EDITED: Had a great conversation with the owner, Dave, who was very attentive with a strong desire to do right by his customer base. We talked through the disconnect and came to a resolution that we were both happy about. I am changing my review to 4 stars and will give them a chance to earn the 5th with a future cleaning. Yes, I will give them another opportunity based on this conversation. I do want to leave the context of my review below, as I think it is important for customers to be aware of pricing ahead of time. That said, I do believe they have a good business with very capable cleaning staff. Thanks again Dave.

Buyer Beware - This is the true definition of being fleeced. The only positive is that I am getting miles out of this story, and everyone I've shared with is absolutely floored. Here's some context:

We called Mill City Cleaning a few weeks before the holidays. We wanted to have the house cleaned before family was to arrive. When we spoke with Jason about the cleaning, he told us they charged $40 per person and that he would send 2 people with a rough estimate of $250. This was in line with what we had paid previously, so it seemed very competitive and reasonable.

On the day of the cleaning, 3 individuals arrived, which seemed like complete overkill. We live in a modest South Minneapolis home. A typical 1.5 story house that has around 1500-1700 sq. ft. We have a large kitchen/dining area, a 3/4 bathroom that only 1 person can stand in comfortably, a living room and 2 bedrooms on the main floor. Our upstairs is wide open with 1 bedroom and a decent sized bathroom. (3 BR/2 Bath Home)

Between the 2 of us already being home and then 3 cleaning people in our small home, it felt like we were tripping over each other. I can understand divide and conquer, and also the safety of working in a team, but this really was a bit ridiculous.

For cleaning context, they did a decent job. we were satisfied with the cleaning, as all the basics were done, bathrooms, floors, kitchen, etc. However, when we received the bill, we were FLOORED. We were charged for 10 hours of time total, at $400.

Again, this is what I would call a basic cleaning. All beds were made, no towels or sheets were changed, the fridge and oven were not cleaned inside, no windows were cleaned, our basement is finished but was NOT part of this cleaning, and the house was organized prior to them arriving. Again, I take no issue with what was cleaned, but for $400, I would have expected the house to be spotless. I found a couple cotton balls and used contacts in one of the bedrooms behind a night stand, and stains/marks on the floors in the upstairs. Also, a full glass kitchen door was filthy on the outside, what could have been a simple touch.

It really does pain me to leave a negative review, as I really would prefer to be raving. But to be quoted $250 and then charged $400, seems beyond egregious to me. I even called Jason to discuss the significant up charge, and he didn't really care, instead just said we agreed to $40 per hour. No one I know with large, 5 bedroom/4 bathroom houses in the suburbs pays even close to $400 for house cleaning. Very disappointing and we will be taking future business elsewhere.

The experience was overall 10 out of 10. I really appreciated the thorough job that they did. They really went above and beyond to exceed my expectations. Above all, their customer service was the most memorable part. Thank you for what you do Mill City Cleaning!

Mill City has been great and flexible with the Covid restrictions and a lot of changes to our schedule. Jason is very helpful and the crew does a great job cleaning our house. Highly recommend.

I hired Mill City for a deep clean of my vacant loft and unfortunately, I was disappointed with the results — especially considering I paid over $400 for the service. For a "deep clean," I expected thorough attention to detail. However, I still found food residue in the kitchen and other areas that clearly hadn’t been properly cleaned nor addressed per my request. The space didn’t feel or look like it had received a professional deep clean, which was frustrating given the price point.

I was hoping for a much higher standard of work and attention to detail. Another challenge was that the cleaners spoke very little English, which made it difficult to communicate expectations or point out areas I wanted extra attention on. This likely contributed to the lack of thoroughness, and I wish the company had addressed this ahead of time or provided a clearer way to communicate during the service.

While the team was polite and scheduling was easy, the service itself fell short of expectations. Would have appreciated better quality control before considering the job complete.
