Tree reviews in Webster Groves, Missouri
-
In the spring of 2023, I contracted with them for four separate jobs at my house, each priced individually. One job was not completed to my satisfaction. I paid for the three jobs that were done correctly and scheduled a follow-up appointment for the remaining job in the fall of 2023, as they advised it was better for the tree's health to do so then. In the interim, I received repeated invoices and threats of collections for the outstanding balance. I resolved this issue with their office, and the invoices ceased. However, no one arrived to complete the scheduled work in the fall. When I inquired again in 2024, they promised to send a crew in the fall of 2024. Again, no one showed up. Then, in March of 2025, I received a notice from a collections agency regarding an alleged unpaid debt to Davey. This was incredibly insulting, as I was now forced to deal with a collections agency for work Davey had failed to complete. Davey did not dispute my claim. They finally sent a crew to finish the job, and I paid them. Despite this, I am still receiving notices from the collections agency, even though the matter is resolved. I cannot speak to their tree-cutting abilities, but there are certainly other companies that provide quality service and manage their projects and billing accurately. This entire experience was shameful.

Tree Trimming Season -
Would like to share my experience with Davey Tree.
Trying to be a responsible homeowner, I looked into getting my 2 ash and 1 maple trees pruned last fall. I called a few companies and heard a bunch of conflicting stories re: Emerald Ash borer disease. Thus, I thought I would reach out to Davey Tree. Thought, they've been in business for a long time, let's see what their arborists have to say.
Although Davey quoted me the highest price, the sales person seemed knowledgable. As their price was high, I inquired about the amount of work involved. Ted (sales person) told me it would take 2 people 4-4.5 hours or 3 people 2.5 hours. I didn't know what to expect time-wise, so the quoted price seemed less awful and I felt I would be receiving a proper pruning job for my three trees. To save a little bit of $, I opted to have the trees trimmed in the winter, which their website recommends.
Tree Pruning Day - Two men showed up and were in and out within 2 hours! Wow, that didn't take anywhere near 4 - 4.5 hours! Given that the one worker was hanging out on his phone a fair amount of the time, I didn't even receive an honest 2 hours of work! I mentioned this to the arborist, and then subsequently to Ted (salesperson) who came out. I told him that it appeared as though he had overestimated the work necessary to prune my trees. He first said we were under contract (I didn't sign any contact) for an amount and didn't know how he would change the amount. Then he said, as I was the first client of the day, I was responsible from 7 am on, when the workers were preparing their truck for the day, despite the fact they didn't arrive at my home until 8:30 am, then hung out in the truck for another 20 minutes. I was also told I was responsible for the travel time to the next job. Ted did confirm he spoke to the team and they had arrived at their next job by 11:00 am. It seems logical to me that the truck-readying costs should be shared by all the jobs of the day, no? Not to mention, why do I have to pay travel time to the next job?
Today, the invoice I received reflected NO reduction in charges, despite the team working half as long as the salesperson said it would take. The invoice didn't even include the 'winter 10% discount' originally offered.
When I contacted the office (branch?) manager - John, he basically reiterated much of what salesperson Ted had said. Advising me that 'they were in business to make a profit.' John did offer to extend me the 10% discount that was originally promised. Guess, I'll receive a corrected invoice?
I'm not sure how this company has been around for so long? I'm guessing all their branches don't treat their customers the way the Webster branch treated me? Maybe, I was treated as such because I am female? All I know is I will never do business with them again. Wish I had visited the BBB first, as it seems as though many others have had unpleasant experiences.
Very disappointed - feel taken advantage of.
Just reporting what happened to me. I wish you a better experience. -
First I'd like to say I ran crews for 30 plus years for a local Utility. So I have an idea of what I'm seeing .
This morning 05/02 /2025 I had scheduled for a tree removal. Right on time I received a knock on my and was met by Nathan and two other works Eduarado and Alex . Trucks looked nice all three guys were in uniform looking very professional.
All 3 guys greeted my with a cheerful "good morning" . I'm disabled so I can't walk well or to far. I was able to show the crew the tree, and that we had permission to use the back yard of my neighbor. Also Nathan reminded me of the forecast very strong storms were coming. He stated they might not get it all today.
Obstacles they had to deal with a chain link fence close to the tree trunk and a large koi pond with very expensive fish in to. Nathan stated it wouldn't be a problem., he put a tarp over the pond. Then a watch as they talked things over for 5 or so minutes. And they moved a truck and went to work. All three members of this crew worked independently from one another but also as a team. Each person having a job .
They worked Diligently without a break removing my tree.
From my Perspective if this is an Accurate Depiction of how all your crews operate you should be very proud.
I hope these guys are Recognized in some way for they're hard work and for how they Represented your company
Sincerely

Davey removed a large limb from a large tree in our backyard. The limb was hanging over the neighbor's backyard as well as multiple electric and communications lines. They performed professional services to remove the limb in a tough area. Photos show before and after. Communications lines were disrupted, but Davey quickly responded and worked with the utilities to address it.

I have been a customer of Davey Tree for many years and have always been pleased with the work. This year there was a slight hiccup BUT thanks to the very professional and pleasant Ted Smick it was taken care of personally by him. His work was great and he went out of his way to ask questions and communicate with me, VERY PLSED AND THANK YOU TED!

I was so impressed with the care and expertise of the crew who took down a huge dead elm tree by climbing the tree, sawing pieces then sending them down by hand and ropes. They also protected and saved my beautiful redbud tree that grew beneath the dead elm tree. Amazing! They trimmed several other trees in our yard and treated my thornless Hawthorne tree that has looked so sick the last couple of years. The arborist knew exactly what was wrong and another service man came out and treated the tree for cedar rust. This tree now looks the best it has ever looked! It blossomed and looks so healthy….it’s my favorite tree! So grateful for Davey Tree crew!

Davey Tree did an absolutely outstanding job taking down 2 trees and grinding down the stumps. Every single person on my job was incredibly polite, professional and so very kind! I have had trees taken down before, but no company has even come close to the expertise, communication, responsiveness and pure skill at what they do. They left my yard looking better than before they came! They take pride in their work which is something that you don’t see so much these days. I cannot thank Alec and his team enough! Incredible service and wonderful humans!

I had a tree removed this week from my front yard and Davey was amazing! Steve was the lead crew man and he was awesome!!! Nathan was on the team and Eduardo the 2nd day, and both were so kind. I did not want to remove this tree as it's a large old oak in my front yard, and all three of the men who worked with me were so thoughtful and considerate to listen to my sadness! Not only did they take care of my property, but they cleaned up so well! Even my neighbors were impressed with their clean-up and told me this as well. I can't say enough good things about this company and when I need some more tree work done I will be calling them for sure! And one last point to boot, I live on a dead end street and so many people turn around in my driveway and damage my stone wall. Davey never did that, they always backed down the street with all their trucks! This was a bonus in great etiquette for me:)
