Carlos and his team at Alcantara did a custom build, that involved renovating the basement and creating an entrance to the backyard and first floor. The design ideas from Carlos created a beautiful flow to the first floor and back patio and maximized the basement space for optimal use. We are thrilled with our major home renovation in Somerville (kitchen, bathroom, stairwell, playroom + paint/floors for remaining rooms). The Alcantara team are professional, skilled and costs are very reasonable compared to others. They helped with design and were transparent about additional costs. We were especially grateful because the whole team was very conscientious about our 2 young children that were living through the reno.

I truly cannot express how AMAZING Carlos and his crew is and wish that I’d met him two years ago. We were at the tail end of a major renovation that we’d started with another contractor and it was full of all the horror stores that you’d expect; people not showing up, shoddy work, constant delays and more. We’d spoken with a bunch of other builders and had similar results; we were at our wits end and truly wished we’d never started this project that we’d long dreamed of doing.

After reading Carlos’ reviews, I called him, resigned to the fact that this would be another frustrating dead-end and explained the status of our project; he came out the next day and sent two crews of carpenters the day after that. In four days, Carlos did what our previous contractor hadn’t been able to do in fourteen months! He fixed a ton of poorly done work (including a set of winding oak stairs- no small feat!) and finished our project in ways we could not have imagined a week ago. Literally every day, my wife and I would say to ourselves, “is this really happening?!” Our house looks amazing, the craftsmanship is incredible and we couldn’t be happier.

All of his carpenters are excellent to work with, communicate their ideas clearly, and are extremely clean. They offered ideas as to best use the space without adding to the budget and even fixed things I hadn’t noticed were installed wrong by the previous contractor. They showed up on time, did their jobs well and I truly cannot thank them enough. Thank you Marceil, Marcellino and everyone else at Alcantara!

I will literally never hire anyone but Carlos for any building needs and have already referred him to three friends that are looking to do projects ranging from building decks to large interior renovations.

Alcantara were prompt and thorough when putting up an interior wall in our house. They put extra care to make sure that the work was perfect, matching the existing styling and keeping track of all details down to the last screw. We could not be happier with the entire experience working with Carlos and his team on our home renovation! We had always wanted to renovate our attic space and when we found out we were pregnant we knew we had to start ASAP. Carlos came right out to give us a quote and was able to start as soon as we were ready. He even finished a month earlier than anticipated, leaving us plenty of time to nest before baby arrives. His team was incredible and so nice and knowledgeable. They answered every question I had and would make reasonable recommendations to better the space but never pushing to where it was outside our budget. Carlos was super responsive and answered texts right away, always keeping us informed on the status of the project and what was coming up next. Carlos was great! I had a time-sensitive issue and he sent his crew right out. Their dryer vent work was finished neatly.

Carlos was great to work with throughout our project, from the beginning to just walk around the room to the finishing. His crew did a great job, were easy to work with, and showed care for our home throughout the few weeks our project took.

Our project involved partitioning an open attic space into a bedroom and a family room, painting all interior walls of our home, and staining our deck.

Carlos stopped by even on a weekend to take a look at our space, and after some back and forth over precisely what we wanted, we got to a price that we were happy with, including comparing to other quotes we had received.

Carlos and crew also handled the few expected hiccups fairly well. One involved our oak stair treads. After ripping up carpet from the stairs, they replaced the stairs with new oak treads, and they looked great. However, once the stairs were stained towards the end of the project, I realized the bottom stair didn't have a new tread. I texted Carlos a quick message and a photo, and he quickly sent back his crew to install the missing tread and apologized that they missed it. No real problem for me, and he solved it quickly - a great response to the inevitable few issues that might crop up during a job.

Note that we didn't have an extremely tight timeline, which I think was helpful for any construction project, especially in the extremely busy Greater Boston area.

Overall we were really happy with Carlos, and are planning to have him and his crew do more work for us in the future.

When it comes to soundproofing your space, finding the right contractor can make all the difference. We had just purchased a condo in Cambridge and did not realize how loud the upstairs neighbors can be. After extensive research, I decided to hire Alcantara Contractor for soundproofing my home, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. In total we had our living room, kitchen, master bedroom, master bathroom and a hallway soundproofed.

From the initial consultation to the completion of the project, Marcelino demonstrated professionalism, expertise, and a commitment to excellence. He took the time to assess my specific needs and provided tailored recommendations to address them effectively.

Carlos and his crews are the consummate professionals. They are extremely experienced, skilled, hardworking, go above and beyond to ensure the project gets done the right way. Their network is extensive and they consistently got the right people involved at crucial times—usually within a day or two. Very communicative, honest, respectful, and easy to work with. Had a fantastic experience working with Alcantara! Marcelino was a great GC who was always upfront and informative about the tasks at hand. We were so impressed with their services that we asked to work with them for some additional work after the initial project was completed.

The project involved redoing our kitchen and bathroom. We used a 3rd party to design and purchase the items through them and relied on Marcelino and his team to demo and install the new fixtures, cabinets and appliances! Although there were hiccups along the way (something to expect when it comes to any renovation work), Marcelino ensured that issues were had were addressed promptly. Marcelino was upfront during our initial walkthrough quote and gave an accurate timeframe when the project could be completed. The second phase involved the installation of some recessed lights which was completed within 1-2 weeks. Very happy with the results!

There were some minor issues after the project's completion but after mentioning these concerns Marcelino had his team stop by our place with a very quick turnaround time to address our concerns.

Overall Marcelino and his team were professional and respectful of our property (made sure to cover our exposed furniture during the painting/demolition phases). Their price was also reasonable for the Boston area.

I would strongly recommend Alcantara for any renovation projects you may have! We would use them again for any future projects we may have planned.

They were highly responsive and easy to work with. Got us out of a bind when there was significant water damage from the neighbors above us that came through our ceiling. After demo, we had a tight turnaround to get the rebuild done while my wife was pregnant and before the baby arrived. Alcantara saved the day for us. Would highly recommend and definitely consider them again for any future work/remodels.

We used Alcantara Contracting to do major renovations on our home including gut reno of the kitchen and master bathroom and laundry room. Carlos is a true pleasure to work with! He is a genuinely kind and caring person which gave me confidence through the entire process that everything would get done and done well. He was very easy to communicate with. Whenever there was an issue or concern he would be there in person to help fix or address the issue. We've had some minor follow up issues that he we've called him back for a year later and he's just as responsive to address the problems. We'd highly recommend Carlos and Alcantara Contracting!

We bought a new house and found Carlos' company in August of 2020. We initially contacted him to help us paint several rooms in our new home. After seeing his prompt response and attention to detail we decided to get the master bathroom renovated. The project took longer than expected but it was worth the wait. His crew is friendly, responsible, reliable and respectful. They left the house perfectly clean before they left every day.

Shortly after he finished that job we asked him to help us reconfigure my husband's office. Another job very well done.

They completed a very big renovation project on our old house (if you have an old house you'll know what I mean!!). that included almost every aspect of construction and they did a great job on all. We got a lot of complements on the work done. Carlos took care of all permits and went smooth with the city. When asked, Carlos gave us very good suggestions and he has a very good eye for making small changes that made a big positive difference at the end... We'll definitely use him and Alcantara again and again..

Alcantara is an amazing company. My partner and I live out of town, and so were looking for a company we could trust to manage the huge project of renovating a multi-family property while we were only able to visit twice a year. Carlos and his team did a simply stellar job. Not only were they able to do the work, they also took every measure possible to save money and work on our schedule and within our constraints. Carlos was also incredibly responsive as well, sending photos with project updates, letting us know when to expect things to be ready. They are my go-to company and I recommend them regularly, I simply cannot express how helpful they were. Without them, this project would not have been feasible. If you have a project that you need doing, from the massive job like what we had done to something smaller, I cannot recommend them enough.

Our basement flooded a bit. Insurance company had a company come out to dry the water and cut out and mildewed wall parts. They ended up taking out a piece out of one wall, and removing a bookcase and the baseboard from three walls. We hired Alcantara to reinstall the baseboard, the bookshelf, and replace the drywall that had been cutout and of course paint. We also had them paint a small child's bookshelf and replace the baseboard in another bathroom and paint that wall. They did great work. Very professional, prompt response from the first call. I had one point person to deal with, Marcelino, who was very responsive and courteous. The contractors they sent in to do each part of the job was professional and nice and worked fast. I also had them clean up a small bit of tile that was damaged and they did an excellent job on that as well. I've already asked for an estimate on a plumbing job I need done. Would've put 5 stars but I did have to ask them to paint the whole wall in the bathroom whereas I hoped that would have been done initially rather than doing a spot treatment, and I had to ask them to paint a wall they accidentally stained by leaning the child bookshelf against it. And again, one mention of my expectation and they met it with no hassle.

We have worked with Carlos, Marciel and the Alcantara team for the past 2 years. We started with a full kitchen renovation and are now on to two of our bathrooms. They are professional, kind, considerate and polite. They are on time and conscientious. Carlos has good ideas and is very willing to think through projects with you and your designer to give ideas that he has seen work in the past. In fact, two major things we did in our kitchen were his idea and we are very happy with them. They are trustworthy and diligent and the quality of their work is really great. We are so happy with our kitchen and will be soon with our bathrooms I'm sure. I would highly recommend Carlos and team!

We had three estimates. Carlos Alcantara came in at a competitive estimate, yes, but more than that he came across as honest, direct and interested in making our renovation what we wanted, not pressuring us to do things in a certain way. At every point that there was a fork in the road, he presented us with our options and gave us honest appraisals for cost adjustments, time and when asked, his own opinion. Moreover, he stuck to the estimate and our total was what we expected it to be. We had some new problems along the way that our inspection didn't identify (roof leak into our daughter's bedroom for example) and he was able to get it fixed and for a reasonable price, without hesitation. What we liked most about working with Carlos, was his personality. He is a good person, and that comes across when working with him. He knows his subcontractors well and he never hid things from us or tried to upcharge us. He even worked with our design person, who we had hired prior, and did so with utmost professionalism.

After our renovation, we recommended him to our family because of the work he did - and he has now done work for two of my family members on their homes - all of which have come out really well.

Lastly, i will say it has been well over a year since our project completed, but when i reach out to him with questions or concerns, he still responds right away.

I will definitely use him and his company for future projects, and I highly recommend him.
