We had a big to us project but was handled easily for Matt. We needed a swail and drainage away from the front of the house. He communicated well and supported us every step of the way.

Matt is a master of his craft and very detailed. His company is on the rise and able to complete any vision, from grand to simple. I recommend his work to anyone looking for a quality experience on every level.

We have always stuck with them because of their diligence in coming after snow storms and thoroughness clearing our sidewalk, paths, and parking area. We hired Matt and the Refuge team in summer 2019 to combat a car-sized hole that opened up on the hill on our property and was causing runoff dirt to fall on a road below. Matt responded quickly and created a multi-step landscape plan to fix the problem and prevent it reoccurring. His team was great to work with and his prices are fair.

We were so pleased with the 2019 results that we hired Refuge again in 2020 to tackle a different area. Matt continues to be thoughtful and thorough and creates customized plans to fit your needs and tastes. It has been years since I have received the quality of service I have received from Matt with Refuge Design’s (RD). I saw the promo on Facebook. Due to past issues with FB scams, I usually no longer purchase anything there, but after checking RD’s exceptional online reviews, I contacted Matt directly via his website. Sure glad I did. Our house is 30 years old. We did another landscape renewal about 15 years ago. Matt found an issue with the foundation to our patio pavers that the original landscapers did and the landscapers 15 years just paved over. He took the foundation down to the ground level and layered the new foundation with a variety of soil/rocks as it should have been originally. He anticipated this in the price so we had no extra charge. He also, unsurprisingly, found issues with our 30 year old underground sprinkler system and with our inadequate gutter drainage system. I knew our sump pump would run a lot after a moderate rain, but since it had always done that, I thought it was normal. Matt gave clear options quickly on the choices I had going forward. I was amazed that he got both irrigation system and gutter experts out the same days he discovered the issues. Having quick access to qualified people is pretty rare today. Both of these he referred to me were professional, competitive in pricing, clearly explained the options. They completed the work I chose within a couple days-thus not delaying too much the main landscaping work Matt was doing.
The final product has far exceeded our initial expectations and did so at a better than expected price. We have hired Matt to do the annual maintenance work to keep our landscaping looking as good as it does now. Thanks, Matt!

Matt and his team are WONDERFUL to work with. They removed some falling over old railroad tie tiers and replaced them with beautiful rock walls;secured a heavily eroded hillside so the gazebo footings are once again solid, and designed a built a beautiful fire pit area. In addition to being knowledgeable, they are detail oriented, have a great eye for design, and take pride in a job well done. Fair prices to top it off. Looking forward to working with them again on other projects. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Matt and his crew are absolutely wonderful. We have been working with various contractors, some good and some less good, over the past few years for different projects.
