Reviews of local pros in Carnegie, Pennsylvania

Mike was extremely professional and receptive to all that my husband and I sought for our backyard project. His crew workers were exceptional and wonderful to work with; consistent and vigilant. We had two separate projects completed in an incredibly short amount of time and the quality was impeccable. Highly recommend Schellhaas Landscape Construction for any of your needs or desires. We will most definitely use them in the future for any additional work!

Mike was great to work with. He was very knowledgeable about the process, stuck to his estimate and time line and delivered beautiful retaining walls. Mike and his crew were very professional, punctual, courteous and cleaned up the work site every day! I would recommend Schellhaas to anyone.

Schellhaas Landscape Construction completed an addition to our existing patio to accommodate a fire pit bowl. Mike and his crew were professional, knowledgeable, detail oriented, considerate, and personable from the beginning to the end of the project. Mike provided a detailed bid, assisted with the patio design, helped me choose pavers, and was always available to answer questions. The quality of the work was outstanding and everything was done to perfection. We are so happy with the new patio. I would definitely recommend Schellhaas Landscaping and hope to work with Mike and his team in the future.

Mike’s crew did a phenomenal job. Everything was perfect and we couldn’t be more excited about our new backyard. He is so reasonable and his team does high quality professional work. Everything was done on time and to perfection. I would highly recommend Schellhass landscaping. It was so worth what we paid and we are so happy that they were able to give us more backyard for the kids and a beautiful backyard area to have friends over to.
They are an absolutely wonderful team of individuals; the hardest working nicest people you could ever find. Excellent work, highly dependable and high quality professional work.

Top notch company! Mike worked with us to design and build our new driveway retaining wall. We had envisioned a straight retaining wall but Mike worked with us to design and build a piece of art. The crew was great as well and they finished the job in a very timely manner. Don't hesitate using Schellhaas for any of your construction needs. Fantastic work and Mike is a pleasure to work with.

We had a great experience working with Schellhaas on a major project: large retaining wall, replacing an existing deck with a paver stone patio, additional concrete work, and new landscaping. The design process exceeded our expectations - Mike put together a great plan based on our goals and budget, and the 3D design he created helped us visualize different options and come up with the best solution. Once the project began, Mike and his team were thorough and professional with excellent communication throughout. We are thrilled with the final result, and can't wait to enjoy our new and improved back yard this summer!

Thank you Mike Schellhaas and Team. Working with Mike, and the J. Francis Company, was such a pleasurable and easy experience. The results speak for themselves. No words necessary. Meticulous, caring and conscientious attention to detail. Nothing missed. A true professional. Our house, from front to back, looks incredible. The exterior French Drainage works - The house is bone dry. Your complete replacement of the two front retaining walls and new driveway make the house look regal. The lighting in the driveway and front yard make access safe and a breeze. Thank you for everything - You are a true professional and the best. Good luck with the new family and house! Mike S.

We hired Shellhaas Landscaping to complete a major retaining wall, front entrance, and driveway project in early 2021. From beginning to end Mike and his crew were the ultimate professionals and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. During the initial walk-down, Mike took his time, asked questions, and took meticulous measurements to submit an accurate proposal which was right in line with the other bids we received. In addition to his attention to detail during bidding, their some-what unexpected immediate available solidified the decision to award the work to Schellhaas.
During construction we had the same crew leader and nearly all the same workers throughout the duration of the work. The crew arrived consistently on time and cleaned up at the conclusion of each work day. Work was completed on time and within the budget quoted; a small change order we requested was the only deviation from the original quote.
As far as quality, not enough can be said. The materials chosen (actually recommended by Schellhaas) and the quality of installation are impeccable and we consistently get compliments from our neighbors.
Our only regret is that Schellhaas only does hardscapes as we would gladly hire them for other projects! Their attention to detail and customer service should serve as a model to all contractors!

My Review for Schellhaas LC.

I began planning on extending my driveway in March. I also had a retaining wall that was 20 years old and caving in. Since I was going to go ahead with finding a company to do the work I also added a set of steps to the plan.
I had an estimate from Mike Shellhaas LC which included a digital design that Mike does for his customers.
Mike and his team began the job and showed up early every day and worked all day with little noise or interruptions unless we needed to review any changes.
I can honestly say that I am very happy with the professionalism and dedication Schellhaas and his team showed during the entire job start to finish.
I would personally recommend this company for any retaining wall, concrete, steps, etc. that you may need done. They are very hard working and easy to work with.
If you want to get an estimate, I recommend contacting Mike Schellhaas company before you choose a contractor. You won’t be sorry. Thanks Mike, Tommy and Christian. Great work.

Mike and his team far exceeded my expectations in both service and delivery of the final outcome. He and his crew operate with outmost professionalism and diligence. They started my large wall project in February of 2018. We experienced many days of inclement weather that did not stop them! They showed up, shoveled 8 inches of snow off the wall and started working hard. I am truly impressed by Mike and his crew! I would not hesitate to refer Mike to close friends and family. If you are interested in a landscaping project and want a great experience and a quality outcome, you need to call Schellhaas Landscape.

I chose to give Schellhaas five stars for several reasons. They do great work as shown in the photos, and his crew takes their craft very seriously. It was very reassuring for a work crew to show up and not be composed of rotating day laborers with minimal experience. The installers are very knowledgeable and take the time to do the job correctly and don't mind taking time to explain what they are doing (if asked). Also, Mike, the owner, is very responsive and keeps communication open. He returns phone calls, e-mails, or texts in a very timely manner which is tough to find in a contractor. He also bids jobs appropriately. Too often contractors underbid a project just to hit you with expensive change orders at the end. This did not happen. Any issues that occurred during the project were very clearly discussed, and options provided. They are my first call for all projects going forward.

The entire Schellhaas crew was great to work with for my new driveway retaining walls! After meeting at the South Hills Home Show, Mike came out that week in person to review the scope of work and provide an estimate. During the entire process there was always great communication with Mike directly and his crew on site. Not only was the workmanship outstanding as you can see in the picture. each day the equipment was stored nicely on my property and the worksite was cleaned up. The crew was always respectful and didn’t mind answering my questions. I would definitely recommend Schellhaas for your landscape construction needs!

We recently had the pleasure of working with Mike Schellhaas and Schellhass Landscape Construction, LLC on a paver patio, grill island, and fire pit project, and the results exceeded all our expectations.   We met Mike at the South Hills Home Show at Cool Springs, and from our initial meeting to the final touches, his professionalism and attention to detail was outstanding.

The design process was seamless, and Mike provided us with professional 3D designs and offered creative solutions that perfectly matched our vision.   Mike carefully considered our space and provided expert advice on materials and layout, ensuring that the final product was both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

The construction team was punctual, courteous, and incredibly skilled. They worked efficiently while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship. The patio is beautifully finished with high-quality materials, providing a durable and stylish space for outdoor entertaining. The grill island is not only a practical addition but also a stunning centerpiece, complete with all the features we wanted. The fire pit has quickly become our favorite spot for gatherings and relaxation.

Overall, Schellhaas Landscape Construction, LLC delivered an exceptional outdoor space that we are thrilled with. Their expertise, dedication, and commitment to quality have made this project a resounding success. We highly recommend them to anyone looking to enhance their outdoor living area.

Mike and his team transformed our small, unusable "back yard" into our personal paradise. We initially talked to him at the Pittsburgh Home Show and called him to come out and provide a quote for the construction of a retaining wall and back patio. The project expanded to include wide stone steps from the back door, installation of a 14 x 16 pergola with canopy, and an outdoor fireplace on one end of the patio, as well as landscaping around the fireplace. Mike worked with us at every step to choose materials, understand options, and provide a fair cost for the exceptional work that was provided. He was here every day with his team, and kept us up to date on their progress and estimated date for completion. We're thrilled with how the patio project turned out, and would absolutely recommend Mike and his team!

Schellhaas Landscape Construction did a fantastic job with our project. We hired them to redo our whole backyard including a patio, retaining wall, and landscaping. From the first contact they were great to work with. The owner is extremely responsive, willing to talk through designs, and very helpful. Additionally the crew was friendly, professional, and got the job done. We are thrilled with the result of our project and our choice to use Schellhaas. I would highly recommend them to anyone searching for the right company for their project.

Mike helps to design and bring to life the most stunning, custom outdoor oasis for your home! Include a fire pit, outdoor kitchen, beautiful paver patios and add your own person touch! The absolute best in outdoor living!!

I can’t speak to the workmanship as we wanted a quote for our retaining wall. However, I was very put aback by the fact that, not only was the guy giving the estimate almost an hour late, without a call, he spent 5 minutes at the house before he said he was going to give a quote. He didn’t go over block options, nothing!! Horrible. I believe in reliability and promptness as well as telling us what our options are. Unfortunately, as a result, we will not be using Schellhaas for our needs.

Excellent workmanship, fair prices, great service.

Hired Schellhaas LC multiple times now, including the design and installation of an outdoor living space that transformed my backyard. Mike's crews handled the 3D design and installation of an outdoor kitchen, built-in gas grill, stone fire pit, wooden pergola, low-voltage electrical ground lighting, paver patio and walkways, playground area, retaining and sitting walls, french drains, hard- and soft-scaping, and associated permits, electrical, and gas.

Quality of workmanship is top-notch. It's been three years since Mike's first job for me, and the masonry corners are still as perfectly square and plumb as the day the job finished.

Prices are fair. I bid each one of my jobs across several landscapers, and while some contractors came in lower, Mike clearly had the best knowledge of exactly what the job would require. You get what you pay for.

Service is exceptional. Not just during the job, but long after the last invoice is signed. Mike has followed up to make sure the polymeric sand withstood Pittsburgh freeze-and-thaw cycles, fixed low-voltage lamps the kids knocked out (no charge), and responded quickly to design preferences during the initial set up.

Would hire again.

Including a few pictures from some of the jobs Schellhaas has done, including a couple "before" pictures so you can see how much work was done by this great crew.

We chose Schellhaas because of Mike's (the owner) professionalism, vision for the wall, and price. Mike was also the only one to follow up with us after giving the initial estimate. His team was respectful, always on time, and hard working. We had a couple concerns during the process, but Mike and his team were always willing to work with us. If you're in the market for a new retaining wall, I would highly recommend giving Mike a call!

Mike and his crew are great to work with. Our job (a tiered retaining wall, stone patio, privacy fence, and lawn work) took about 3 weeks to complete, durring which communication was excellent. His crew was knowledgeable, respectful of the property, kept the work area tidy, and extremely professional. Mike had great design ideas and assisted us with every step of the process. They came back afterwards to fix one thing that we weren't 100% happy with even after the project was complete. I wouldn't hestitate to recommend Schellhaas to friends and family, and will definitely contact them first for any future hardscape needs.

Mike was a great partner throughout every phase of my project. He worked with me to find the right combination of design and materials to fit my budget. Then he and his team did a fantastic job on the installation. I was very pleased with the process and the end result, and I would highly recommend Schellhaas to anyone!
