Jacob and Yuri did a fantastic job with the fall cleanup! Everything look like spring again!! They were fast and very courteous on everything. They made sure to let when know they were and there and had me inspect it when it was completed. I will definitely use them again!

Update 10-16. I wanted to provide an update. Big Lakes did come back out and fix all of the issues that I had identified with them, to no extra cost to me (including adding edging which was not in my original request); so I've added another star back. I really appreciate Chester's efforts to make things right, but of course I wish they had gotten it right the first time.

I will preface this review with two things, 1) originally this was going to be a 1-star review, but the company did come back out and resolve some (not all) of my issues so I am giving them 1-star back; and 2) while I think the work that the company did do was good, it was not what I wanted and there was a lot of miscommunication around my service some of which is my fault, but a majority falls on Big Lakes.
I asked the company to redo my front garden, they came out in April gave a quote and I ultimately chose them over other companies and put a down payment in. They said work would start at the end of May. That timeframe rolls around, and I don’t receive any notice from the company, I call them, and they say I will be scheduled for the next week. Another week rolls by and again nothing, I call them again, and they say again that I will be scheduled the following week. This happens for several more weeks until I just stop calling them. Finally they scheduled it for July 13, 47 days after their initial estimate.
They come and do the work, while my wife and I are gone, and they don’t follow the plan I had sent them (and they approved) instead just putting the plants wherever they thought would look nice. We were also billed for plants that they didn’t put in (this was resolved), and a laundry list of other issues during the project, which I’ll include below. But the short of it is, they did not follow the plan of what we wanted. I have called the company, and they’ve come out and fixed some of the issues, the bigger ones have been resolved.
I waited two weeks to see if they would resolve the other issues but that hasn’t happened. I don’t want to keep calling them every week just to fix more things they missed, so I’ve ultimately decided to just pay the rest of my bill and be done with it. I’m still not happy with the results, and some of the plants they planted have already died, but I don’t have the time nor energy to hound the company until they’ve done what they originally promised to do.
At the end of it all, I wouldn’t recommend Big Lakes Lawncare unless you are prepared to micromanage the entirety of project and constantly remind them of whatever plan you send their way.
Some of the issues that came up:
• Asked in plan for weed barrier to be put in, but the workers didn't have one with them during install (this was fixed)
• Not enough mulch to completely cover the weed barrier. There are some areas that the weed barrier is now exposed to as the mulch has shifted with the rain, meaning it was not deep enough
• No communication that the Ditch Witch would be left on my property over the weekend nor if and when the workers would come back to finish the project
• Brick boundary was removed when we had expected it to stay. This is mostly on me, I should have asked, but I would have appreciated being told ahead of time that it would be removed unless I paid extra.
• Natural boundary does not meet expectations, with all of the rain the boundary has been filled with water and doesn't look good. I would like it replaced with a black trim. (Made to look better, but black trim not installed)
• I never received notice that my invoice was ready to be paid (email or phone call), I only happened to check the portal because I wanted to change the credit card on the account in case I was charged automatically.
• The amount I prepaid was not originally applied to the invoice, which caused a bit of stress because I thought I was about to be charged 1.5x the amount I had agreed to. I had to call to get this fixed.

Don’t be misled by the older positive reviews, focus on the recent ones, you’ll see they are trending toward 2–3 stars for a reason. If you’re looking for a lawncare service that offers customized scheduling (like bi-weekly cuts) or one that actually picks up clippings instead of leaving piles of dead grass on your lawn, this isn’t the company for you. Our first scheduled cut, they allegedly went to a neighbor’s house and had a full conversation with me about how I didn’t want my lawn cut even though I planned it all week, no light bulb went off in their head.

On top of that, their billing practices are a mess. Despite multiple staff members reviewing my account, they couldn’t sort out a simple issue: I was told I had four bills and four payments, yet somehow still owed money. To me, four charges minus four payments equals a zero balance, not according to them. Toni specifically was as unhelpful as someone could be to figure this out.

I really tried to give this company a chance, my wife begged me to leave after our first cut, every week that went by I just could no longer try to defend them when every aspect of their performance was poor. You will have cakes and cakes of dead grass clippings piling up. Save yourself the frustration and take your business somewhere else. This company simply isn’t what it used to be.

Joe and team were great to work with. From start to finish, they were supportive, thoughtful and helped manage the project with multiple vendors. Highly recommend working with their team.

I am on a condominium board in Chesterfield Township. We hired Big Lakes to take care of our lawn service this year. We have been very happy with the service provided. We decided that our community needed a major landscape over haul. We bid the work out to three companies and Big Lakes gave the best price. I cannot say enough about the excellent work that Jason, David and the crew from Big Lakes did at our complex. The project was extensive and it truly looks like a different community. I had several questions during the project and every time I called Jason he answered promptly. Hi highly recommend this company for your lawn needs. We also just recently decided to hire them for our snow removal.

I am 32 weeks pregnant and had the pleasure of falling this morning on our sidewalks that were ice rinks. Immediately contacted people in our association and my doctor. I live in Bay Winds Condo. Not one person has come out to treat our sidewalks or roads in 36 plus hours. . Recently they showed up on 4 wheelers zipping through our complex to distribute salt at 4 am. You can see the tire tracks in the yard. So thankful my HOA is taking this matter seriously.
