Reviews of local pros in Bernalillo, New Mexico

I discovered Whelchel Landscaping while searching for low-maintenance landscaping options. Dimitri visited my home to discuss several possibilities. His openness, honesty, and helpfulness stood out, making me feel confident in choosing them even as I sought quotes from other companies. Eventually, Whelchel's quote was the most affordable, so it became a no-brainer for me to pick them. They started the next day and completed the project in just a few days. Throughout the process, Dimitri maintained efficient communication, keeping me updated on the progress and schedule. My dog got super excited when we introduced her to the new backyard! Overall, it was a 5/5 experience. Highly recommended!

Dimitri's crew did a fantastic job. After being totally blown off by several other companies never returning estimates. We turned to Whelchel. We needed a concrete patio designed and poured. Whelchel promptly gave us an estimate, scheduled the job and even worked us in early. Dimitri's crew performed the work quickly and efficiently and cleaned up the job site. We were extremely pleased with quality of the work and the value.

Whelchel Landscaping turned my backyard from drab to dream! From start to finish, the process was seamless and well organized. The crew showed up on time every morning and did an exceptional job on communicating timelines and making sure the project was a collaborative effort. If you want it done well and done right, I'd recommend you give them a call!

Bill Whelchel and his crews completely transformed our back lot with landscaping, plants, irrigation system, terracing, and concrete steps going down to our lower level. Bill is personable, professional, and highly skilled in landscape architecture. He is a man of high integrity and is dedicated to his customers’ satisfaction. After we shared a very vague concept with him, he conceived of a plan almost immediately that fit our needs. His crews were reliable, hard-working, courteous, and responsive. They worked hard and competently. The entire job took just over a week. I hired Whelchel Landscaping a second time to landscape and terrace around our detached building, as well as grade and install a compacted gravel driveway leading up to the building’s roll-up doors. The results exceeded expectations and transformed a dirty, weedy area into a clean, maintenance-free space. I would not hesitate to use Whelchel Landscaping again for future projects on our property. See the before/after photos.

Ray, Dave, and the crew were awesome! They were there every day, on time and ready to work. They answered all my questions and did a fantastic job on the yard. They are a great team and I'm glad we close Whelchel Landscape and Construction to redo our yard.

They did a brick wall for our patio and it came out absolutely BEAUTIFUL! So grateful for Kelly Ann, Isaiah, and the crew. Thank you guys!

Bill was fantastic to work with—responsive, attentive, and open to all the ideas I shared. I absolutely love how our front yard turned out!

We had a great experience with the Whelchel team, from design to customer service to workmanship to professionalism. The team helped us with design, having great ideas about plants. The work started in a reasonable timeframe as promised and was completed in a timely manner. Communication with Sam was very easy as she was always responsive to our requests for information. We love the new back yard!

My husband and I bought a home around two years ago with a big and sloped backyard. We didn’t know exactly what to do with it. A friend recommended Whelchel Landscaping and I am so glad we chose to work with the Whelchel team. They helped us come up with a design for the backyard, and they agreed to do the work in phases. The first phase is now complete. They built a beautiful retaining wall, and they really transformed the look of our backyard. The Whelchel team is experienced, really easy to communicate with, and super professional. The prices are also reasonable. I recommend their work without hesitation.

Corey and his group were efficient and professional in our landscaping installation. It looks great. And they took care of our irrigation.

I hired Whelchel landscape several years ago for a backyard project that we are still enjoying. We decided to use their services for a complete redo of our front yard. Kelly Ann helped me with the design and Dmitri, Mario and the rest of the crew removed old plants and trees, laid gravel, planted juniper and piñon, built a stuccoed courtyard wall, laid pavers inside the courtyard , and ran all new irrigation. Everyone was friendly, professional, and easy to work with. I highly recommend this company

The entire team was great! Bill was honest and his bids are competitive. Cory the job manager was an amazing artist in how he designed my borders. The whole experience was amazing and I look forward working with them again in the future!

Exceptionally knowledgeable and professional, from the beginning to the end of the project. The entire Whelchel Landscaping team inspired confidence. We found they had a wide array of skills and were able to take on tasks that other companies wouldn’t. Thank you to Kelly Ann in particular for coordinating the project and communicating clearly, and to David for leading the team at the site. We were pleased to see the owner even show up to make sure things were going smoothly.

We look forward to working with you again soon.

Everything was done with the highest of excellent work. Crew was courteous and the back yard looks great. We had a yard and sprinklers put in. We will call on them again!

Samantha, Ray, Cory and his crew were outstanding! Our backyard was rather boring to say the least. It was a square brick patio with square turf. Samantha and Ray created a concept with curved lines , trees, and other plants of varying heights to create visual interest. Cory and his crew executed that vision, and now our backyard looks warm and welcoming. The work was expertly done with great attention to detail in just a few days. The crew was friendly and fun, and they took great care to respect our space and keep everything neat and clean during construction. They were the best remodeling/construction crew we’ve ever used, and we’ve done a fair bit of remodeling over the years.

Whelchel Landscaping transformed our yard into our oasis! Great crew! Thank you Ray, Cory and crew. We are enjoying our new space. 😀

I’m super happy with Whelchel Lanscaping. Dmitri took our design and brought it to life. He incorporated plants and hooked up the drip system. They put down rock, and artificial turf. It looks absolutely amazing

Company was quick to reach out and schedule a time to come out and provide a quote. Dmitri was involved and very responsive and informative on every step of the project and options we had for the project in our back yard. Quality materials were used and project was on schedule. I was very pleased with the consideration they took during the install and the final product came out amazing. Given the busy time for landscaping the turn around from accepting the project to start was very reasonable and any questions I had thru the process were quickly and adequately answered by Dmitri. For sure a repeat customer for future landscaping needs.

The owner was on-site during project (as stated by him) and let his workers incorrectly level, install the incorrect tree, install 3 different types of grass in their turf. The lawn surround is set at different levels. They cut off the last of the irrigation so none runs to that part of the yard. Basically all $6000 was shoddy workmanship and materials. They rushed it prepandemic, we called after the pandemic restrictions were lifted, his statement was; (its two years later, you can't go by that). I guess what he's saying is that a quality product won't last that long?
We called to have him come look and his first instinct was to try to bully me.
If your a women DO NOT go with this company as they do not stand by their work.
I say...see you in small claims.

Ray and his crew transformed our front and back yards. Design, demolition, irrigation, plantings and finishing gravel and stones. What a pleasure to work with such a professional group! I love the results!

Whelchel Landscaping built our pergola. They were timely, so easy to work with, and really knew their stuff. Bill drew up the plans, took care of permits and inspections, and incorporated any changes with a smile. Jeff led a team of hard-working professional men who aimed to please and that they did! I would highly recommend Bill and his crew for any outdoor project you might have. It's a beauty!
