Brad did an excellent job doing my annual chimney cleaning and inspection. When he was finished, our fireplace insert looked like new!! He. arrived when expected, did the the job as a professional should, cleaned up everything and then took time to explain what had been done and answered my questions. I love using the wood burning insert during the winter months and appreciate the piece of mind I get from having Blackburns check everything out annually.

I gave this review two stars because we did have some positive experiences with Blackburn for our chimney inspection, and duct cleaning work. About 5 months ago we had a gas insert put into our fireplace. The fireplace was complicated in that it did not have enough clearance to be wood burning and was too small to fit most gas inserts. The installation went fine however, at the end the piece that should have went around the gas insert did not fit. So basically it looked like a gas stove sitting inside of our fireplace with exhaust visible (see picture). This definitely disappointed me because it did not look like a 3,700$ job we agreed to. They deducted some money and said that it would be easy to have someone come out with metal and concrete board and go around it.
Over the five months we had several people out none of which seemed interested in fixing it, or people who said conflicting things on how to fix it (one person said we would need to brick around it). My husband and I contacted Blackburn to tell them we were not really happy with the end result and wanted to know what our options were for fixing it. Blackburn then, without our consent, special ordered a metal backing to go around the fireplace using our old measurements. This was not only without our consent, but also without them understanding what we even wanted it to look like. In the meantime we went to another gas insert dealer (should have done this from the start) they showed us the thick metal piece that should have went around the insert, and said they would come out and custom cut it.
Blackburn came out with the metal piece because we were going to let them fix it if it was the same as the other dealer. Not only was the metal piece thinner than the other dealer, but it also had been spray painted to match, and would have required more work to tile (cement board). Normally I would not even write this, but we asked if we could talk about it (having the metal piece installed) and the Blackburn person would not even look at us and kept getting it ready to put on. I finally said no, and I cannot believe the unprofessional behavior I saw. No eye contact, no talking, visibly disgusted with us. We never asked for him to order the piece we simply said we were unhappy and wanted to discuss solutions. The way he acted made me write this review. I never wrote one for the initial installation because we love the stove, and know our chimney was complicated. We were willing to pay to have it done the way we wanted, and were not looking for it to be taken back or fixed for free. It really shows Blackburn does not value its customers. As a new home owners my husband and I are going to need duct cleaning for many years to come, and servicing for our gas insert. We won’t be doing any of those things with Blackburn. -
Brad did a good job of installing the chase cover which needed to be replace after 40+ years of wear. He and his assistant did a great job and cleaned up any debris. Thank you for a great experience.

Our new fireplace looks amazing and I would strongly recommend Blackburns Chimney Services to friends and family.
The crew consistently exemplified professionalism from initial inspection by Dolf to installation by Cory, Levi, Isaiah and Dolf.
In particular, I want to commend Levi and Cory for their high attention to detail and problem solving, making multiple small adjustments to ensure an excellent final result. -
We've worked with Blackburns more than once now for our wood-burning fireplace and I have been impressed each time with the knowledgeable and thorough crew. On top of their obvious expertise, they do a great job of being tidy in what is inherently not a tidy enterprise. Thank you for making this service an easy experience!

We purchased our house in the fall of 2023 and were surprised to find out the condition of our chimney after an inspection by two different companies. Ultimately I had remembered we used Blackburns years ago at a previous residence and were very happy with the service. They once again didn't disappoint.
Scheduling is super easy, prices are competitive, and there was no pressure - we decided to have work done in batches over a few months.
Isaiah and Levi were wonderful to work with - on time, very pleasant, and easy to talk to. I had mentioned possibly wanting a new log set as the one we had was very undersized and extremely worn, so Isaiah left me some literature to review and gave me instruction on who to work with when I was ready. Lucky for us, Isaiah and Levi were the ones to return to install the log set for us.
In the end we had new b-vent installed on the furnace and hot water tank up a new stainless steel liner up one flue, Heatshield spray liner applied up the fireplace flue, a sleek stainless steel double flue chimney cap, and new burner and log set. Can't wait to finally use the fireplace this year! -
Asked Blackburn to do some chimney cap work. Lady on the phone said she needed to talk to her service manager and would return my call that afternoon or next morning. Never heard from them again.

Blackburns Chimney Service inspected and cleaned my fireplace and provided a thorough inspection report afterward. Highly recommend to those looking for fireplace inspection/cleaning/repair.

We were very pleased with the service we received and will definitely call Blackburns Chimney Services in the future.

Ralph DeCoito and his assistant did an outstanding job of servicing our fireplace. They checked everything out and cleaned where necessary. He answered all of my questions. Our home was left clean, and we were left knowing that our fireplace is safe.

About 25 ago we used this company following a chimney fire and we were very happy with the work they did. We recently moved back to Central Ohio and had another company clean the chimney because that was who the prior resident used. We called Blackburn for a second opinion and felt that their assessment and the solution were better options for us. We had the gas logs removed and an insert put in today. Brad was fabulous about helping us select an insert--so many options! The installers today, Mel and PeeWee were efficient and personable. They have obviously been working together for a while as they seemed efficient and worked in tandem to get the insert installed. We love it already!

The professionalism is impressive. Cory explained in detail what they were going to do. He did a magnificent job on repairing the firebox. Levi was very efficient in installing the new pipe. They laid down tons of drop cloths and there was no dust in their process and they were very carefull to not disturb any landscaping. I am a very happy customer.

Mel, Zak and Pee Wee. Lol for real..... Did an amazing job. They fixed the exhaust pipe for our hot water heater which was the cause of a carbon monoxide alarm this morning.
Dare I say they saved our lives by finding the problem and resolving it in one day.
Thanks guys!

Upon a routine cleaning, Blackburn found cracks in my chimney tile. Their recommendation was a stainless-steel insert along with a few other fixes. The price was “jaw dropping.” As a result, I had one of their competitors come out and do an inspection (never hurts to get a second opinion). Without mentioning the Blackburn inspection, this new inspection uncovered the same issue. That inspector recommended an alternate treatment with a price that exceeded Blackburn. As an aside, Blackburn’s treatment (at lessor cost) had a life-time guarantee whereas the other treatment (at a greater cost) came with a 10-year guarantee.
Last Fall 2023, I “bit the bullet” and had the work done. Having the work done was the smartest thing I’ve ever done. Waiting to have the work done was the dumbest thing I’ve ever done. As for the cost, after seeing first-hand what the job entailed, I got it! It was worth it. As for the chimney’s draw last winter, never better.

It is now the Summer of 2024. If you’re reading through these Google Ratings to decide who to hire . . . stop. Just call Blackburns.
A big-name chimney service company (with a 4 star plus Google Rating) was hired by the previous home owner to service 3 fireplaces prior to my taking possession of the house. Mostly due to that company’s negligence (though in fairness, the flue systems were old), the tiles in 2 of the flues were completely damaged making the fireplaces unsafe for use. As Blackburns corrected my 3rd fireplace the previous fall, I naturally had them do the work.
Blackburns was able to correct the situation making the original fireboxes safely usable. By the way, “Correct the situation” is an understatement. In this home-owner’s eyes, what they actually did was nothing short of a miracle.
And, before you balk at the price – 1) The safety of your family is worth it, 2) Your home is probably your largest investment, 3) Once you actually see what the job entails, you’ll wonder why you’re not paying more. -
Trevor and Zach came out to inspect our gas fireplace as we were having issues. They determined there was no leak. However, the guys had issues lighting my fireplace which I have had the same ever since owning our home. I figured this was just a “me problem”. However, it turns out the started needs replaced. They also were kind enough to replace our silicon sand and recommend re-coating our chimney. Very thorough inspection. Plus, they found a piece of Santa’s suit on our chimney! The kids loved this little trophy.

Our fireplace & chimney is a nightmare. We bought a house in December 2023 and as it turns out the cap had been torn open by a storm years ago under the previous owners and water has been leaking down the chase for years. It has damaged the framing, the stucco, and the subfloor at the bottom.
Upon buying the house and doing a close inspection our number one priority was to stop the water infiltration and the damage before the rot became any more severe.
One of our first calls was Blackburns Chimney Services. Andy came out and did a very thorough inspection of the fireplace unit as well as the chimney cap and showed us pictures of the unfortunate damage.
After considering several local chimney service companies we decided to go with Blackburn's and coordinated with them the replacement after getting one comparable quote. Andy's description of how to fix the problem was very detailed and you can tell this man has YEARS of experience fixing similar problems.
Their quote was competitive with several other bids we received. I'm not gonna lie, it wasn't cheap, but in our situation (which was pretty bad), we wanted it fixed and done right. Andy and his tech did a great job with the replacement. He also provided us with pictures down the chase after they took the old cap off to show us the extent of the water damage to aid us in getting the rest of the repairs done.
I highly recommend this company, as they know what they are doing. If you have a house from the late 90's with a gas fireplace and steel chimney cap, get it checked by this company IMMEDIATELY. The way they used to install these back in the day they were prone to serious leaks. Be warned if it was as bad as ours you might be on the hook for very expensive repairs beyond the cap. -
Ralph D and Zac provided excellent and professional chimney sweep along with one year inspection services recently! I contracted with Blackburn Chimney to do complete stainless steel relining a year ago on 37 year old cracked ceramic chimney that was a fire hazard! Very cordial and answering my questions with a smile along with leaving areas spotless were much appreciated!

The team that arrived at my house were friendly and respectful. They even took the time to give my dogs some attention. They were very knowledgeable and gave me advice on how to prolong the life of my wood burning stove.

The two gentlemen that came from the Blackburn chimney service were very professional well kept and maintained minimal disturbance of the household and cleaned up well afterwards. They were able to advise and give professional opinions on the situation in regards to the chimney and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone! Sincerely Brian Blue

Mel and Peewee were punctual, professional and friendly. They fixed our gas fireplace switch and did a great job! Also, they explained how it happens over time and our fireplace works without the fire going out. I highly recommend Blackburn's Chinney Sweeps.
