WARNING: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH BATES ELECTRIC. We had an entire new construction electrical ran by Bates Electric. Read all the 1-star reviews. If you do, just prepare for headaches and some sketchy, unreliable work that will cost you pain and money down the road. There are plenty of reputable electricians with 4.9+ reviews on the STL Area.

Number of Problems:

1. Knew when we built the home 5 years ago that they poorly placed the electrical panel in the basement. They failed to install per the approved SLCO plans and placed it between the egress window (potential bedroom) and plumbed area for potential bathroom. An absolute horrendously placed electrical panel. Install was done with no regard with other disciplines of plumbing, HVAC, etc. The moment I saw it, knew it was going to be a problem. Kindly asked to move it and they said it would cost b/c it’s already installed. Now that we are finishing the basement, we’ve had about a dozen licensed professionals stop by and saw this and said something along the lines of "who is the idiot that installed the electrical panel in that location?” Now nearly 5 years later when finishing the basement it’s been a SLCO Permit headache dealing with the electrical panel and in the bedroom.

2. Within a year of moving in INDOOR outlets that were NOT sealed properly and were freezing from the outside moisture (see picture).

3. There is an outdoor outlet that has never worked on the side of the house.

4. Breakers keep popping on outdoor outlets. So frequently that the outlets are virtually inoperable. They went 15A instead of 20A. Once again, not great common electrical sense for outdoor outlets.

Overall, this is not a company I would do business with. Once they cash the check, there is no follow up or even communication to warranty their work. They’re the standard volume based business, not a care for the the little guy (the personal home owner).

For the person responding on behalf of the company: I have called your office, been forwarded to answering machines and left messages. Only to never receive a response. And now, once the customer post publicly…..an attempt to rectify things? If I decide this is worth my time I’ll stop by in person. But candidly, you’ve already wasted enough of my time and money. No reasonable minded person would do business with a company with such lack of trust and integrity.

Also, when reading such a negative review, it’s easy to brush it off and think it’s just a high-maintenance complainer that not happy with anything. However, please take a moment to see my roll up of reviews. I’m a reasonable and patient person that is not hard to satisfy.

One positive is that the electrician working on our home was flexible and always tried to meet our request.

Our experience with Bates Electric was wonderful. Ian was our electrician and he was personable, intelligent, and efficient. He worked diligently and successfully. We will absolutely be using them in the future and recommending.

Highly recommend! We had a wiring issue in our kitchen, and Bates was able to come out the next day and quickly solve the issue. We were lucky enough to get Ian who was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was super kind to my kids and provided additional insight into the wiring of my home. I would use them again without hesitation.

Ian from Bates electric did an excellent job in diagnosing and resolving my electricals in my kitchen. He was detailed oriented and explained the issues step by step!!! I am happy I got him and will recommend him to anyone.

Charlie was our electrician and did an amazing job, very through would recommend using him again!

I had a Generac Generator installed via Costco and Bates Electric. Ken was the first contact who lined out the details / contract. The contract is very detailed, which gives you comfort in knowing what you will get. Amy was our coordinator, and Sam K. did the heavy lifting of the install. I am thoroughly pleased with how everything went. Amy kept in constant contact on the progress. Sam did a fantastic job with the install. The man knows his stuff! Rain delayed things a bit, but that just showed how everyone went above and beyond to work with us to get this done. I recommend Bates for any electric work you may need.

Got a rough estimate and then the work done by Anthony. Fair price after work was done. Everything went smooth. Would definitely call them again. 🙌 Was a little unorganized on the office side but nothing that really held up work etc. Probably just some miscommunication.

Today Ian came out to install a fan and outlet. He was so kind and enjoyable to talk to. He was quick, accurate and clean work. If there is ever an electrical need again, I will be requesting Ian!

Scott came out to our house to install two new light fixtures in our basement’s drip ceiling. He discussed the new light fixtures weren’t going to look correct. He suggested he would remove the ballast’s and install new LED bulbs, using the existing light fixtures.It worked out great and we were able to return the unnecessary fixtures. Great work and a great guy. This is our second job from Bates Electric, and I’m sure we’ll have them back again.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Charlie from Bates Electric for the installation of three Tesla Powerwall 3 units and their integration with my Tesla Solar Roof. As the owner of a 114-year-old home, I was concerned about potential complications, but Charlie handled everything with exceptional skill and patience.
From the outset, Charlie was professional, communicative, and attentive to the unique challenges posed by my historic property. He invested significant time in configuring the system to ensure seamless compatibility, addressing outdated wiring and structural nuances without any shortcuts. His expertise in renewable energy installations shone through, and he kept me informed every step of the way, answering all my questions with clarity and courtesy.
The end result is a reliable, efficient energy storage setup that has exceeded my expectations. I couldn't be happier with the quality of work and the smooth process. If you're considering solar or battery installations, especially in an older home, I highly recommend Charlie and the team at Bates Electric—thank you for a job well done!
The payment segment is not addressed in this review as Bates was a subcontractor for my Tesla Solar Roof installer.

I needed a simple estimate. I’m sorry, but I can’t deal with a rude technician. The lady at the office was fantastic. But Steve not so much. You don’t misunderstand the customers request (even though I sent videos and pics of what I needed done step by step) and then talk over the customer when they correct you, “well, if you’d let me finish”. Ummm excuse me…. I’d like to get an estimate with you knowing at least the correct information. No point in getting an estimate when you don’t know what you’re even calculating. No thanks. Click

Ian at Bates Electric showed up on time, was able to do the work quickly and neatly. He was polite and friendly. We have Bates do all of our work because they do a great job and are reasonable in price. Highly recommend!

I had my panel board replaced and the service entrance updated by the Brda team. Steve and Kenny did a great job. They were personable, professional, and knowledgeable. I appreciated their expertise, attention to detail, and their focus on getting the job done in a timely manner.

Ian and Berto did an outstanding job upgrading my 100 amp panel to 200 amps, wiring and installing an outdoor light for my patio, installing a 50 amp plug-in for my fifth wheel, an inlet for my portable generator, and an outlet for my hot tub. They also fixed my outdoor meter to code. I highly recommend Bates Electric and their terrific staff!

Ryan was very friendly and he did a great job replacing my weatherhead that was pulled down in the recent ice storm and Natalie took care of dealing with NES for me and scheduling everything in a timely fashion.

Bates electric did a fantastic job at a reasonable price. We had electric panels replaced in basement with whole home surge protection. Outdoor electric ran to two roofs over patio and deck and two fans installed. Bryan was professional and friendly. He was amazing doing all the work.

We needed to have an electrician come out to fix an issue with us constantly tripping the breaker and having too many outlets tied to a single circuit. We also wanted to get a couple of new outlets in other areas while we had someone out. Bates was able to get us scheduled quickly which was awesome. Scott Redfern was absolutely wonderful. We had a previous electrical company by to try and tackle the project and they were rude and hesitant to take it on, and that was the complete opposite of Scott. He took the time to figure out the best approach for our situation and was able to get our outlets that were constantly tripping in multiple rooms on seperate circuits. His great thinking allowed us to get this done without ripping up tile or any other ideas that would cause a big headache. He even went out of his way to get a section of drywall for us to do the patch. The wiring for the external looks amazing, he did a wonderul job of feeding it so that it follows along underneath the gutters to get us power to our patio in the back. Our house is older and has some quirks that put off other electricians that came by but Scott did a wonderful job. Now we have the dedicated circuits, new receptical in the family room, the 2 external outlets and a very happy wife. Scott was an incredibly nice and knowledgeable guy who went above and beyond. Would definitley recommend and we know the company to reach out to for anything in the future.
