BY FAR some of the most knowledgeable plumbers I have encountered in my time as building owner and superintendent. About a year ago B&D installed my brand new steam boiler. Not many plumbers know how to install steam now a days. The boiler is like a work of art, completely up to code. Every inspector that comes to see it has been impressed. While installing the boiler, Mario one of the best most experienced plumbers that B&D has noticed that water was being lost from the boiler. It turns out that it was a leak in the return, they quickly fixed the problem. This has saved us hundreds to thousands of dollars in our water bill. I would highly recommend them, and although they may be a bit pricey it is worth the workmanship they display,

I used B&D for the second time, this time to fix my toilet. They do a great job. Setting up the appointment is easy. They give you a morning or afternoon window and call before they arrive. The plumber who showed up, George, fixed the problem right away and gave me some advice on how to prevent it from happening again. He didn't try to sell me on any extras and they charged exactly what they said they would. B&D seems a little expensive but it's worth it because they're legit - not one of these uninsured/unlicensed fly by night operations.

Just used B&D for the first time and had a very pleasant, professional experience. I called their office on a Friday afternoon and they scheduled an appointment for 8am-12 the next day (Saturday)

Two knowledgeable and friendly people showed up and immediately got to work. They communicated with the building super and diagnosed the problem quickly.

I would definitely use them again.

We have had a very good experience with B&D. They respond promptly and their personnel are able to identify the problem quickly and solve it. I have never been dissatisfied with their service or with the end result of their work. Without hesitation, I would recommend B&D to others in Carroll Gardens who need help with internal plumbing or heating issues. Thoroughly recommended.

Very Impressive !!!

I used this service for a plumbing issue with my shower - my water had stopped working because of an old control unit. The service person was on time (actually early), went quickly to a local plumbing supply store to get a part, returned and finished the job in under 90 minutes!

Highly recommend! Especially if in in the Downtown to Park Slope area of Brooklyn.

Víctor & Leo came by to fix a leaking shower head, explained why it didn't work, went out to purchase me a replacement, and installed it. Easy as pie!

My boiler shut itself off after the useless plumber changed the ignition which is priced at $124. Then on 1/10/18, another plumber came to check my boiler. He complained that the pipes were frozen and reset my boiler. Unfortunately, on 1/11/18, my boiler lock out again.
I made a decision and called B&D heating co. the next day. The engineers came and worked professionally and conscientiously. They spent about 1/2 hour to check all the components of my boiler. They eradicated all of my boiler's issues.
Thus, I experience that the hired plumber cheat my money and the professional B&D heating co. really solve problems of boiler.

THIS IS A TWO PART REVIEW: Check your pricing - have used B&D for a number of jobs and have always found their plumbers to be knowledgeable and very courteous. Recently my Navien started leaking and I was given a free one on warranty from the manufacturer. Asked B&D to quote me the install and they asked for such an egregious price that I went down the Navien list of installer for Brooklyn and found several others who were happy to do the job for less. I ended up spending 1/4 of what B&D quoted... not 1/4 off... no, 1/4 as in 75% off... sad to see and while I always appreciated the quality of the work, can't help but feel like they were trying to take advantage of the situation.

UPDATE: I finally got to the bottom of the price discrepancy - Apparently B & D was recommending a bigger job than just a replacement. While this wasn't made clear to me then, I can now understand where some of the difference may have come from. Courtesy, knowledge and friendliness were never the issue - with a little better communication maybe this negative review would have never happened.

This is an amazing company. Had no hot water and the technicians Luis and Shawn were so professional and courteous. They fixed the issue in record time. I will keep them as my boiler professionals.

Another company called Platinum hands in Long Island tried to con me into a $4850 hybrid boiler starting with a v. They are still holding their breath.

We called on B&D for Plumbing work: clearing shower drains & repairing toilets. They are a terrific company, the only one in this business in Brooklyn that we like and trust. I'm always struck not just by how well they do their job when they come, but also by how courteous they are. Earlier in the winter they fixed our boiler. I wouldn't use anyone else in the general Downtown Brooklyn area.

B and D is the most reliable heating service I have found for repairing combi boilers. They employee they most knowledgeable technicians in this field I have found over the past 8 years of managing buildings in Brooklyn. I also use them for my emergency plumbing needs and I have used them for installation. They are fair and so easy to work with. I highly recommend them.

I was recommended to this company by others in my building — please take your business elsewhere if you care about not freezing in your home, or not being ripped off.

B + D were the most unprofessional company I have ever had the displeasure of working with. Their technician who visited our apartment was friendly and seemed knowledgable, but everything after that was a disgrace.

They couldn't fix or diagnose our issue, and worse, they seemed to have no interest in actually doing so.

They told me they would call me 8 times over the course of 3.5 weeks, I never got a call, I had to follow up every time with them — reminding them that we had no heat or hot water.

They lied to me about a part being hard to find (I ordered it from the company that they told me were out of stock within 5 minutes of hanging up the phone.

They told me they would get me an estimate for additional work for our boiler room, they never sent it (they said the estimate would take two days).

They charged me more than $200 over what the cost of another part is available for online, on top of another $850 bill - again, they fixed nothing in our apartment.

I called another (cheaper) company, who was not trying to rip me off like these con artists. Go elsewhere!

Victor and Leo came by our place in Williamsburg to fix a clogged sink. They were super professional, knew exactly what they were doing, and left everything clean. Super polite too. Would definitely call them again!

I've been using these guys for various plumbing things for more than a decade, always good service. I moved into a new construction building where I needed to maintain my own HVAC system. The building suggested getting a maintenance agreement with another company which I did, and what a waste of money. I'm not going to mention the name of that company. I had to call B&D and while it didn't seem like they necessarily wanted to service a single HVAC residential unit, they sent Anthony who fixed it, pointed out all the horrible things the other company did, and charged a very reasonable rate. Finding reliable and reasonable businesses in this field is challenging. These guys are that.

In Nov 2023 after B&D failed to show up for maintenance appointments twice without notifying me in advance, I got another company to clean the Navien heater. I then found out when B&D installed a new Navien and replaced the whole piping system in Nov 2020, they didn't install the servicing valves (see photo ). Without the servicing valves, the technician has to shut down the whole heating system and bleed all the pipes to be able to clean the unit versus just turning off the servicing valves. It is costly and time consuming. In addition, not installing the Navien heater properly, we LOSE THE WARRANTY of the unit.

I contacted B&D to describe the defect of their service, the manager not only delayed the response but threatened me that if I take any legal action, the damage to me will be bigger than to them. (In the process of filing complaints to small business bureau)

B&D failed the job, avoided the responsibility and threatened clients. Be aware.

We had a boiler leaking water from a worn out gasket on one of the tubes. They came on same day, had the part in the van, fixed it in under an hour…and didn’t try to upsell me 5 other things (really appreciated). They just solved the problem. Louis was great. Will def use them again and recommend them a lot.

Victor and Leo (excellent plumbers from B&D Heating) were able to fix my clogged kitchen pipe quickly and explained the problem clearly. They were here early this morning and fixed the issues in no time. Victor and Leo were very polite and explained everything clearly. They also made sure to clean up and removed any debris. The new p-trap was installed perfectly, as well as snaking the pipe, and I haven't had any problems since! I would definitely recommend Victor and Leo to anyone needing professional plumbing work!!

B&D should be your first call! That was the mistake I made: long story short, we had complicated electrical problems with the boiler of our brownstone in Brooklyn. The heat went out Saturday night in the second week of December, at the coldest time of the year. We were desperate to get help and over the course of the next ten days with just space heaters to keep us going, cycled through three other companies before we finally found B&D. Excellent communication and no BS from the very beginning. We needed someone with both boiler and electrical expertise, and Anthony is that man. He was able to successfully troubleshoot his way through the various shorts in our system and had our boiler running again in minutes. That was after the other guys took hours over several days with no result at all. Anthony saved our holidays -- you can't go wrong by trusting B&D!
