The Sylvan Gardens team recently relocated a patio and installed sod in our backyard. They were reasonably priced compared to other bids and were great to work with. Will definitely look to use them again for landscaping projects in the future.

Brian and his crew were very professional, timely and worked very hard. He continues to monitor the progress of our plantings and will replace any that didn't quite make it. It is hard to find trustworthy and reliable landscapers but Sylvan exceeded our expectations!

We had a HUGE pile of leaves (a dump-truck or more) on our driveway (which I blew there with a leafblower from around the house). We paid a lot of money to get them removed last year. I put a request on Home Advisor, and got only one response--from the guy who did it last year. I flagged John down when he was in the neighborhood, and he said he could do the job. He and his crew arrived today when they said they would and finished the job in less than a hour. They were fast and efficient. Very pleased with their services, and hope to hire them for our other landscaping needs.

Sylvan Gardens has serviced two of our properties these past two years. Their landscape designs have added so much value and overall curb appeal. Their workmanship is top quality. You as a purchaser will get a great return on your investment.

They did such an amazing job. They executed the design I was hoping for, offered great recommendations on plants, and provided amazing service and installation. They were incredibly responsive, showed up when they said they would, and created a beautiful landscape design we are so happy with.

I cannot say enough great things about Sylvan! Brian met with us (several times) to come up with a design for our small backyard that was essentially unusable because of a weeded hillside and swampy yard.

Most other landscapers came out, took one look, and said "put in a retaining wall" and gave us outrageous prices. Brian's plan took into account that a retaining wall would most likely fail because of the amount of water coming off of the hillside. His plan that included a boulder wall and dry creek bed is perfect!

Our crew was headed by Guillermo and they were awesome! My husband and I couldn't wrap our heads around how they were going to do it even as it was shaping up. Their skills and knowledge amazed us and we still can't believe what they pulled off.

Working with Sylvan was great! Out of all the other companies I received quotes from, I'm so glad I chose Sylvan. The guys on the project were all equally accommodating, kind, knowledgeable, and hardworking and they graciously and patiently worked with me through all my questions and indecision. I would say the same about the customer representative I worked with - plus, his communication was always super thorough and very prompt. Throughout the process, I felt like I could be completely comfortable being honest - they were always willing to partner with me to figure out a solution that suited everyone. Overall, I'm really pleased with the project!

Brian was very professional and thorough in explaining his proposal for our new patio. He explained everything in great detail. His crew worked very hard and definitely knew what they were doing. Sylvan Garden Landscapes took our ideas for our backyard and provided a great visual design of the final product. Brian and his team were very professional and we appreciated the open communication from the start of the project all the way through until completion. Other contractors we spoke to indicated poor access to complete the project, but Sylvan had no issues bringing in all the necessary materials and equipment. Brian answered all the questions we had and was very knowledgeable talking us through the process. Along with a good amount of river rock that needed removed they were very courteous during clean up and even removed all the fallen leaves in our backyard without us asking. Our project included French drains, a sidewalk, small patio and redefined mulch beds with plantings and stepping stones. The final product turned out even better than we envisioned. We highly recommend Sylvan Landscapes given the pleasant experience we had and would definitely use them for any future landscaping projects.

We recently hired Sylvan Gardens to do a general cleanup of our yard including trimming, removing/replacing shrubs and mulching. Not only were they professional and courteous, but they were hard workers and did an outstanding job. We look forward to future projects with John and his staff.

Absolutely wonderful experience working with this company! They basically took our brown barren wasteland of a front yard into a green and lush picture perfect landscape overnight. The team was hardworking and extremely professional. We've received so many compliments since the completion of our project on not only how great it looks; but, also just how efficient the team was! Also, anytime I had a question leading up to the start of our project I could expect an email back within a day if not within a few hours of sending a message. Sylvan Gardens has completed several projects for us with varying levels of complexity. Each time, the crews have exceeded our expectations with amazing results. The crew is very professional and courteous. They verify the intent of the work requested and seek clarification if they are unsure of any of the requested items. Neighbors have also remarked on their professional and courtesy. In addition to the crew, Brian Friend is well-versed in the landscaping industry and understands the client’s request. He and his crew will make things right in the event something is not quite as requested.

Great experience so far working with Sylvan Gardens. They have completed two of three mini-projects so far. Easy to schedule with, great communicators, and all around good people. I worked with John first to talk through the projects and get the quotes and then John and Zach (project manager) both arrived to recap and talk through each job the morning of, before things kicked off to reconfirm all details (I appreciated that). Zach and two guys coordinated most of the work onsite and did a great job. We had a mid-sized yard grading job (before another company installed a fence), planting of green giant trees and a few shrubs and grasses. They also installed a drainage basin off the corner of my driveway to help solve a water issue on heavy rains. Looking forward to our third job in the Spring. Great crew!

Based on overwhelmingly positive google reviews, we went with Sylvan Gardens for landscaping our home in Upper St Clair over 2 years, but our experience was truly disappointing. Although Brian and the crew were courteous and easy to work with, the quality of plants that were planted were extremely poor. We lost more than 50% of the plants within 12 months and although Sylvan replaced them in Year 2, the same were lost again within 12 months. When we contacted Brian, instead of trying to assess the root cause as to why the plants were not thriving, he told us that they only give 12 months guarantee and there was nothing they could do. Please be careful of the quality and type of plants they use and ensure you clarify the expectations. Would not recommend.

I can't say enough good things about John Friend and his team. We've used them for spring cleanup the last few years and they did a fantastic job. This year we needed to do some additional landscape repair and replanting after we redid our deck. The work that they did was incredible! It looks amazing and is exactly right for the area. The team is very professional and easy to work with. I highly recommend them.

My husband and I recently built a home and were looking to landscape our front, back, and side yards starting from basically scratch. Had yard work done with this company. It was overpriced! (about 30% higher compared to the other company)Also be prepared the final bill is way over the estimate. Please read the contract carefully, I had to hire other contractor to finish the work. Not worth it.

Sylvan does some of the BEST work in the business and I will choose them every time! Their staff creates incredible designs, are responsive and professional, and deliver as promised. I have worked with them for several years now - they gave me the most beautiful lawn and most recently added a patio extension with garden beds. They completely brought the rendering to life and I couldn’t be happier!!
