Hearth & Hammer just completed a complete re-work of our backyard, inclusive of the addition of a retaining wall and the clean-up and replacement of the existing drainage system associated with a major patio. They did a fantastic job, were incredibly responsive and we highly recommend them.

Hearth and Hammer is the best company to work with. Attention to detail and results are always the main focus. Don’t let the other contractors fool you! If you need a company to work with, they can help you out!

I highly recommend Hearth & Hammer. Richard Hammond provided a very competitive quote and answered all my questions on a roof leak repair and old solar panel removal that I needed done. He also inspected my attic for potential water damage. The morning the work was to be done Richard sent me a text giving me a time window for his crew to be onsite, and they were punctual. Richard and his crew were friendly, professional and efficient, Richard even looked at another potential roof leak area while he was on the roof that I had become concerned about and he determined that no additional work was required. I found Hearth & Hammer to be honest, reliable and they will be at the top of my list for who to call when I need work done in the future.

Hearth and Hammer was recommended to us by The Plant Guys, and we are so happy they did. Our deck needed to be completely replaced and we had a very serious drainage issue that needed to be addressed. To avoid the utilities and irrigation system Cass suggested a hand-dug trench from the back of our house all the way around and out to the street . For the deck Cass suggested extending the deck 4 feet and he helped us with the material selection and was open to many modifications. We are extremely happy with the results and cannot recommend Hearth and Hammer enough.

We needed a patio for our small townhome backyard. After contacting two other companies and getting no response, we found Hearth and Hammer. What a blessing! Cass, Richard, Drew and the guys were fantastic to work with. Prompt, efficient, and professional. We can highly recommend them.

We are so pleased with how our backyard project turned out with much thanks to Hearth & Hammer. We are enjoying our backyard so much after having Hearth & Hammer replace our paver patio with bluestone hardscape, replace a walkway with bluestone and add a new bluestone hardscape patio. They also added landscape lighting and redid the lawn area (added soil and new sod).
Cass and his crew did an outstanding job with the backyard transformation. Cass had good ideas to make everything look good. They were easy to work with and it seems they can do most anything. They also came back and fixed some brown areas in the new sod after project completion, which I’m not sure all contractors would do.
I definitely recommend Hearth & Hammer.

Hearth and Hammer completed a covered porch for our backyard. Cass helped us improve our original plan for the porch by talking through our needs on his first visit and offering suggestions. He was attentive, professional, and extremely knowledgeable in all areas we had questions about. The quality of the work and the working relationship exceeded our expectations. Cass goes above and beyond for product quality and client service. They would be our preferred team for any future projects.

Hearth and Hammer is a wonderful company. They have completed multiple projects for us. His plans always came in at or under budget. Cass had great ideas along the way to improve the designs and worked with me us on budgets and costs. His crews are efficient and clean up every day. They always showed up on time. I appreciate that. The workmanship was excellent and I am very picky. Our large project was a complete renovation of our back patio, including removal of old concrete, install of travertine, retile pool, install of outdoor bar and grill, grading and seeding the yard. It looks amazing. Cass also installed large basement sliding doors, repaired water damage and leaking pipes, and will be doing our master bath renovation. I have referred him to many friends and they have always been very pleased. A good contractor is hard to find. Cass stands by his work, is reliable, and does excellent work.

Pros: Brad is very friendly and tries to get things right, the framing of the deck and porch and the laying of the floor were great. All areas of the porch construction (minus electric; see cons) were excellent.

Cons: It took 4 attempts to get the front facing and stairs of the deck correct. 3 of these times were because they kept using the same guy and it got progressively worse each time he did it. The 4th time the team that did the wrap on the posts on the porch did it and it was done correctly. Also the wrong rails were ordered and installed poorly and uneven. The correct railing material was ordered but the size was wrong. It took three times to get correct rails for deck. Had to tighten most screws of flooring because 75% were not in fully (we used Trex for deck which uses the hideaway fasteners). Electricians didn’t seem to know what they were doing. Still have a fan on porch that is temperamental and does not currently work. Attention to detail is not always spectacular. Felt like we had to keep on them to get things right.

Overall, our experience with H&H was less than ideal. They are not bad people or dishonest. However, the constant management on our end was tiring and not what we expected. While we are mostly satisfied with the deck, if you hire them, expect to double and triple check everything.

I had Robert and his group build an additional space on the back of my house. I couldn’t be happier with the craftsmanship. Every detail was accounted for. The timeframe and cost were a surprise as well. Fast, on time and cost effective are three things hard to put together but Robert nails it. Thanks again for everything you did for us.

We were referred to Cass for a fairly large project in our backyard, and we had a great experience from start to finish. Our February 2022 project included a variety of work: removal of leaves/old bushes/small trees; professional grading; creation of a dry creek bed to help with drainage issues; repainting of our deck; installation of outdoor lighting; installation of new stone steps; and installation of seed, straw, and mulch. We also wanted to replace a pea-gravel path in our front yard with a brick path and repair/replace other brick retaining walls around our landscaping.

We consulted with several outdoor contractors, but immediately felt comfortable with Cass, and his prices were very reasonable. He communicated well throughout the project, was concerned with making sure we were happy at every stage, came out after rain storms himself to evaluate water issues in our backyard, and completed the project in a timely fashion (he was delayed only by rain). He also knew that we had been considering a fire pit and, when he noticed that our backyard contained a lot of stone that would work, suggested that we repurpose it. That suggestion saved us a ton on material costs, and we have used the fire pit repeatedly throughout the spring/summer. Finally, his crew was always respectful and kind, even helping my toddler "lay" a brick himself along our path. Can't recommend Cass highly enough!

I can’t tell you how absolutely wonderful it has been to find, hire, and experience the quality of work Hearth and Hammer put into beautifying my home. My townhouse was in desperate need of some curb appeal and Hearth and Hammer delivered! My retaining wall was done to perfection and NO CORNERS were cut. I was given their best work and I truly recommend that anyone looking to refresh their landscaping, to at least consider calling them for a quote. The company representative Richard is very professional and kind and will come to your home to take note of what you are looking to do with your project and get his guys right on it. Cass and his team were phenomenal. My wife and I had an obstacle arise with a house we were wanting to purchase where a deck had to be replaced, to include demolition and rebuilding the entire thing (including footers) before the house could sell. Cass and his team finished the project in a day or two, and he even sent me pictures once it was done to show me it had been completed. Super friendly people.

We were referred to Cass and Hearth & Hammer by a landscape company we had hired. His crew worked on several projects in our backyard. They solved water drainage issue that we had after a heavy rain, created steps and path around the whole backyard making large parts of the backyard accessible, got the grill fixed and looking brand new and planted bushes and plants and installed sod. The back yard has had quite a transformation and we can't thank Cass, Richard, and all of their crew enough!

My wife and I selected Hearth and Hammer to replace our deck, and based on the results, our decision was the right one. Our composite deck is outstanding. Cass and his team was timely, cleaned up after themselves and the quality is top notch. We selected Hearth and Hammer after 4 quotes. Cass sales approach was not heavy handed and he was available to answer all of our questions, and although we had many, he was always patient. From start to finish, this was a first class job and we highly recommend Hearth and Hammer.

Cass did a fabulous job of hardscaping our property. We recently moved into a new house that we love, but our landscaping/lack of hardscaping left something to be desired. Cass coordinated with Jeff from the Plant Guys to completely revamp our entire property (including rebuilding our front steps). His crew was extremely detail oriented and talented in their craft; shoutout in particular to Julio for his thoughtful recommendations.

Highly recommend- we would definitely hire Cass & his crew again.

UPDATE: More recently, asked the Hearth and Hammer team to come take a look at some electrical and carpentry issues we were dealing with. They came out quickly and helped us resolve the issues in no time. We'll continue to use them as our general contractor- they're the best!

We used Hearth and Hammer to add a screened porch and new hardscape, and we couldn’t be happier! The craftsmanship is excellent, and we absolutely love the finished product. The team maintained great communication throughout the project, completed the work on time, and was a pleasure to work with. Every worker was professional, friendly, and respectful of our space.
