Had a gentlemen named Jim come out and do an estimate. He was professional, and was transparent on work that would need to be done. He was fair on the estimate and was more attentive compared to to a couple other estimates I had. Overall, I decided to go with Metro Stump Grinding and they did an excellent job. They dug easily 12" down and made sure extended roots were eliminated. Efficient work and great customer service. Highly recommend.

Run by a local family in Northeast Minneapolis....all of their workers are very polite and friendly and they really know a lot about trees (I learned a lot). It felt cool to hire someone who is passionate about their work.

George and the team just took a huge birch that our of our backyard. It was a spectator event for the whole neighborhood. I have utilized NE Tree for all of my tree needs and will continue to make them my first call!

Dan Anderson did a great job and estimated my tree needs.

Always happy with their performance. We're trying to get a ten-year-old tree pruned back where we don't get so much shade. These guys are full service. We do our own cleanup but I'm too old to go up the tree. I'll post a photograph before and after.

I am so happy! From the estimate to the tree removal to follow up with staff...this crew is excellent. My tree removal, in my opinion, was more difficult than other jobs I've had done in the past and these folks are pros. Thank you!

We had a positive experience with NE tree and I would recommend them. We had them come out to take a tree down that wasn't doing well. There was a snafu in the morning regarding where they could park their trucks, which initially led to the work needing to be rescheduled. They owned the mistake and apologized and were able to come out again the same day and got it done. The fact that they made it right so quickly was what impressed me, and that they owned up to it as well. Mistakes get made. We will definitely keep them in mind for future work. They know trees and their people are professional and attentive.

Wonderful local company! Northeast Tree removed 3 large (30+ ft tall) spruce trees that were very close to our home in about 2 hours for a reasonable price. I was very impressed with them, and would definitely use them in the future/recommend them to others.

Northeast Tree delivered a gigantic truckload of wood chips to our house after we signed up for a service called ChipDrop. The wood chips were free and the total pile was a full truckload of at least 1 ton (~20 cubic yards). We accepted there would be some unintended burdens associated with this being a free service.

What we did not expect is that the pile of wood chips delivered to our house would be so hot that the chips were literally smoking and burning in a pile on our driveway. Nothing on the ChipDrop website or in the extremely brief conversation with the person dropping off the chips warned us that this was a possibility. They just dropped the chips and left.

My husband and I worked for hours over the course of two days, spreading and spraying down the chips to cool them down. We’re not arborists or landscapers. There’s no way we would’ve known that a row of shrubs cut down and processed into to chips less than a block away from our house that is then immediately delivered to us after being run through the wood chipper would be so hot that it would cause the pile of chips to spontaneously combust in spots. Even on day 2 of working on the chip pile, we were finding smoking chunks of ashy chips. I assume this is information that a professional tree service company WOULD know and could have informed us about.

I find it incredibly unprofessional that we were not warned of this and that no one took the time to explain that the chips would need to be handled right away. I had to call into work so my husband wouldn’t be alone to deal with a smoking pile of chips.

I’ve already contacted ChipDrop about this and hope I get some sort of response for Northeast Tree about this. The entire process was just stressful and disappointing and I will not be contacting Northeast Tree for any other tree work anytime soon.

He was very knowledgeable about trees & explained many different options for me.
I thought I’d have to lose the tree, but I completely understand my other options!!

They used to be great. We asked them to remove the tree 8-10 feet away from the home. They left 8-10 feet on top of the house. Away, top? Then they told me that they met the specs. I am not an engineering firm! Lost their invoice (look we are all humans), got scolded over the phone and blamed many attempts made.

They told us that neighbor’s tree is about to split and need braces and another tree needed to be removed as it was dying. Our Edina city expert told us there is nothing wrong with both trees.

First off, I’d like to state that leaving a negative review, especially for a small local business pains me, but I’d be remiss in not bringing to your attention the issues I had with them.

First, let me mention the pros:
They are very knowledgeable about the variety of trees and tree care and the work they did was good work.

Cons: Unfortunately their communication was very poor which led to an overall disappointment of the work done - or rather work NOT done. To detail the issues we had requested on our initial request: Removing dead branches and cut back branches overhanging wires.

After having some questions, the owner came out and we did a detailed walk-through of the trees I wanted worked on. Basically, though I felt it was clear in our request and in the walk-through they neglected to follow through with any of the projects I initially hired them for and at now left with a bill for services I didn’t necessarily want AND now I need to hire another company to do the actual work I need done. This has now caused delays in the other yard/home projects we had scheduled as the trees were the priority and necessary before the yard work can begin. So it’s set us back timing wise and financially.

Regrettably I’d have to give them one star of five.

    Unethical!

Do not sign a contract with this company.

I had a tree marked by the city for removal. I reviewed the list of approved contractors and Northeast Tree seemed close and no different than the rest of the companies I saw. I had never had to pay for tree removal before, so I didn’t know what to expect. I wish I had done more research.

I contacted them through their website on June 11th, and within a few days George came out to review the tree. He looked at the tree and lot for about ten minutes and had what he needed. On July 1st, I was sent a contract for the work and signed it. I was told that they were very busy, and they would schedule the tree removal in August. It seemed like a long time to wait, but so far everyone had been friendly, so I went along with it.

On July 9th someone from another company knocked on my door. They said they had another job in the neighborhood and they could remove my tree for half the price Northeast Tree had bid. Not only that, but it would be done that Saturday (two days away!). They had insurance and certification at the ready, so I said yes.

I contacted George from Northeast Tree and respectfully asked to cancel our contract. The contract didn’t list any fees, only that their permission was required to cancel. I assumed that since they hadn’t even scheduled the work yet, this wouldn’t be a problem. I was very wrong. George’s tone changed immediately. He told me that there would be a substantial fee to cancel the contract.

I asked him why the fee was so high. He said “The fee is based on a typical profit margin for a job of this size.” Not that it represented any time/effort/labor that had gone into the project - but the profit he expected to make from me. For doing nothing. For not even scheduling the work.

I asked him why he wouldn’t just cancel and his response was “If there were a compelling reason to cancel there would be no charge. Your convenience does not seem a very compelling reason to release you from this contract.”

I signed a contract, and I honored that contract. I sent in my payment today. My tree was taken down by the other company weeks ago and they did an amazing job. If I had stayed with Northeast Tree, I would still be waiting for them to schedule the work. I still saved well over $1,000 - even after paying their absurd fee and tipping the other contractor an extra $100 for being so amazing. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

I needed my tree trimmed. I sent them a message on their website and they contacted me the same day. They came out and looked at it and gave me an estimate right away. The work was done a week later and my tree looks great. I thought they were reasonably priced. My whole experience was fantastic and I highly recommend Northeast Tree.

Had estimate to remove a small tree or 2 entangled with with fence on property line. Gave estimate. After discussing with neighbor I decided to just remove one as the other tree was clearly on my neighbors property. George was NOT flexible with how the job needs changed and would not consider any changes. Also I was not present during the estimate. Went with JF solutions for a simple removal of the 1 tree at a fraction of the cost. Completed 3 days later.
