The employees of Best Choice Home Remodeling were all easy to work with and happy in their work. Their individual work ethics and pride of workmanship resulted in a very satisfying experience and job.

Deven Cervantes was easy to work with in the planning stage. Robert Cisneros and his crew including Albert, Carlos and Lair, built me this beautiful deck including the handcrafted bench. Thank you, gentlemen.

I would highly recommend Best Choice remodeling. They did a great job on the house. We received the coating on the entire house. Devan and Robert were wonderful, if I had any questions they answered all of them. I don’t know the guys name that did the work but did a great job!!! Very happy with their work!

Best Choice handled the installation of our new windows and patio door quickly and professionally. They were timely and clean, and finished the job within the day. We currently don’t have any renovations in mind, but if we did we certainly consider Best Choice first.

We had a new glass door installed in our kitchen. From sales with Kevin, to onboarding with Trisha, to the final installation with Francisco was awesome! Everyone was super responsive, helpful and kind. Will absolutely hire them again for new windows and doors in the future.

The paint on the wood trim on our house was peeling and there was some termite damage also. One of the early estimates was given by Devin from Best Choice Home Remodeling. He gave a detailed estimate for the painting and replacing our badly cracked concrete patio. It wasn’t the lowest bid but it wasn’t the highest either. We told him we would think about it and get back later. Devin said that was fine and the estimate would be good for a while. After a few more bids, we decided to go with Best Choice.
The work crews arrived when they promised and they did high quality work. These guys worked hard and had the job done in no time. We feel we received excellent value for the job and we’re already thinking of new projects for them (as soon as we save more $).

We are very pleased with the exterior work primer and paint, and dry-rot wood repair in numerous places. The workers were very meticulous to all details of the job. They did a beautiful job and we're so pleased with the outcome. We would definitely recommend Best Choice Home Remodeling.

Communication was absolutely excellent. They got us scheduled to get our roof replaced quickly, efficiently took down our solar panels, tore off the old roof, put the new roof on, and reinstalled the solar panels in 3.5 days. The last half day was a walk through to check out the work. The team was very efficient, clean, respectful, and smiling any time I saw them. The before photos have the gray roof, the after has the brown roof.

Best Choice Home Remodeling is my go-to company for any home renovation or remodeling project. I have been using them since 2010, and I have never once regretted it.
They employ a professional, reliable crew who show up on time and stay committed until the project is fully completed. The quality of their work is outstanding. I highly recommend them without hesitation.

The 4-star rating is the average of Best Choice (5 stars) and the sub-contractor (3 stars) which is a generous rating for the sub.
Would I recommend Best Choice – Yes, but would caution how much you, as the homeowner, should monitor how the work is progressing.
It may be a good idea to take notes (on paper) during the walk around. For instance, front door was to be refinished to near new condition. Both French doors and garage doors were not to be painted. French doors were not painted but garage doors were. The garage doors are barely a year old and have a powder coated enamel finish. Will the house paint stick to metal doors as well as the factory paint? (Photo 1) The front door had some hairline cracks, a few scrapes, and three screw holes that needed to be filled and sanded prior to being painted. (Photo 2) The sub applied a little sealer and barely sanded the sealer before the door was painted. Not the most professional job. I also had to ask the sub to seal over the screws that they countersunk into the handrails on the steps outside. (Photo 3) Speaking of the steps, one post was rotted and needed replaced. I asked the sub how much additional it would cost to replace the post? The sub quoted $950, so I replaced it myself for $10.88 (6-foot of treated 4 x 4 and a 50 lb bag of concrete) and an hour worth of my time. (Photo 4) The sub said that he would not spray a coat of paint on my spa even though they painted the spa steps and railing. He did provide enough gray paint for me to paint it myself. (Photos 5&6) Considering the cost of the re-model was $49K, an extra 10 to 15-min to spray the spa, did not seem to me as an unreasonable request.
Other objections I had with the sub. I have four bulkhead lights on the patio cover above my spa. Three of the four electrical boxes were broken which required replacement. (Photo 7)
Both A/C units outside were covered with a drop cloth. The proper thing to do before painting, but I should have been informed to shut off both A/C units to prevent either unit from starting while covered.
The house remodel was started a week ahead of schedule. This might sound like a good thing except that the Quality Control Field Manager (Chris Hafer) was not informed. This may have been an intentional move by the sub because anyone who has had to deal with Quality Control knows how frustrating QC can be. But that’s the point. QC’s job is to ensure things are done correctly.
On July 1 the foreman (Gustavo) called me and asked if it was OK for his workers to work the 4th of July weekend. Here lies the problem. Neither worker spoke English and Gustavo took the weekend off. He is the foreman and should have been supervising.
Another problem with the sub was partially my fault. The workers chipped loose stucco off a retaining wall, so I said just go ahead and dump it in my utility trailer. Maybe 30-40 lbs. Turned out to be more like 300-400 lbs. They also decided my trailer was Carte Blanche to dump all waste materials such as rotted lumber, damaged fascia, empty paint cans, and any other scraps that needed disposed of.
After Gustavo informed Best Choice that they were done, Chris Hafer (QC Manager) came out for a final inspection. We talked about the finished job and my feelings regarding work performed by the sub. Chris felt that it was the sub’s responsibility to take my trailer to a waste disposal facility to empty. Chris volunteered to tow the trailer to the dump site himself. Since I felt it was my fault for allowing the sub to use my trailer in the first place, I rode with Chris to help unload.
Although I had very little interfacing with Best Choice, it was Chris that swayed me into believing that Best Choice is really striving to be a five-star company. Guess it depends on what sub-contractor is assigned to the job. I do not recommend Gustavo as he is not very professional. The overall work done by the sub-contractor was very good but lacking in areas as noted earlier in this review. (Photos 8-11)

The whole process was easy. Kevin the consultant gave us a lot of ideas and a great price on window replacement. The install team led by Francisco was great. Very efficient. Excellent communication and follow-up.

We had an absolutely FANTASTIC experience with Helton Enterprises and would recommend them to anyone. The company is run by Alex Helton, who cares deeply about his craftsmanship and the satisfaction of his customers. We did a kitchen renovation in our 1920's bungalow house with Alex in February of this year, and it was a positive experience from the get-go. I called several of his references from prior jobs before committing to his company, and after hearing all the glowing things prior customers had to say, we decided to move forward. One of my favorite things about the experience is that he uses a project management tool called Co-Construct which centralizes project timelines, costs, change orders, communications, photos and more via an app / web application that can be accessed by the homeowners and Alex both. It made it easy to communicate and see total costs. Alex personally handled most of the construction himself or with a small crew of specialists that worked for his company or others - sometimes he subcontracted work that was out of his area of specialty, but always found the best in those trades. His prices were very fair, and like any construction project things didn't always go according to plan or timelines, but he always strove to make things right or proactively communicate when problems arose. We would use him again in a heartbeat. Book him well in advance, his services are in high demand. Our kitchen renovation was completed 6 months ago and we're incredibly happy with the quality of the work still - Alex doesn't cut corners. Thank you, Alex for such a good experience!

I would happily recommend the wonderful workmanship of Helton Enterprises. It was our first time using a contractor for any renovations and we couldn’t be happier to work with a team that is truly reliable and professional. Working with someone we trusted reduced the anxiety that is sometimes associated with contractors. Having someone with such a wide range of experience in home renovations overcame our lack of experience and allowed my wife and I to effectively collaborate on the projects.
Our two occasions working with Helton Enterprises was on our previous home built in 1898, close to Five Points by the un-Safeway, and our current home, in Berkeley, built in 1936. Due to the ages of the homes, creative solutions and attention to details were necessary to get the job done right. It included completely replacing the original hardwood floors that had no sub-floor, new base boards, new front door, rebuilding of stairs, and a nearly full remodel of the kitchen.
Once we have the funds/ambition to do more remodeling, we’ll definitely be using Helton Enterprises.

I highly recommend Helton Enterprises. I needed a contractor to help design a basement remodel. It was the first time I used a company by searching Nextdoor Berkeley, and I am pleased. I have an older house (built in 1923) and with that comes some challenges. Alex is very easy to work with and also had great ideas.
We decided to do some custom cabinets along with the re-doing electrical, drywall, doors, trim and carpeting. I could tell that Alex and his team cared about doing things well. The cabinets are beautiful and I love my new space. I will definitely call Helton Enterprises again for any future projects.

I called three times throughout one week asking for an estimate. Even after sharing pictures, never got a call back.

Convenient "one call" business. They are thorough and hard-working, and they get the job(s) done. Definitely recommend!

I have used them twice, & both times I was very impressed with their work. They can do just about any job. I would definitely use them again.
