I recently had my oil burner serviced annually, which exceeded my expectations. The technician explained the system thoroughly, surpassing any other person I've had work on it in 10 years. I recently had a catastrophic failure of my oil filter system, with multiple components simultaneously malfunctioning - the copper tubing to my oil burner was leaking, the shut off valve from the oil tank had gone bad, and the oil burner itself was shutting off after about half an hour to 45 minutes. I'd attempted to troubleshoot the issue by cleaning the oil filter, which only made things worse. I had disassembled the old filter, cleaned it, and reassembled it, but it still leaked a bit. In my haste, I also inadvertently broke the shut off valve stem when turning the valve too far. As I loosened the filter, oil began spilling everywhere. The situation escalated when I discovered a pinhole leak in the copper tubing, which had been bent at an angle to the boiler, causing a crimp that couldn't be fixed with standard techniques. Panicked, I called Richards and was advised to apply temporary repairs to slow the leak. The next morning, Ryan arrived and began work on replacing the tubing and installing a new filter and points. However, he soon encountered the problem of cross-threaded connections, which meant that simply replacing the old valve wasn't an option. Ryan explained that the reset module in my system was malfunctioning, which had caused the burner to shut off repeatedly. I was told that I could purchase a new module at Home Depot and replace it myself, but unfortunately, the one I purchased turned out to be defective. After getting a replacement, however, the burner started working again. It's unlikely that they would have gone out of their way to resolve the issue without charging an exorbitant price. Richards, on the other hand, demonstrated exceptional fairness in pricing and dedication to finding a solution that wasn't their fault.
