Remodeler reviews across the US

Straight up horrible and nasty customer service! Called wanting was a rep to come out and the witch in the office basically told me that they were not within my budget when they rates clearly were! They clearly didn't want to do the job and rather than suggestion we contact someone else, she made me feel like we weren't able to pay! UNPROFESSIONAL!!!

Red House Remodeling completed a major re-do for us, combining two bathrooms into one master bathroom. Their assistance from design thru construction was excellent and done by very caring and competent staff including their subcontractors. We would highly recommend Red House Remodeling and would use them again.

Red House did a remodel on our kitchen, we were very happy with the process. Ben and his team provide great communication through all phases of the remodel. They were upfront with pricing and were able to deal with any challenges that came up during construction.

We built our dream home in 1983 and raised our four children in it. Like nine people out of ten in America, we want to live out the rest of our years in our home. Having preemptively purchased long term care insurance to help pay for future in-home medical and support services, we also understood the need to remodel a portion of our multi-level home so that we could live on one floor, when future personal mobility issues would become a factor in our daily living routines.
We visited with a number of remodeling contractors at several home shows and chose Red House Remodeling (RHR). Located in Valley Junction in West Des Moines, Iowa, they are a small company of five highly competent individuals that take pride in doing great work and experience a sense of accomplishment from making positive changes in the lives of their customers.
Ben, as the contractor, is an honest and direct communicator. He is a systemic thinker, process driven, and highly organized, which mitigated hassles for us and allowed RHR to come in on budget. He was always willing to take the time necessary for us to understand the reasons for any pandemic related delays. COVID-19 has been a huge challenge, as supply chain disruptions have caused certain materials to be out of stock, creating delays in construction. Ben communicated these issues on a timely basis.
Stephanie handles administration and marketing for the company. She was prompt and courteous in our requests for information.
Jenna, using 3D software, helped us create and visualize the finished project months before the demolition and construction of our home actually began. She paid close attention to our wish list while providing a young professional’s perspective on what it would take to modernize our home. She provided attractive “Plan B” alternatives when COVID related delays forced us to look for different materials to install
Chris and Troy are highly skilled construction professionals, that excel in doing quality work in an efficient manner.
RHR was a great fit for our project. They understand what is needed to make a home viable for aging in place. We were very comfortable working with them.
Finally, for anyone considering home renovation, it’s important to be flexible and willing to tolerate disruption when living in your house during the construction process. We found that the beautiful finished product was well worth the temporary inconvenience.

We had a great experience with Red House Remodeling! They did a kitchen remodel for us and it transformed our whole main floor! We had a wall removed to open up the space. Also, got all new cabinets, countertops, appliances and flooring. They were able to stay within our budget, and they were extremely professional and organized. We would highly recommend Red House Remodeling!

I've had the pleasure of working with Ben at Red Door (Case) a number of times over the last 2 years. From a complete Master Bathroom remodel, Intermediate roof and siding work, to small cosmetic drywall repair. The Red door team has been exceptionally professional, timely and tidy in all the work that they have done. Providing accurate project plans, work documentation, and honest and reasonable billing. I can't recommend this team enough. I'm happy to be a referral to anyone looking to get quality work from a professional local company.

Red House Remodeling made our master bath remodel as smooth and easy as a home remodel can be. We have had a lot of other work done in our house with different remodeling companies and by far, RHR was the best. They are professional, courteous, and nice to work with. They covered our hard wood floors and carpet in the 'path of most use' to protect and keep it clean. They vacuumed at least weekly and often more than that to keep the dust and debris at a minimum. The process from start to finished was smooth.
Our designer, Jenna, was fabulous to work with. She drew up designs, changed them to get exactly what we wanted, shopped with us, made recommendations when asked, otherwise, she let us pick out what we wanted and had suggestions with good reasons behind them if she felt like we were ever off track. Ben was professional, easy to work with and ultra organized. He gave us a full schedule at the start of the project so we knew exactly what to expect every day. It was never deviated from! We also loved that he did not start the project until all of the parts that were ordered had come in. That way there was no lag time from demo to rebuilding.
We just can't say enough good things about RHR, their team and the finished project. We would definitely recommend them and use them in the future. They do not disappoint! -
We met Ben Trannel at the 2016 Home and Garden Show.He was one of 5 estimates that we had done. When we met Ben personally at our house, he answered all of our questions fully and honestly. We received his estimate and he answered any other questions we had. Out of all of the estimates, we were most comfortable with Red House Remodeling. We then sat down with Ben and his top designer, Jenna, to begin the design process. We had several other meetings to pick out all of the materials for the remodeling project. We signed a contract with Ben and it included the preparation, the demolition, the full kitchen/living room project, and the clean up. We also had a weekly schedule so we knew what and when the work would be done. His employees were fantastic and he had great subcontractors. The project was completed on time. Red House Remodeling is a great company and we plan to use them again.

Our experience with the staff at Red House Remodeling has been extremely positive. They were very responsive to our wants and requests, and extremely courteous and professional...from the workers to Ben and Jenna. We'd originally met with three different firms, and after a month long process, we chose Red House. Our project involved taking down a wall, expanding and redesigning the kitchen to better fit our wants, windows, patio door, and flooring for the first floor. Throughout the design process, we worked with Jenna and found her input and expertise IMMEASURABLE. Once the construction phase started, we worked more with Troy, Chris, and Ben. The project was rather extensive, the timeline long, and we're glad we chose Red House Remodeling as our contractor, and would do so again in the future for other projects.

My wife and I have worked with several contractors over the past three years to remodel and refurbish the interior and exterior of our house. We’ve been fortunate in our choices of service providers and are pleased with most everyone we’ve worked with. But without doubt, one of our very best choices was Red House Remodeling who helped us plan and remodel most of our first floor.
The kitchen and dining room was our biggest project, and thanks to Red House was an absolute success. The process they follow in presenting design options and planning every detail virtually guarantees the outcome. We spent a good deal of time upfront working with Jenna, one of the staff interior designers who walked us through several design options and then through every choice of products and materials for the project—from cabinets and counters to fixtures and switch plates. Not only did Jenna help us consider details we’d have never thought of on our own, she also offered great advice that helped cut through the overwhelming number of options to make choices that worked well together. Ben and Jenna then worked with us to wrangle the whole project down to the most important features and options at a price with which we were satisfied.
With a complete schedule and set of plans that covered all the structural, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and finish work details, Ben and his crew put it all in motion and transformed a run-of-the-mill kitchen and dining room layout into just the functional space we were looking for. Ben brought in a structural engineer to verify all the needed underlying changes to ensure the job came off without a hitch—and that’s just what happened. We knew just what had to be done from the start; no mid-project surprises or compromises.
We were impressed not only with Ben’s crew, but also with the great subcontractors they work with. And we appreciated Ben’s active management style and oversight of the work. We always knew where the project was at and what came next. I was especially grateful for all the precautions taken for dust control and the effort made to keep the area clean throughout the construction.
In the end we have a gorgeous kitchen/dining room finished on time and on budget—and most importantly, no complaints! Following the kitchen, we worked with Red House to remodel our living room, too, with similarly fantastic results. Throughout both projects and since completion, Ben and company have been very responsive and accommodating. We’ll be taking on the second floor in a few years, and there’s no doubt who we’ll call. -
We have used Red House Remodeling for two major projects on our home – upstairs hall bathroom and our kitchen and dining room. The projects were about 3 years apart and we came back to Red House for the more extensive kitchen and dining room project after the success of the upstairs hall bathroom. Ben is very organized in assessing the project and communicating the details. He also provides realistic expectations and guidance on the project to stay on budget and achieve our remodeling goals. The Red House team has a dedicated designer to help you with your project and picking out all the elements – floors, cabinets, counters, fixtures, etc. Our designer on both projects – Jenna – spent time with us at our home, at their office, and at various stores reviewing options and discussing pros and cons. She was very helpful in getting us the overall look we wanted in both cases and offered her opinions. She was also patient throughout the design process, allowing us to discuss and consider multiple options. One thing I especially appreciated is their recommendation that new elements can blend well with existing ones (like our new wood floors blending with our oak trim). Once all the details were settled and demolition began, Ben provided a detailed schedule for the project and stayed on schedule and communicated any major changes to that. With the bathroom remodel, the plumber accidentally damaged the new floor and Ben made sure this was replaced at no charge to us and tried to keep the schedule interruption to a minimum. With the kitchen remodel, we really had no major delays or issues come up. Ben and crew were very helpful in making sure our old cabinets could be salvaged for Habitat for Humanity Restore – which is a great way to keep used items out of the landfills and help low income homeowners looking to remodel. This also eliminated our need to have a dumpster in our driveway for the duration of the project. Ben’s crew and subcontractors were polite and generally very tidy in their construction process and accommodating to our requests through the kitchen remodel. Ben even delayed the demolition of our dining room at our request so we could have a bit more room for a couple extra weeks. Overall, we have had two great experiences with the Red House Remodeling team – from the initial consultation, thorough and dedicated design process, organized and timely demolition and construction, and follow up on the checklist of wrap up items – the team does an excellent job for their clients. We have plans to use them again in the future.

We worked with Red House Remodeling for a kitchen remodel and updating our laundry room. The kitchen remodel involved removing a wall in our home and expanding our kitchen by several feet and updating our fire place. We updated flooring through a large part of our first floor. We also updated cabinets and flooring in our laundry room and removed cabinets to do hanging rods so we could air dry more clothing. I would highly recommended Red House. I was incredibly impressed with the way their organized our project and waiting to begin the project until all materials were in hand. I loved their designer who helped us make choices within our budget and to fit our design desire. I appreciated their calendaring system where I knew who would be in our home each day and what they would be working on. They were incredibly clean and meticulous in their work. The finished our project right on their projected time frame. They did whatever they could to minimize any living impact due to work being done. We did not have one single surprise through the project. They were excellent communicators and I always felt listened to from the very beginning to the very end. There is no question we would select them again for our next project and highly recommend them for any project you are considering.

My husband and I recently had the outside of our home, updated. New siding, paint, windows, the whole shebang!
Ben and his crew were amazing. From the process of picking out siding, paint colors and ordering new garage doors, the final product is absolutely what I envisioned! We’ve used Redhouse remodeling in the past for our basement and know the type of work ethic Ben and his team have. We would recommend them hands-down for any type of home remodeling/renovation that you might have!

Working with Roni was a dream! She was so knowledgeable and helpful in making my vision a reality. She was extremely schedule-focused and responsive throughout the project. The contractors she brought in did amazing work, and we were thrilled with the results of our bathroom remodel. Most significantly, because of her honesty and integrity I knew that the project would be done well and that our best interests were at the forefront. We will definitely hire them for future projects!

The bathroom was an entire gut job! Plus the carpet was removed from the master closet to be replaced with the same tile as the bathroom. What was once a cramped shower, tiny sink area, a huge soaker tub, and no storage was transformed. Now it is a huge (tub was not replaced), comfy and yet, elegant and spa-like master bath. The closet got a new storage area and a linen closet replaced the small shower.
The contractors were organized and efficient. They knew what was expected of them and completed the work on schedule. We were made aware of who was coming and when on a daily basis. The craft work is impeccable and clean.
We highly recommend Idahome Dream Builders for a remodel! -
I highly recommend Idahome Dream Builders. Roni and her whole team are professional and a pleasure to work with. We looked for a long time and are so glad that we found them. Our project was a large one and we are so very happy with the results!!

Idahome Dream Builders remodeled my Master and Guest baths, and updated my laundry room. It was such a pleasure working with Roni and Ben Kalkman. They are very professional, knowledgeable, and gave me a very detailed bid so that I knew exactly how much everything cost. In addition, they provided a detailed schedule, answered all my questions, and came in on budget. They even helped me with designs.
Their trades/subcontractors were top-notch. Very professional, courteous, did a great job, and cleaned up after their work. I felt comfortable leaving my house for appointments while they were working.
Communication is key, and Roni let me know what trade was coming each day, and at what time. I felt comfortable emailing her with any questions I had.
Ben is very skilled in construction, ensured my floors were protected, and performed the demo in a careful and clean manner. Ben also built a frame for my existing large mirror, replaced and fixed baseboards, rehung doors, replaced door weather stripping, hung towel bars and mirrors, and even restarted my fireplace which was not part of the job.
I would highly recommend Idahome Dream Builders for any remodel job. I am so happy and excited about the results of my remodel. I enjoyed working with them. -
Working with Roni, Ben, Idahome Dream Builders, and Cutting Edge Kitchens and all of their subcontractors was a joy! First of all, finding someone in the Treasure Valley who is willing to work on an old house is a triumph in and of itself. We made so many calls and talked to so many people about major renovations on our 1959 ranch home and continually got ghosted. I was almost out of hope when I called Idahome and started my process with Roni. Immediately, she was a fantastic partner and invested in our project. Roni and Ben know so much about construction and remodeling and were able to problem solve every bump in the road throughout our process. The group of employees and subcontractors that Roni and Ben have built relationships with were all reliable, quality, trustworthy workers. On top of mind as really standout subcontractors were Miguel (electrician), Jhonny (refinishing wood floors), David (dry wall/texture), and Justin (paint)!
Our project was quite comprehensive and included completely gutting our existing kitchen, taking down walls, refinishing all the hardwood floors, new windows and doors, retexturing and painting the walls, major electrical updates, new cabinets, new counters, and all the small things in between. The construction process went surprisingly smoothly and Roni kept me up to date on any changes to cost and the schedule throughout. As with any project, there were bumps in the road, however, Roni and Ben stayed calm and focused and problem solved immediately any issues that arose.
Living through a major home renovation is not easy. Roni and Ben were empathetic throughout the process and kept everything streamlined and moving along. Having your home torn apart is somewhat terrifying, but because of my trust and relationship with Roni I knew that we were in good hands.
There are not enough good things I can say about working with Idahome Dream Builders! I would recommend them to anyone for a project large or small. Anyone considering a renovation should know they would be in experienced, honest, quality, and trustworthy hands working with Roni and Ben. I can’t thank them enough for making our home a real dream for us. Thanks! -
Roni and Doug were great to work with every step of the way. Project was on time and on budget! Would highly recommend and work with them again.

We completely remodeled our home in 4 1/2 months with Roni and Ben’s - Idahome Dream Builders help. This was a major project which included moving stairs, moving the kitchen and 2 bathrooms. Only 1 room in a 3000+ sq foot house wasn’t effective. All of the wiring and plumbing was redone and HVAC vents were moved. This was not your typical remodel/update.
All of IDB’s employees and subcontractors are fantastic.
The entire house turned out beautiful and we recommend IDB’s 100%. -
Roni did a great job walking us through the remodeling process. She explained to us the pros and cons of different material choices. She also gave us a very detailed list of expenses on our wish list before we started so we could more easily decide what was in our budget and timeline.
