needed a plumber for that part and now that we've got that adjusted, everything is great. We have been seeing noticeable reductions in our electric bills - over time, we'll be able to better assess just how much more efficient this heater is. Kudos to NESHW for great service and a great product.

We love our hot water heater. Installation was easy and the crew was excellent and very professional. System works great, just as described, hot water is excellent (unlike our old gas system). Solar panels are hidden on the backside of our home. I'd highly recommend this product. With this and our induction stove, we were able to turn off gas to our home.

New England Solar Hot Water installed our system in a single day, overcoming the hurdle that our incoming city water valve didn't quite shut off completely. They did a good-looking job, and as a mechanical engineer I'm pretty confident that we'll never have to enable the backup resistance heating element in our 80-gallon tank. (There are just two of us living here for now.) The outdoor panel is mounted under the eaves on a second-floor wall, facing pretty close to south. That means that the low sun during winter will hit the whole panel, while in summer much of the panel is shaded so the panel isn't excessively heated. The new tank was also located closer to the faucets, reducing the amount of water we'd have to waste to get it hot at the taps. I'm a volunteer energy coach for my city, and will mention NESHW's approach any time water heating is covered in a consult.

Knowledgeable, friendly, fast, and flexible. Unexpectedly needed a new hot water tank installed within a three week window. Bruce and John responded right away to my initial communication, along with all follow up communications. Install completed in one day, and they were able to get it done within my tight install window. System has run exactly as they described since day 1. Very happy with the product and New England Solar Hot Water.

I believe in this technology for DHW heating. Hope to see these as a more common solution in the future. Happy for the rebate in MA as well as the option to disable the electric resistance backup - I haven't needed them. No change to my DHW performance or temp since converting and and I'm seeing minimal kWh impact on these sunny days. Thanks Bruce, John, and install team - everything has been as advertised!

Great local alternative for efficient and affordable hot water. John and Bruce were very responsive with information and answers to my early questions. They followed through with a quick one day installation by an experienced team that relocated the new tank for much faster hot water than the old on demand unit. The price soundly beat quotes for a conventional, combined heat pump model with a better MA rebate for the split design. On top of that, the warranty is much longer than the competitor's overpriced extended warranty.

I'm very happy to have learned about the solar assisted heat pump water system that Bruce and co install. I had one installed at my home in September, and it is working great. I am so excited to have it! John, Bruce, and Donna, have been wonderful to work with - very responsive, helpful, friendly, flexible and easy going.

They quoted a high price to me for replacing my water heater. I was told later that the bill would be slightly higher, but when I got the bill for replacing my water heater, it was almost double. The initial rate itself was very high. I would recommend that you find another plumbing company. I think that they were unethical.
