We purchased a home almost a year ago and had an extensive outdoor project on our hand. At the time, we contacted several landscapers for a consultation/quote and encouraged each to give us their best recommendation. Given that we spend so much time outside, it was important to us that our landscape be aesthetically pleasing.

Unfortunately, none of the landscapers “wowed” us with their pitch, at least not until we turned to Gardenalia. Although Gardenalia has a consultation fee, we expected the level of creativity and attention to detail to be taken up a notch, and that’s exactly what we discovered. We were visited by Patrizia who shared her wealth of knowledge about gardening and landscaping. She noticed things that didn’t even occur to us – potential areas of erosion and water pooling, quality of the soil, where the sun travels, and what types of foliage would thrive best under these conditions – and she queried us about our own preferences (colors, scents, inspiration, etc.). After taking photos and spending some time to herself carefully evaluating our area, she went back to her studio and started crafting a design plan.

After a few months of planning and occasional questions, she presented to us her vision and we were blown away at the attention to detail. She factored in not only the surrounding environment but even the change of seasons, perspective from all angles, and potential wildlife/disease complications, strategically selecting and placing every single plant, shrub, and tree in the area to maximize beauty and survival.

While originally intended to be a multi-phase project, we found ourselves so in love with the design that we impatiently opted to have the whole thing executed at once so that we could enjoy it as soon as possible. Although you own the design that Gardenalia creates and have the freedom to select who installs it and when, we decided to work with Gardenalia’s partner given comfort, familiarity, and long-standing working relationships. There was absolutely no pressure to do this; rather, it was a decision made by us because we felt a comfort level there.

We’re pleased to report that the installation was executed this week, and the work that Gardenalia and their partner has done has been nothing short of amazing. They’ve taken an eroded hillside filled with weeds and turned it into a backyard paradise. From every angle, spectators can appreciate the beauty of Patrizia’s design, and we find just walking around back there is practically therapeutic. We’ve received numerous compliments from our neighbors, and we’re excited to show off our new surroundings to friends and family.

I've known Patrizia since college and I knew she was a landscape designer in the United States so I asked her suggestions for a lot I purchased here in the north of Italy. She not only suggested beautiful plants but also gave me a napkin sketch with the layout of the plants. I'm honestly impressed with how she created such a simple yet beautiful design from a Google aerial view and a few pictures of the lot in such a short time.

We used Gardenalia to design and install a landscaping plan on a tight city lot with some challenging site constraints. They listened to our priorities and came up with a plan that maximized our lot. They used some of our favorite plants, but also suggested ones that we weren’t even aware of. The installation was well done. I would recommend them to anyone!

We dont have a yard: Just a few raised beds behind our row house, that are pretty difficult to access. The folks at Gardenalia did a great job personalizing something for my unique space, including moving dirt, mulch, and plants, where they needed them to be (which is no small feat!) They put our plants in in late fall, and this spring and summer we've been gradually been getting to see the fruits of all their labor: The colors are gorgeous and everything's thriving-- plus we're getting lots of pollinators, as promised! I loved that they provided plans for everything they planted, complete with info on the flowers and details about how to take care of them. I'd definitely recommend Gardenalia for this type of work; we're very happy with our results!

My wonderful city townhouse came with a private walled patio, but unfortunately the entire surface was brick with no place to create a garden. After reading about Gardenalia online, I asked Patrizia to design a garden bed in one corner of the courtyard. Her design looked great, and I got on the waiting list. To my surprise, Patrizia contacted me much earlier than expected, while I was out of town, and let me know they could do the work that week. I was thrilled to return to a lovely garden space all ready to plant, with guidance from Patrizia's suggested plant layout. Even though I won't have everything in the ground before winter, the view from inside is already transformed. This was small project of course, but I have every confidence that a larger one would be equally successful. Highly recommended!

We bought my childhood home last summer and desperately needed to update the old shaded backyard into a space we actually wanted to spend time in. After researching some landscaping options, I came across Patrizia and Gardenalia and was very impressed by their reviews and images of their work. From the start, Patrizia was nothing but professional and accommodating. She came up with a great plan for a shade tolerant garden in our backyard. We installed the first half in the fall and the second half this spring and we have loved it ever since. Our backyard is now a space we look forwarding to using on a daily basis. Gardenalia redesigned our front yard and supplied the plants; we installed them ourselves. Patrizia understood our priorities (ideally low-maintenance, beautiful, long-lasting, and also friendly to the local ecosystem) and designed a lovely planting plan that checked every box.

I appreciated her flexibility: the design plan included price estimates for ordering the plants through Gardenalia with or without installation. She also provided helpful advice on sourcing the plants (and substitutions) if we decided not to order through them, and about planting.

Patrizia's design is so much better than anything we could have cobbled together through pinterest/gardening books/asking my grandmother and was well worth the cost. If you want beautiful landscaping but find the thought of researching/selecting plants yourself exhausting (like I do), work with Gardenalia!!

We originally had a design consultation where we walked through our yard and gave Patrizia our vision of less lawn space and more pollinator-friendly plants. She helped us identify what we currently had in our yard and how we could transform our space. Pat gives a detailed maintenance guide for your plants so you know just how to care for them in each season. It was such a pleasure to work with her and her team! They just completed work on our front, side, and backyard spaces and we’re so pleased with the result.

We had originally planned to do a hardscape-heavy upgrade, but based on cost and instinct went with a landscape based upgrade instead and are so glad we did. Patrizia is very talented and creative and her crew very capable. The hardscape elements were handled well and at reasonable cost. We began working with Gardenalia last season. Patrizia’s design was spectacular! She really knows how to select beautiful, indigenous plants that complement each other — in colors, textures, and the rhythm of changes through the season. The Gardenalia team also does excellent, expert maintenance on the garden, and puts the same hard work into snow removal in winter. And no more bothering our neighbors with noisy lawn mowers or leaf blowers! We’ve asked Patrizia to expand her design vision into a new section this year and we’re looking forward to enjoying the whole garden as everything grows together over the years.

We are so lucky to have found Gardenalia and Pat! She offered a landscape-based solution for our 2-level yard that dramatically cut down on renovation costs, and it happens to be much more beautiful. The plants are interesting and varied. From the initial consultation, in the design process, and pre- and post-installation, she always listened and provided prompt answers to our questions and requests. Rutkowski Landscaping was easy to schedule with and quickly provided a job quote. We had our entire font and back yard cleared of weeds, grass, unwanted shrubs and plants. They were also able to remove our tree stump after being told by other companies it was impossible to get a stump grinder up steps. Fabric was laid well and a really good amount of mulch coverage. The job was completed professionally, timely, and they helped us make decisions to best suit our yard needs. I would certainly reach out again for any future projects.

They cut my grass today and did a fabulous job. So happy my son hired them.
