Pedro and his crew are exceptional! All the previous reviews that were left by people that had work done by him are absolutely spot on with what they say about him and his work!

When I first contacted Pedro, he immediately set up a time to come to my house to meet me and discuss a plan! He really listened to what I was saying and then gave his suggestions on what he thought based on his expertise and seeing the property. Pedro is extremely nice and down-to-earth and answered every single question I had. He truly made this process exciting and worth it. I will undoubtedly be using him and his crew again in the future for all landscaping projects!

Pedro and his team created a patio for us in our backyard, completely redid our landscaping replacing mulch with stones and new boulders for the edges, installed drainage, fixed our walkway pavers and replaced all our plants and floral in the front yard. They brought the exterior of our home to life! They were impeccable with their timing, incredibly professional and communicative, very competitively priced and exceeded our expectations on the final product. Our family would highly recommend them!!

Here is the back story on how we came upon Compass Landscaping.

It was early 2023 and we were preparing to sell our existing home to move into a 55+ community (in the fall of that year).

We initially met with the builders landscaping arm in the spring of 2023. However, after getting some (stunningly high) pricing from them (and honestly uninspiring images of jobs they have done for others), we decided we should contact some other landscapers to see what others were offering and at what pricing.

I began an internet search of landscapers in central NJ that had experience doing large residential landscaping projects (both paver patios, walls and columns as well as plantings).

Compass Landscaping came up in our online searching. We were immediately impressed with the images on their website of jobs completed (not dozens, but hundreds of projects). So, we gave them a call. Pedro (the owner) was quick to return our call and offered to come out to our then home to discuss what we had in mind. During his visit, he offered to follow me to the construction site of our new home to get a better sense of the layout and the project we were envisioning. My wife and I took a genuine liking to Pedro and were impressed with his several decades of experience. It was clear he had lots of ideas to bring to the table and we would end up with a better outcome than we were envisioning by partnering with Pedro.

While we did talk (meet) with a few other landscape contractors, we did not feel any could match the experience of Compass. Not one showed the same sense of urgency or the level of interest that Pedro did. Pedro explained that he keeps his crew intentionally small as this ensures he can be on site and hands-on for each job he accepts and allows him to deliver the high-quality outcomes to which he has grown accustomed.

So, shortly after that meeting, my wife and decided to hire Compass Landscaping for the project.

We were in communication with Pedro during the summer and into the early fall and jointly agreed that our project (due to the size and scope – estimated at roughly four weeks full time) would best be started in the spring of 2024.

Then good news is that provided us a lot of time to work on the design of our project. We had several meetings (probably a good half dozen) with Pedro during the winter of 2024 to design the front and rear landscaping aspects. He came to our house for each meeting (usually a couple of hours for each visit) and reviewed design options and edits agreed from the prior meeting. Over the course of these meetings our vision evolved, and we finally landed on a design we felt would be perfect for our home.

The project began in mid-May (we delayed the start due to traveling we were doing prior to that time), and it was completed this weekend.

Before commenting on the finished product, I must say that Compass Landscaping employs the hardest working landscapers I have ever seen. On site every morning by or before 7:30am and regularly here till 7:30pm every night (many nights till close to 8:30pm). Several neighbors commented to us that they could not believe how hard-working Pedro’s crew was. I go the gym 5 days a week and I could not do for more than a day or two what these guys did for four weeks straight.

We are simply blown away at the work Compass has done. Utterly astonished. Gob-smacked. I am attaching some pictures so you can see for yourself.

The quality of work has far exceeded our already high expectations. Neighbors pass by and stop to comment on how impressive the front landscaping looks. Then we walk them to the rear, and they are totally blown away.

We truly believe we could not have chosen better in selecting Compass landscaping. Pedro is a wonderful person and family man (lives a few towns away with his wife and four children). His crew was just fantastic. He went from being our contractor to our friend. He is welcome at our house anytime.

One side of our house had some water intrusion problem due to the grading. We also had some standing water issue on the lawn. We contacted several water proofing companies and showed them our problem and Pedro is the only one came up with the most feasible and affordable solution. Pedro is very knowledgeable and articulate. He is easy to communicate and address all our questions timely and professionally. His crew is polite and very efficient. Pedro even went above and beyond to help cleaning the wood in our back yard. I've learned from utilizing contractors many times the quality and customer service you pay is worth every penny. And so it was with Pedro and his dedicated crew. We had our front porch and sidewalk leading to our driveway replaced with masonry stone and the result was amazing. The picture (with lighting) doesn't do justice to how beautiful our front looks now. We couldn't be happier with the new look with attentiveness in every detail.
