I called Prospect Park Appliance Repair to fix my fridge’s ice maker. The technician showed up, took a quick glance, and told me I needed a new ice maker—for $400. I agreed. Then came the payment dance.

He asked if I could pay in cash to “avoid tax.” When I said I didn’t have cash, he suggested Zelle, Venmo, or a check. I explained that a check is no different than cash, and that I needed to pay by credit card. That’s when he called his boss, who said they do take credit cards—he just wasn’t in the office… and was going on vacation soon… so could I please just pay by check?

Also, the technician wasn’t even from Prospect Park Appliance Repair—he was from a company called Ace?

The whole interaction screamed shady. When a company goes to this much trouble to avoid standard, traceable payment methods, it’s a red flag. I won’t be calling them again.

Most affordable prices out of all companies. Workers were very nice and explained the problem and fixed my appliance quickly. Highly recommend!
