A few years ago I had rated Central Heating & Cooling as 5 stars but had to change my rating after the last few visits. Previously I had a great experience with them, found their techs to be knowledgeable, their work to be superb, and their prices to be fair. In my opinion, all three have declined noticeably over the last two years.
I had an upstairs and downstairs HVAC unit replaced about two years ago. After the units were installed I had a few minor issues where I needed to call a tech. The issues included a condensate line not sealed properly allowing water to drip onto my attic floor and causing water damage to a bathroom ceiling. The condensate line was repaired under warranty, but I had to repair the ceiling myself. I had overflow sensors fail a couple times resulting in the pan filling up and overflowing onto the attic floor at least once.
After the install I had been noticing the fan speed was really high and very noisy. The return pulled air in so hard that it caused the filters to flex inwards and I was concerned it would suck the filter all the way in. A tech came out and said he had previously noted the fans were blowing very hard on a previous visit. I asked if he could see if anything could be done. He said the fans were set too high and lowered them. He said it was still within specs and it was noticeably quieter in the house when the unit was running.
A couple months later units started freezing up causing them to shut down. A tech had to come out on a couple occasions. The first time he said he thought the condensate line was clogged and blew it out but it still continued freezing up. A return trip he said he thought the controller board had malfunctioned, possibly due to a power surge but they they repaired everything under warranty, although they pushed me heavily to put a surge suppressor on it which they quoted at over $1k. Shortly after the other unit started freezing up and it too was diagnosed as a controller board malfunction, and they said due to the previous diagnosis of a power surge they agreed to replace the part but I would have to pay the $600 labor to replace it.
I became suspicious over the diagnosis and had another company come out. They found that the fan speed was set too low on the unit, resulting in it freezing up and shutting off. They increased the fan speed and it has ran great since. I suspect this was the cause of the first unit to have been freezing up, although this is just a suspicion.
Over the several visits by different technicians over the last couple years, each time there was a lot of pressure to sign up for their monthly service plan and I was asked each time why I wasn't signing up for it. One of the last visits by a tech, there was a push for me to leave a 5-star review on Google, and when I said I already left one the tech actually asked if he could see it. This made me believe they were being pushed by management to increase their reviews, which didn't sit well with me.
I debated several months on whether I should put a review on here as I believe in supporting local businesses and believe a medicore review may hurt business. However after having thought about it, I think honest feedback is the best policy.

Very reliable company to work with. Central Heating & Cooling removed and relocated our customers 4 units while we rebuilt their retaining walls. Planned and scheduled this job months in advance. We had 3 days to get this done while customers were on spring break so there was no room for error. Central Heating&cooling were ahead of schedule very responsive and easy to work with. Highly recommend.

Thank you Victor for a fantastic, thorough cooling maintenance visit today. This is the 2nd time I have used Central as found them for a repair a few months ago and decided to try the maintenance plan. I was very impressed with the detailed review of both of our systems that Victor performed and the written explanations, pictures and his patience in answering all of my questions. I never felt pressured and he was very helpful in explaining the various recommendations, risks, pros and cons. He specifically pointed out important things to do if we want to keep our unit running longer vs. just automatically pushing for a new unit. We chose to replace the two torque boosters/capacitors and the pricing continues to be reasonable and the service exceptional. Thank you Victor and Central!

Central Heating & Cooling installed the HVAC system on my new house. It wasn’t holding up in recent cold weather and Sam came out the next day to check the system and get it fixed. Turns out there was a small wiring issue and I was back up and running within an hour.

Of course our air went out on Easter Day. I called this company based on so many positive reviews on the Nextdoor app. I texted the customer service number on Easter not expecting a response, but 1/2 hour later I received a text back. Of course since it was a holiday they said they could come out today to look at our system.

Our service time was for 5-7pm. Promptly at 5pm Victor was at my house. I explained what was going on and to work he went. He found the issue and fixed the problem in no time. Our system is 21 years old, so he gave us all the options of upgrading, but we are not ready to do that yet. It’s working great right now and the house is back to feeling nice and cool. Victor was very kind and explained things to my husband and myself. Great service all the way around! We’ll be sure to call again.

Jesus and Sam were awesome! I spoke to Jesus over the phone about the issues I was having with my AC and he had Sam come out right away to check it out. Sam was quick, professional and knowledgeable. He repaired a small part and cleaned up my outdoor unit in less than an hour. Now my AC is keeping temp again during the hottest time of the day. Thank you guys.

Exceptional experience from start to finish with Central Heating and Cooling. After putting it off for several years, our old furnace finally gave out and we decided to replace our entire, 15-year old system. Central tech’s were there quick, professional and were very transparent. They also install Trane systems which, in my experience, are the most reliable. For whatever reason, some of the big name companies in Charlotte don’t carry Trane. I had two other companies look at our system and Central was hands down the best value. I couldn’t recommend them more. Special thanks to Jesus and Juan who managed the installation.

This was a perfectly seamless encounter to replace 2 HVAC systems knocked out by a lightning strike. I received quotes from 4 companies in the Charlotte area and Central Heating and Cooling beat the competition not only in price but with superior customer service. Starting with sales: Irving was very knowledgeable, listened to our concerns, explained all steps involved, followed up appropriately and was accessible when needed. Most importantly, we didn't feel pressured by him to make a deal. Second: installers, Josue and Juan, arrived on time, installed the units without delays, explained the progress, and left the place precisely as it was. Third - Office help - Jesus stayed on top of rebate applications and Nyra is the command center, the voice of all coordination. Her communication to the customer is outstanding. So far, we have received everything in our contract within appropriate time frame, communication to Central is consistently positive and timely, calls are answered and call backs performed. I would recommend this company 100%!!!!!
