We recently used Concepts Outdoor for a hardscape installation (retaining walls) in our front yard. We could not be more pleased with our decision, and will definitely use Concepts Outdoor again for any future hardscape/masonry project.

CO was one of two companies we looked into for this project. We ultimately chose CO because they were significantly more competitive in price, and delivered more value in the proposal (e.g. under-cap lighting). Additionally, we liked that CO was also able to handle the landscaping facets of the project, such as sod, eliminating the need to contract another vendor.

Here are the key areas you might consider when evaluating CO:

COST: As mentioned above, CO came in with a much more competitive offer than the other company in consideration. Furthermore, cost overruns stayed below 10% of the total project, with the only additional cost not in the original contract being rock removal when digging the footers for the retaining walls. It should be noted additional costs for rock removal was specified as a contingency in the contract, so the added costs were not a surprise and very fair for the work that was required.

VALUE: In addition to the competitive bid, the work included went beyond the other company in consideration. I felt there was on sacrifice in material, or labor. And, the bid included lighting as well. The only area where CO fell shorter than the other proposal was in the length of the warranty period. Furthermore, one aspect I greatly appreciated was the payment installment setup. Only a small deposit was required upon signing the contract, as opposed to a 50% payment upfront which leaves customers incredibly vulnerable. And, subsequent payments were required at completion milestones. At no point did I feel like we were over-leveraged and vulnerable to being left high-and-dry.

COMMUNICATION: We worked with Mike from start to finish on the project. Having a single point-person was very convenient, and Mike was very responsive by both email and phone for the duration of the project. Mike also furnished design proposals digitally, and in person to do the walkthrough.

WORKMANSHIP: The contracted crew did an excellent job with the actual build, and as mentioned before with the rock clearing, was able to clear a significant slab of stone in a day. The crew was professional and nice, and did a solid job of ensuring the worksite was tidy, and materials were not left impeding the right of way in the road overnight. In fact, the finished product far exceeded expectations. The only issue was when a sprinkler line was clipped (expected, as it was not marked), and then buried before it was capped. However, the foreman came and found the line, capped it, and pressure tested the sprinklers before the project was considered complete, thus resolving the issue. The sod was installed exceptionally well, and we have had no issues with patchiness or sections dying.

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Going with a lower bid, one is to assume there will be some loss in work quality, or deliverable goods. This was not the case with Concepts Outdoor. From start to finish, I felt even with a lower bid the value delivered was beyond expectations. Work began on time. Finished on time. And not once did I feel like it was going off the rails. Mike was constantly doing site checks to make sure work was up to CO standards. Most of all, the ability to work with one company on both the hardscape and landscape aspects of the job made things far more streamlined and simple. We will definitely be going back to CO for other hardscape needs, and recommend that Concepts Outdoor is on your list to consider for any of your projects as well.

Johny recently finished a project at our new home by creating a patio off our back deck and a pathway from the driveway to the back door of the garage. Johny was extremely patient with me, listening to my ideas and spray painting potential designs where the patio would be. He was very respectful of our budget and worked diligently to stay within it. He was very respectful and knowledgeable, regarding design, layout and materials. We would highly recommend his company to anyone who is in need of any outdoor living space.

The staff was very knowledgeable, professional, and worked in conjunction with our ideas but offering their suggestions with their expertise. We were provided a quote in a timely manner and had many follow up questions and revisions in the weeks leading up to the project, that the staff helped us through.

My wife and I were so appreciative of the extremely prompt response from all of the members of the team and they always made themselves available to review a topic.

Work began within the timeframe we agreed upon, and outside of unforeseen delays, the team worked diligently to complete our project as quickly as possible without compromising quality.

We were kept informed of the progress at all times, made aware of cost changes as needed, and received a stunning product once completed.

We have received many compliments already on the new living space and have already had multiple neighbors and fried s request consultations for a future project. Before making a decision, we sincerely suggest considering Concepts Outdoor Living for your next landscape or outdoor living project.

We could not be happier with our new patio and the experience we had with Concepts Outdoor Living! Designer Mike Cannaday exceeded our expectations with a truly unique plan for our space. The pictures and 3-D design video he created were extremely helpful in making our decisions about the fireplace, grill and seating areas. Mike was thorough, quick to reply and very knowledgeable, guiding us through the selection process to create an amazing outdoor living space.
After receiving several different pricing quotes, we found Concepts to give us the optimal price quote for our project. 09/2023- Update
We've been enjoying our patio for almost a year now and are still very pleased with the quality of work, craftsmanship and unique design/layout!
We especially love our fireplace and have gotten so many compliments on the design and quality.
Mike also did a great job with incorporating extra space on the counter next to the grill for the pizza oven.
Still as happy today as we were a year ago.

Top of the line amazing design and quality! I recently viewed a house that was completed and it was stunning! Straight out of a magazine!! Beautiful Work!!

Don't expect much from this company if you do not have an an insane amount of money. Once they found out we only had $130k they started giving us the run around and eventually stopped contacting us. We waited weeks for plans that would work in our budget but we never heard back from them. The owner actually told us we should put our money in the stock market to try and get more. Or that we should build the house addition ourselves. It doesn't get much more unprofessional that that. Save yourself and take your hard earned money elsewhere!

Polite, timely, paid attention to detail. Quiet and fast and efficient. Helped us put back furniture.It was a great experience. Easy, reliable and professional. Would recommend again and again.

I would totally recommend Construction Theory to anyone who is looking for a amazing kitchen. Jeff and his workers did a beautiful job with our outdoor kitchen. They were very neat and clean, and their job was very detailed and professional. We were very happy with the outcome.

I am a young woman and student living at University Center, and I have to walk by the Stacks and Gathering construction site as a part of my regular commute. I have been catcalled several times in the past year since I moved in by the construction workers, including today when I was on the steps of Johnson hall and got hollered and honked at by both the driver and worker in the passenger seat like a dog in a truck carrying heavy machinery towards the site on Stewart Avenue, over 500 feet away from where I was standing. This kind of harassment towards women is disappointing to experience, especially around a University. When I called, every number in the phone tree branch went straight to voicemail. Please address this so that I don’t have to worry for my safety or comfort every time i leave my apartment to walk to class.
