Pond Magicians

We inherited a 30-year-old pond with a house we bought when we moved to Eugene. Raising koi was a dream and the pond was a huge part of the magic of living in this place that we love. It was the bleeding heart of our yard and garden. Not a year later an ice storm brought down a 200-foot tree right on top of the pond. It was the last straw for the pond, now leaking nearly 2000 gallons a day. After dozens of plumbers, contractors, and pond experts weren't able to find sources of the leak we were ready to fill it in with dirt and give up.

Ross at Sunset Winds Designs was referred to us by Jim Daichi and he changed everything. He and his crew studied the problem and painstakingly over months jackhammered out the old concrete pond and excavated by hand (our yard is too secluded by stairs and hills to allow heavy machinery) a proper 5000 gallon pond actually deep enough for koi, more than twice as deep. The new shell is gorgeous, with reinforced concrete and rebar mesh and something like 8 coats of sealant and skim coat that will last through the apocalypse. The pond doesn't leak a drop of water now, and he also retrofitted a beautiful waterfall which is also now useable and watertight.

Along the way, we got to know Ross and his crew. There aren't enough adjectives, but they are:

* Insanely hard working. Not sure I've ever seen anyone work that hard

* Meticulous with the tiniest details. Every rock was planned, sometimes 2 days of work just to get a boulder in exactly the perfect aesthetic position, working around weather to get the perfect conditions to pour concrete. Despite major construction, they did it around our new deck without a scratch

* True artists with a vision for aesthetic details, hiding plumbing, an eye for symmetry and when to break it, knowledgeable about so many techniques and where to use each

* Prolific communicators - constantly letting us know details of the work, always advising us when the work would be done, explaining in detail the methods, reviewing every setback and success.

* Honest, kind, extraordinary human beings. It's been a genuine pleasure to meet someone like Ross who is just an admirable person, and his crew follow his lead.

Fastforward to now we have the pond we always dreamed of - thanks to Ross and Sunset Winds. Happy to give anyone more detail or show off the pond. Ross can get you our number. Ours was a big job. I'm 100% confident that Ross can handle whatever you need at a fair price with truly expert results.

Viking just finished a beautiful design for our front yard. They installed an irrigation system along with with landscaping (plants, boulders, bark). They were always on-time and very responsive. I feel that their prices were competitive. I am more than happy with the outcome and will definitely use them for any future projects and ongoing maintenance. I highly recommend them for anyone interested in a local, reputable and professional landscaping design.

I hope no one falls for this guy’s fake interest! He led me on for 3 months, using one excuse after another for not starting the job. First of all he said his office manager was out and he was stuck doing her job also. Then he had truck problems. Then it was the weather, which was the only thing I understood. He kept giving me start dates and they never happened and then quoted me over $11,000 to build a very short walkway and steps leading to my front door. I’m disabled and haven’t had a front entry point to my house for 4 months and I kept believing his lies! He said he has years and years of experience but then used the excuse that he’s only been in business for himself for 3 years so is just learning how to schedule. Don’t use him unless you have money to burn and want to wait for a ridiculous amount of time to get any work done!

Matt and his crew just finished a 3-week job renovating our backyard terraces, and we couldn't be happier. They turned a soggy, muddy, terraced mess into a living and entertainment space that's functional, durable, and stunningly beautiful. They were reliable, highly skilled, had excellent communication and work ethic, and made it really easy for us to get exactly what we wanted from the project. We're already looking forward to another project with Viking Landscape.

I used another company to design and build a waterfall. I then used Viking to fix this waterfall. When I contacted Matt I was sorry ever did this project; I had leaks and the overall design was just poor. So I got 3 quotes: One was slightly less than Viking and the 3rd was over double what Viking quoted. Matt and his crew did a beautiful job. They did the entire job in a week when I was expecting this to take at least 2. I wish I had known about Matt 3 years ago. But now that I know about them I will use them for anything I need. These guys are great.

Matt and his team did an entire backyard redesign for us in 3 weeks. Including putting in new drainage to fix our winter flooding issues. Also built a fenced area with raised garden beds, a flagstone path and several wonderful dry creek bed areas. Matt was very knowledgeable and had great ideas for the design. His team is a great group of guys that work their hardest everyday. I would definitely use VIking Landscape & Design again.
