Landscaping reviews in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

They were able to get my yard cut on very short notice when I was out of town. Would definitely recommend these guys to anyone.

This is my first summer using this company, so far everything has been great. They do a wonderful job at an affordable price. I would recommend!
-
Very happy with the service! A great value to keep my lawn trimmed and weeds in check. I also had my hedges trimmed. They were very quick and did an excellent job.
-
The owner of the company was very efficient and made it easy to coordinate a time for my lawn to be serviced. The company went above and beyond and I would definitely recommend anyone to use the service. Also pricing is very competitive for the work being performed.

This is so wonderful. My 95 year old dad, a veteran, lives alone and I try my best to take care of him to keep him in his home. I have multiple health problems so cutting his grass was always a problem. Thank you guys so much for your excellent work!

John is an angel to me. He cut my grass and did a fine job. No complaints. He does what I ask and I appreciate him. It is nice to have someone that listens to your requests.

I usually try not to leave negative reviews, but I am hoping this company reads this review and takes action to correct the issues I had.
First off, I contacted this company because I am a disabled veteran and figured it would be nice to have my yard professionally cleaned up for once. So, when I saw that this company works with veterans, I reached out.
So I sent them a text which is my preferred means of communication so I was happy that they work with text messages. I explained to him that I just wanted my grass cut and some weeds removed. I was told someone would reach out to me from their front office to set a date, so I waited patiently. A couple of days later, I got a text telling me that someone would be at my house on the 7th of October. I waited around all morning with no communication until I reached out to find out they had an emergency, and they asked if it would be okay if someone could stop by at 10:30 a.m. on October 8th. To my surprise, 10:30 came and went, and no one stopped by. Then, 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, 2:30, and still no one. I finally reached out and was told that someone was dispatched but went to the wrong address. The only mention of my yard was me asking if someone would be over on Monday, October 9th. That text message was never answered.
With all that being said, I sadly cannot recommend this company. My advice to the company is please stay in touch with your potential clients. A client shouldn't be held responsible to track you down. I understand that mistakes are made but when they are made please work to find a solution suitable for all parties. -
John and crew are a godsend! My job is crazy busy and even though I would love to be the type of person who maintains her yard, I come home after work, and I’m just too exhausted to do it! John seems to read my mind because just when the lawn is getting out of control, he just shows up out of the blue to maintain it. I highly recommend his company.

We hired John to help tame and maintain the yard at a property we were selling as well as designing a weed control solution for an hill/retaining wall along the driveway. Working with John was a breeze! He’s responsive, enthusiastic about his work and gives his all. Highly recommend hiring him for your grass cutting and landscaping needs.

Unfortunately I have to update this review. Things started off great. My grass was cut twice. Then he didn't show up for 3 weeks. Yet when i text him to see if i was on list for that he day, he responded immediately saying he would be there that day, but never showed that day or the next. This is how you conduct a business? Original review: I just starting using Landscaping Solutions. John has responded immediately when I have contacted him and kept in contact with me to let me know when he will be here to cut my grass. He is very personable, has been doing a great job and is doing it a price that I, as a senior citizen, can afford. I am very pleased so far.

John was tremendous. He did an outstanding job on our lawn and explained every step of the process. He even went above and beyond dealing with vines and stubborn ground cover. It was a genuine pleasure working with John--a very good guy. We will have Landscaping Solutions back for other projects.

I constantly had to have him fix things and finish the mowing. They only actually cut the whole yard properly once. Then he left the yard half cut and never returned.

Please listen to the bad reviews - they aren't one offs. This company is not trust worthy and they will eventually ghost you after overcharging for horrible quality. Paid a high price for lawn cut and weeding - we were met with 100 excuses like they had the wrong equipment, they missed a mulch bed, etc. etc. They said they'd come back and fix it for free and they never showed up and never responded again. Of course, gladly took our money though.

Truly I do not know what my sister and I would have done without John and his team. Our mother unexpectedly died and we were trying our best to secure services before we incurred fines for neglected property. Her lawn and property were in bad shape and people kept turning down the job. We must have called 9 different companies and they all rejected us since the property was either out of their location or they had maxed out their clients (this was the height of summer!)
I called John and he had initially mentioned that the property was too far away and they weren't able to take on the job. After explaining our situation to John (and near tears!), he accepted the job and helped my sister and me through an incredibly difficult time in our life. Because of his compassion and empathy, we were able to focus on our grief instead of spending additional time trying to work out ways in which we could manage her property while living out of state.
If you are reading this review and on the lookout for securing services, please know that if you end up going with this company you a) can expect clear communication and stellar upkeep of your landscaping needs and b) are supporting a beautiful mission and dream (John intends to offers services to those in need and plans to start this initiative as a 501c3 when the time is right).
I cannot recommend this company enough. You are in incredible hands. John and his team's altruism does not go unnoticed. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

I hired this company for ongoing lawn maintenance work, and I regret it. Their initial quote included removing a small bush, trimming around my mulch beds, weed removal, and grass cutting.
I was unsatisfied with their work, because they didn’t remove weeds, or do any trimming. They also left my lawn with many clumps of grass totally uncut — little bushels standing tall all over the yard as well as entire strips of grass that they missed.
They promised to come back and do the trimming later and clean up the lawn but after several attempts to get them to commit to a day to come back, I gave up and found someone else. -
If I could give zero stars, I would.
I initially reached out to this company because our usual lawn care provider was unavailable for a month and decided the one property was just to much with his limited availability. John was very responsive and came across as professional at first. I sent over a clear scope of work by text, and he said he’d drive by both properties to provide a quote. He also asked if the lawn was over 6 inches, and I told him it was probably close. (We cut the lawn ourselves between the quote and when he showed up)
He quoted $100—which I assumed meant he had seen the property. We agreed to move forward, and he said he’d be out on July 6. The next day, he pushed the work to July 11 or 13. He did come by on the 13th but left due to rain. He returned on the 14th and spoke with my husband—at which point the price inexplicably jumped to $350. He told me husband he would mulch and weed our three garden beds. We really just needed the lawn done, so we agreed.
The quality of work, however, was disappointing, but I let it go so we could just have someone who would be reliable.
The garden beds were neither weeded nor mulched, as he said he need to chat with his wife on what to actually weed.
Several sections of the lawn were missed.
An entire side of the hedges was left untouched.
We had agreed to weekly mowing at one property and biweekly at the other. On July 21 (because I had told him I wanted weekly and that was a week later), we checked in and were told he’d be by the 27th. He no-showed, possibly due to light rain that lasted less than an hour. We followed up again on the 30th and were told he’d come on the 31st—another no-show. After reaching out again on August 1 to ask for an itemized breakdown of the $350 and when he would be back, he became defensive, suggesting we drop him as a customer and claiming he “cut us a deal” on the mowing. He said his usual rate is $80–$90, but quoted us less because the lawn is flat. For the record, we never negotiated price—he named it. He also didn't offer a cost breakdown as requested.
He then offered to weed the garden and part ways. I said I didn’t care about the garden—I just wanted the lawn mowed and hedges properly done. He quoted $200 this time (so I guess he charges $120 for hedge work?). When I asked for a partial refund for the wedding that was never done, he refused, saying he wouldn’t refund for “3–5 minutes of work.”. If the lawn and hedges were $200, I’m left wondering what exactly we paid $350 for in the first place. My guess is that what he claims is 3-5 minutes of work. He later messaged to state the charge was significant because of our back parking pad that is "Seriously overgrown", it was weed whacked with no care, and is maybe a 30 ft x 20 ft space, if that. This section was in my initial text for which the quote should've been for.
At the end of the day, this felt like a bait-and-switch. Between the no-shows, missed areas, and changing prices, it’s been a frustrating experience. I’ll be attaching photos showing the hedges he partially cut—including growth from the previous trimming (two weeks before his visit) and spots he didn’t touch at all.
I wouldn’t recommend this company. -
We moved into a new home with a small backyard that needed a total redo and we needed advice on how to make the most of the space. The team at Local Roots was amazing from conception to completion! They created a wonderful outdoor patio and yard area that made the space feel so much bigger. This team is easy to work with, very reasonably priced and are just hard working peeps. We couldn’t it be happier with the final product. A++!

Jason did a great job with aeration and dethatching of our lawn and installing seasonal silt fence for protecting our new shrubs this winter.
He also took some time to give me a couple of tips for taking care of other plants on our property. Thank you! -
Jason, John, Leroy and Kendall have done a great job communicating, planning and implementing a maintenance program for our turf. The owner Patrick is easy to talk to and is very polite and accommodating.

Local Roots Landscaping did a wonderful job in erecting a wall and garden area for our residence. From Mollie initially coming to meet with us to the completion of the project, we were very pleased with the professionalism, knowledge, and courtesy shown by all that were involved in the project. We would definitely recommend Local Roots for any landscaping project.

I love Local Roots! They overhauled my front yard last fall, and created a beautiful garden for me this spring. Everyone who works for them has been very professional, and the manager, Patrick, has been great to work with. They also are happy to break your project down into stages to make sure it's affordable for you.
My front yard is a steep hillside, and needed to be completely gutted. Patrick's team gave me an estimate for clearing and removal, and emailed me a list of plants for approval to install. They made it easy to swap out plants I didn't want--I swapped some rose bushes for hydrangeas--and got everything cleared and planted in a couple of days. They continue to maintain my front yard for a reasonable monthly fee, and I'm super happy.
For the back yard, I worked with their design team to have a full garden/landscape design created. There is a fee up front for design work, but it's worth it! I sent them pictures of gardens I liked for inspiration, and they gave me the cottage garden of my dreams. Again, they sent me a proposal and estimate, with an overhead sketch of what my garden would look like. Again, they also sent the list and plants and flowers they planned on including in my garden for my approval. Once everything was agreed upon, it only took them a few days to get everything installed.
I recommend Local Roots to friends and family all the time. They are friendly, professional, and accommodating, and they really saved me from a horrible struggle with weeds and brush. Thanks guys 😊
